Bomani is from Texas, right? Over the last few years I noticed, via Twitter, that he always paid close attention to Texas on Saturdays.  He was really invested in Charlie and wanted him to succeed.

He's from Waller, TX. His parents were/are profs at Prairie View A&M.

There's been people ranting about no "instant impact players".

Yet, now your argument is "wait and see" because a player is now being projected as a potential impact player in year 1.

    Hilarious.

When you can argue both sides you're never wrong.

James Banks also made the USA U-18 team, one that was better than this one. If you ever actually gave a single fuck about UT basketball, and made that your focus instead of obsessing over arguing with everyone over everything we would all appreciate it. This combination of hyper-Pollyannaism and hyper aggression is incredibly annoying for everyone else here.

Someone on another board made this point and a person well versed in recruiting pointed out that year's group of guys who tried out lacked bigs so according to him James making it wasn't exactly a big accomplishment.

  4. For what it's worth, I enjoy Lebron's style of over Jordan's. Of course I was a Magic guy during the early part of the Jordan era so my natural inclination is to prefer those sorts of players over the Jordan/Kobe/Domonique nothing but buckets style of domination. Too bad Lebron wants to be the GM and the coach too. He'd do well in a Philadelphia, Golden St, or even mid 00s Phoenix Suns style of play. And I'm pretty certain David Blatt would've eventually worked towards that style of play if he were given the authority to do what he wanted. I would've liked to see Lebron play for a coach he respected to see what sorts of heights he would've reached. His current mode of having to be the conductor of every aspect of any org he joins is stifling his greatness.

I don't see a clear 2nd tier.  I just see Kansas and then the rest.  Maybe OU will be terrible so in their own 4th tier, but I'm not sure WV and K St are clearly better than Baylor, Tech and UT at this point.   Need to see the new faces and how teams look.

K St pretty much has everyone back. If they’re not on KU’s tier they’re a tier below it all by themselves.

For me it's always been the way MJ took his level to another stratosphere in the Finals. He averaged 41ppg, 8.3rpg, 6.5astts in the 1993 Finals and his only finals under 30ppg was in 1995/96. Other than that he was routinely in the 30's with 35ppg against the Blazers. Where as LBJ has had like two finals over 30, One Finals with the Heat he averaged 17ppg and on here he some act like he is dragging wheelchair bball players around.

MJ is supposedly to have better "teams" yet always was dropping high averages when it mattered most in the Finals. LBJ hasn't always done that.

Jordan supposedly had better teams yet no teammate on those teams other than Pippen averaged more than 8ppg during those Finals/playoffs.

You do realize LBJ is the same size as both Oak and Mase?    They wouldn't just be wailing on LBJ without taking some punishment of their own and after a while they would think twice about hitting him.

LBJ wouldn't be near as big as he is if he was born 20 years earlier and I imagine Oak and Mase would've been different players if they were born 20 years later.  I really don't understand the purpose of making discussion points like the one above.  None of us know what these players would've done in different eras and the idea that Lebron becomes the player he his without some evolution of the game taking place (something Jordan clearly contributed to)  is ridiculous. They all step on the ladders the players before them built to become the players they are.  Greatness is determined by how you fair against your contemporaries,  not by what you "would've" done if you were somehow magically transported to a different era.

This is where I disagree. Jordan had his WTF games too. A few examples. Jordan's game 3 vs the 87 Celts he played exactly like James Harden going 9 for 30. Everyone remembers the 63 game in 86 but forgot about the 18 or 19 game right after that. 10-29 Harden game vs the Pistons. When they had the Pistons on the ropes 2-1 in 89 with the chance to go up 3-1 Jordan came out and had a 5-15 stinker. Game 5 they were tied 2-2 with a chance to get control of the series Jordan went a mysterious 4-8 from the field. That series spawned a book.

It's funny how we block out any subpar games Jordan ever had, while simultaneously punishing James for it. All the early exits in the playoff. The James Harden "gunner" moments where he shot his team out of games. The fact that they did lose to Shaq and Penny. All erased out of the history books. To be honest, all of those years Jordan was pretty lost until Jackson came along. However, we will never give Jackson any credit for that at all.

You might want to scroll up to the post where I mentioned the number of subpar playoff games for both Jordan & Lebron.

To once again sum up the totals

Lebron: # of playoff gms with 15 or fewer points = 12

Jordan: # of playoff gms with 15 or fewer points = 1

Lebron: # of playoff gms with 20 or fewer points = 31

Jordan: # of playoff gms with 20 or fewer points = 8

And that's why I say you have to look at his whole body of work. There have been playoff games, where he didn't show up or shut it down(quit) when he got discouraged. How can you claim to be the greatest at anything when you will quit on the game/your team?

And mark my words, it will definitely happen again. Maybe in the current finals.

And while the final run is impressive, he still has a losing record. That matters, too.

And name all the formidable teams from the East that LeBron has faced in his finals run. Boston's Big 3 and who else? Indy?(lmao).

Given the video currently going around showing the end of regulation in game 1, some would argue he essentially quit there before OT. I think he scored maybe 1 basket in all of OT. Now I dont begrudge him a completely human reaction to an indefensible blunder by a teammate,  but as a person who watched Jordan I'm not sure Jordan would allow himself that human reaction when the game was still in doubt.

Pts are the only thing that matter?   Especially considering that scoring isn't LBJ's best skill its kinda silly to use that as the only criteria.   I'm betting you could probably do that same post for rebs and asts and show the opposite.

There are far too many instances of the 2011 finals where Lebeon not only doesn't score but he didnt impact playoff games at all.  In the 2011 finals he scored something ridiculous like 11 total 4th qtr points in the six 4th qtrs combined.  He had a similar wtf performance in the last game of the 2010 eastern conference finals as well.  Admittedly he seems to have gotten over this failing of late,  but this isn't a shallow criticism under the guise of diminishing Lebron. One could argue that his highs actually surpass Jordan with the way he stuffs nearly every category of the game,  but  there's no doubt that Lebron has several examples where you're left wondering what's wrong with him.

  11. For me it's a matter of highs vs the lows.  MJ & Lebron have similar highs,  however Lebron's lows are too frequent and far too low to matchup positively against Jordan.  Jordan had 1 playoff gm of 15 or fewer points, conversely Lebron has 12. Jordan had playoff 8 gms of 20 or fewer and Lebron has 31.

I always preach this, because fans usually expect shooters to be ready day one despite what history tells us. I remember cautioning people in recent years who expected guys like Young and Febres to come in and be shooters right away. I remember going back 20-25 years to find every freshman we’ve had who could shoot and the list was like Booby, AJ, and DJ; that was it. And it’s not even about their shooting talent, it’s about the many vast differences from HS ball to college ball, from work rate, your role on a team, the age and size of the defenders who guard you, the more complex offensive systems, all of it. Shooting with consistency almost always takes a while for freshmen.

@Bitterwhiteguy posted a fairly exhaustive study a few months ago on Barking Carnival about how outside of a few instances (and these guys get drafted by their sophomore years) elite shooting comes from upperclassmen (with the overwhelming plurality coming from seniors). I’ll post a link to the article again, but it was informative stuff.

  13. Is Osetkowski even going to be able to run down the court this year? He gained like 25 pounds during the season. I can’t imagine the amount of weight that fucker gains when he isn’t running up and down a court every day. He’s probably 340 right now.
For what it's worth, it looks like he's lost a bunch of weight judging from his Instagram. Hopefully he's able to maintain the weight loss.
  14. We've always had elite defensive rim protectors and usually good big man depth. We'll have neither next year. A fairly significant drop off should be expected.  Go look at Shaka's history. He's had some bad defensive teams. It's not a lock we'll be good on defense next year by any means.
What good bigman depth did we have in Shaka's first year? (Or 2nd year for that matter?) Our best bigman missed 20+ games and Ibeh, Lammert, and Cleare made up the rest of that "depth"

How does someone see a random tweet from a random account criticizing players for the sixers and think “hmm I bet that’s Bryan colangelo”..

I imagine if you're a Sixers fan you follow the beat writers and would notice a couple tweets from the same always backing Colangelo. It's the same way we get accustomed to posters personalities on here and can quickly identify a sock 9 times out of 10.

Love being out is advantage Cleveland. They can run now.

Love is the best outlet passer in the NBA. The fact that they don't run with Love in there is on their dumbass coach.

  17. Not sure if this was mentioned on the Shaggy version of this thread, but I didn't see it mentioned here. Slow Burn is great. It's about all the ancillary stories of Watergate that were probably hot topics of discussion at the time, but ultimately lost to history. For people like me who didn't live through Watergate it was entertaining and informative. The Martha Mitchell story was especially wild ass.

I'm becoming more intrigued by Porter Jr. I like all the guys on your list, but a guy with Porter's size and offensive skill seems invaluable.

I’m worried Porter will become this generations Carmelo Anthony. He displayed less of an inclination to pass than the college version of Carmelo and he was a contested jumper monster. Dude had like 1 assist in 50 shot attempts during his 2.25 games in college.

I liked Season 2.  But, it has its detractors.  Think it gets better the second time thru-

I agree about season 2. I think detractors of season 2 tend to be people who only watched the show once through. Upon first watching the show, season 2 sits in stark contrast to not only season 1, but to what people presume the show is about. I think this dynamic is what causes people to be critical of season 2. After you've viewed the entire saga a couple times, season 2 helps to bring all the components of the show into the perspective.

Could be, but not sure. There's recent pictures on instagram with his hair long like that. These are all from early to mid May. They're either posting a lot of old pictures or his hair has been like that recently.

Not to be argumentative, but this is from 4 days ago and I saw him talking about getting a fresh cut in an Instagram story just the other day.  Regardless he's clearly gaining his weight back and hopefully that bodes well for his overall health in the future.
