  2. For those into drought discussion (which I am, oh I guess a little bit, maybe), pretty good articles in lake Travis/Westlake Community Impact this week. I think well worth the read.

I'd have a lot more to say on the upcoming summer but I'll skip it - for now.

“Texas isn’t in a megadrought right now, but one is always possible,” he said. “Low [lake] levels will probably happen again sometime, but it depends on both the weather and on water use. There’s no telling when it will happen again.”

    Solid forecasting.

  4. Too much downforce from the ground effect seems to initiate or cause porpoising. I think Merc tried to offset that by raising the car and extending the wing to reclaim some downforce, but that resulted in too much drag.

  5. From The Athletic:

According to McCullers, doctors believed the flexor tendon injury he sustained in October would heal in time for the season. But in late January or early February, after his offseason throwing program was underway, he didn’t feel 100 percent healthy. More doctors visits and tests revealed that his tendon just hadn’t quite healed, and another round of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy followed.

    ***

McCullers said he had his PRP therapy about three weeks ago and his stem cell therapy about a week ago. Surgery has not been discussed, he said, adding the doctors he’s consulted with are confident the tendon issue will resolve itself. He also said he’s had it “confirmed about four or five times from a bunch of different doctors, including (Neal) ElAttrache” that it’s not an ulnar collateral ligament issue. ElAttrache, a renowned orthopedic surgeon based in Los Angeles, did McCullers’ Tommy John surgery in November 2018.

What's all the hubbub about the Merc sidepods?  Is it aero, cooling, or what?  Who cares what they look like?

It’s different and no one else is doing it and we don’t understand why and why didn’t we think of that so it must be cheating!

Less drag probably, maybe more downforce.  Cooling was the problem to solve with the design not the benefit.

  7. Christian Horner: "The new Mercedes violates the spirit of the regulations. For us, some parts are not legal."

I thought I read he was more innocuous with his comments. If what you’ve posted is what he actually said … what a titty baby.

Edit - this is what I saw:

Horner on Mercedes concept: “It's a fairly different concept. That's for the aero guys and engineers to get into."

"Let the guys understand it and digest it…”

More like your girlfriends face. She’s from the isle of lesbos if you were not aware. Or so my lesbian sister in law tells me.

Still would.  Repeatedly.  Well, at least like 25 years ago.  Who knows about now - she may have moved to her feathered hair driving a Subaru phase of life.

  9. Couple questions on design:

Is there a specific area the equipment needs to go? Closer to deep end? Closer to spa?

Is there a preference to having spa on deep end or on shallow?

Decking options - concrete or travertine? Those two seem to be the only ones. Am I missing anything?

Equipment should go where you can make it easy to access utilities, imo. Where does your electric and gas come into the house? Put it on that side to reduce the routing expense. And where it’s out of the way. The plumbing from the equipment gets figured out whether it’s close to spa or deep end.

We did spa near shallow. Probably doesn’t matter, but if you have kids remember you’ll want line of sight that isn’t blocked by the spa, especially into the deep end.

We did travertine coping and textured spray deck. Lots of options depending on the look you want and your budget.

  10. Diamond rio is a poor man’s restless heart

    Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts!

I like Restless Heart but you are way off base here, man.

Also, do not care for Colin Raye. Not one bit.

Steve Wariner … he sort of straddles this 90s timeframe but he kicks ass.

  11. Just heard an interesting analysis on the radio - the situation now with respect to pricing is essentially spring 2020 in reverse. Then, prices didn’t increase until the storage issue began to turn around. Now, the rapid increase will likely not abate until economies start to slow. $170-180 was the guess.

  12. It's getting close to moving beyond being a break even operation for us.  As I tell my old man, the cattle business these days is turning into an expensive hobby for family ranchers.
