Watched "Senna" and have gone though most of "Formula 1: drive to survive" and I am not an F1 fan.

Of course after enjoying the shows I am now wondering why the hell I am not an F1 fan.

I’m finishing up Formula 1 now. It’s very well done. I’ve always been a fan of cars and racing but Formula 1 seemed too predetermined and boring.

After watching the series I get it. There are interesting story lines with drivers, teams, engines, etc. but like any sport you have to dive into the details to appreciate it. Every race affects those, especially the first turn apparently.

I’ll be watching F1 more and pay more attention to what’s happening beyond Hamilton and Vettel. Seems much more interesting.

  2. Saw this originally in the theater and was disappointed.  I thought the taking care of the girl angle was boring and moved too far away from the original.

But I caught it today on cable and I've changed my mind. The kid really didn't take too much away from the overall story.  If you watch it as a standalone it's a pretty fucking good movie.  Yeah the ending has issues, but from beginning to end it would be considered very good if not compared to the original.

The part where BdT signed with the farmer hit me in the feels.

  3. Thanks for the heads up.  If it's even brushing against the greatness that was Banshee it will be must see TV.   My god, the talent level in that show was off the charts, so I Googled "Banshee sex scenes" to add a link, and ....  the top ten were all porn sites.  You have been warned.

Therefore I present the best fight scenes:

  4. The MBA, like any other post grad degree, assists in your career path.  Of course an exceptional employee with exceptional work ethic can, and should, be elevated above someone that has a post grad degree.  However most of the corporate world is controlled by something called a Human Resources Department.  They like higher education.

  5. Travelling through any high traffic airport,  it's a lifeline if you're running late.  I'll use TSA 9O% of the time, but if the the line is too long I'll jump over to Clear.  There's always a bored Clear employee waiting to help get you scanned and usher you to the front of the line.  You don't even have to show your ID or boarding pass again, it's just a "Hey, he's with me" and boom, you're in.  If you travel alot $15/month is cheap insurance to get in fast when necessary.

  6. I watched the first season. It's confusing unless you know the source material. I didn't.  Premise is a war between the old gods - God, Fertillity Goddess, Leprechaun, yes, a fucking Leprechaun, etc, vs the new gods - Television, Technology, etc.  The main character is a go between involved in this war but I couldn't figure out what the hell his purpose was, other than being beaten or beating the shit out of others.   It's bizarre and well done and confusing but I'm all in for Season 2.  If nothing else for Swearengen as God.

Unless I’m blind, didn’t see Death Be Not Proud listed, one of my favorites and still sticks with me today.  Death to Richie, Gargoyles, Born Innocent, Dont be afraid of the Dark are just a few I remember as well.

Wow, I forgot about that.  Scared the shit out of me.  Quick Google search shows that Scott Glenn was in it.

  8. That fucking Cotton Bowl.  Muffed punt, no words.

But I was really pissed about the GA TD run - I think it was 4th down - the TX outside linebacker responsible for contain was ankle tackled by an interior GA lineman.  I know because I had a Beta Max tape of the game replayed it over and over. I SEEN'T IT.

At the time it was kind of like, damn that sucks, but time to move on.  Nebraska was unstoppable, number 1, no chance to jump them playing some weird team from Miami?

Yeah, then the Orange Bowl happened.

At the time my UTEP brother told me TX didn't deserve to be National Champs anyway, since TX was #2 and played like #2 in the game. I told him to fuck off.

It's always a good feel getting car parts back. Sadly it was short lived as the geometry didn't work. Waiting on a new pump with correct pulley. Then I'll ship mine back.

How did that happen, didn't you have the original rebuilt?

Also is orange the go to Mopar block color, like Ford's blue?

After 5 months of waiting my gearbox and power steering pump have been reworked. Finding a hemi powersteering pulley was a task but internet wins again. Had the metering valve in the steering box redone to drive more like a modern car.

Wow, 5 months. They look good.   Did you feel like a kid at Christmas when they came back?   Well I do right now, just got all my power steering parts back from the rebuilder.  I even ripped open the boxes to get at them.   Happy days.

  11. yes to above.  I always really liked the whole ending :

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown the dream is gone
    I have become comfortably numb

I've seriously considered taking the plunge in recent months, but it's obviously a major investment/commitment and I don't have (m)any firsthand resources.  My current employer only offers relationships with for-profit institutions, so part-time and 100% out-of-pocket is my likely path forward.  But how beneficial is the curriculum, and is it more than a checkbox for advancement?  Does it truly open doors, or is my resume just a bit shinier when I'm self-marketing?

I have an engineer inlaw at Boeing that is doing the part time MBA right now.  He said it was necessary to give him the opportunity to move up, or move around, the company.   He said they were assisting financially, but can't recall the percentage.

I bolded the part that seems very odd.  Why is that?  Seems as if your current employer actually cared about your education, and the benefit you might bring to the company in the future, they wouldn't care.  Hell, they'd probably even give preferential treatment to non-profit.

I would get it.  It's not the curriculum that will necessarily help - though depending on your profs, could - but more for HR departments.  Many jobs have a check box for post grad studies, and doing it part time, while working, shows you're serious about your career.  You obviously don't want to get ceilinged at a relatively young age, so get it and open up whatever possibilities that might exist.

  13. Biden is absolutely running.  Can't remember the title of the book I read about the '88 election, but for some odd reason I specifically remember a quote by Biden.  He was moaning about his blue collar background,  how he thought it was holding him back from getting the right donors,  catching on with the right message, etc.

"There's a river of power that runs this country, and that river runs right through the Ivy League."

Dude is from Scranton and has a chip on his shoulder.  Yeah, he's running and looking forward to a fight with Trump if he can get past the primaries.

  14. Me and a buddy wasted time at work today sending each other old TV show clips, laughing our asses off.  We only scratched the surface so I thought a thread would bring out the good stuff.

I game him Mannix and he countered with "Dan August".  Never saw that show, only on one year, a rare Quinn Martin miss.
