You feel good about Shane and/or Sam?

I feel like we'll figure the QB spot out. I've had a hard time caring about who it specifically is that gets things done since the Simms/Applewhite experience.

My view is that Sam Ehlinger has the football smarts of an alzheimer's patient and Buechele has the physical sturdiness of a mobile home in a tornado, so I can't get too worked up about who gets it done or if it is by committee. I just feel like there's depth and therefore optionality and security.

  2. The word this summer is that the staff thinks they scored big with both recent QB signees. It doesn't sound like they prefer one over the other at this point and they want both to feel involved and embedded in the program. Given the redshirting rules, I think they're going to jump at the chance to play both of them in any sort of blowout they can find. For the first time in a very long time, I am not worried about QB heading into August.

    IT on Gbenda:

    From: Eric Nahlin

    DAVID GBENDA

The Cinco (Five) Ranch linebacker is one of the most enjoyable prospects of the cycle to talk to. He's accessible, intelligent, and enthusiastic. He's also really candid.

Normally I get off the phone with a good understanding of what's going on, but after talking to him Monday evening, not so much, and that's through no fault of his own. I feel he's still trying to figure out what's going on himself.

To backtrack: when he went on a hot run of offers in the spring (after measuring 6-foot, 212 pounds at the Houston Nike Regional), he seemingly had his pick of schools. The two he seemed to take the most shine to were Texas and then A&M.

Now when asked who is recruiting him the hardest he mentions Baylor, Ole Miss and A&M. I asked what about Texas and he responded, "them too." But I've asked him that question multiple times in the last month and he keeps leaving Texas off of his list of most aggressive suitors while repeatedly mentioning A&M.

My feeling has been, between A&M and Texas, Gbenda will pick the school putting forth the most effort. While Gbenda mentions A&M to me, I'm not sure they'd take his commitment. That benefits Texas long-term should they choose to really press for him.

He visited Austin again this past weekend for the Heat Wave pool party which is a very direct indication Texas is still interested. This particular gathering was kept relatively small by design.

Gbenda once again made the trip with his father, who has been high on Texas since their first visit for junior day. Like that junior day, Gbenda once again snuck in and snuck out.

He did attend the actual pool party. He did talk to the coaches and players, which he enjoyed, especially talking with Moro Ojomo, newest commit Peter Mpagi, and Mr. Linebacker, Gary Johnson.

Not surprisingly he talked with Coach Orlando the most of all the staffers, but Derek Warehime also spent time with him. Orlando told Gbenda they have a certain number of linebackers they want in the class, though that number was not divulged (I think that number is dependent on 'ATH' takes). Orlando also said he felt he had a clear level of Gbenda's interest given his repeated trips to campus.

I asked David if he felt Texas was pushing for him or taking their time. He replied, "a little bit of both." These topics can't get a little sensitive after that so I didn't want to dig much deeper.

He mentioned Texas sits where they always sit, "in a good spot." He would like to make an early- or mid-season announcement at the latest.

Obviously Texas is recruiting Gbenda and there is mutual interest. It would appear they'd be happy to have him but are still figuring out where they sit with the rest of their options.

I'm not sure. It seemed strange to me. There's not much film on him, so it's a little hard to tell, but I haven't seen any film of him that was all that impressive. His testing numbers aren't very good at all, and I don't think he'll provide much pass rush.

He does have some basketball clips where he shows good functional athleticism.  My guess is the staff thinks he can be a 6'4 Chris Nelson, which is a good, useful player.

Yeah, LSU lost a ton and the spots where they still have some good talent don't have depth behind that talent. If they're lucky, they could stay healthy and ahve a year like last year but if a couple injuries hit they'll be in a world of trouble. Burrow is the wild card. Without him they were going to be absolutely fucked. If it turns out that he's really good, then they'll be fine this year most likely.  Regardless, I think the mess and lack of organization/guidance from Coach O will overshadow LSU's talent.

Burrow's card isn't that wild. He's a functional QB who could potentially be a game manager. Orgeron has his grubby, filthy fingers all over everything, so whatever kind of chimeric monster he shits out from his brain and rubs all over the mediocrity that is Emsinger's game planning will be the bigger wild card than anything Burrow does. I think Burrow would be fine at a place like Bama or OSU, but if they're counting on him to win games in Baton Rouge, they should light the cigarettes now, because they're already freshly fucked.

Their's definitely some question marks.  It sounds like Tatum's issue was just a class he never took because his school admin screwed up, so I'm thinking he'll make it in. If not, that 's a huge blow because he's really underrated. He's a borderline 5 star IMO. Agree that Perkins is overrated, although I would've liked to get him last year regardless.  Idk much about Johnson. He seemed kind of overrated and a guy who struggles with weight recovering from an ACL tear is iffy, but if one of those guys turnout, plus having Tatum and Redmond (who's also weirdly overrated but still really good due to 247 making him the #16 player in teh country. WTF!), that's still a great class.  Their 2019 class isn't quite as strong so far, but that DC kid they got is good and I like Marcus Hicks a lot too.

Edit: Sejir makes a good point. Fuck OU. They suck.

You're putting a lot of faith in what the OU $9.95ers are reporting about Tatum's issue, including the ringleader, who happens to be a convicted felon. They're getting their information from Thibodeaux, who functions like a sieve to them as he knew most of them when he was a recruit and player. He's got several agendas on this one. There may or may not be a deeper issue with getting his ass into school and it's likely that the given excuse isn't the full excuse.

All kidding aside, Cine is enjoying recruiting, and as such, he's enjoying playing EJ Holland like a fucking fiddle. PSU remains number one on his list.

-Houston Madison cornerback Bobby Wolfe has a planned commitment date of June 30, which is coming up in less than two weeks.

The one-time Aggie pledge has things narrowed down to A&M and Arkansas, where he officially visited two weekends ago.

There is some optimism on the Arkansas side, but I still feel confident in my Crystal Ball prediction of Texas A&M. He made his way back up to campus midweek last week to watch camp and then ended up working out. He has bonded with the Aggie commits and current players and has been to College Station more times than I can count.

A&M is looking for its first corner in the class and I still firmly believe that will be Wolfe when he makes his choice known on the 30th. The Razorbacks made things interesting but, from talking to multiple people, I don’t believe it was enough to overtake the Aggies.

-Wolfe and Fort Bend Bush four-star cornerback Erick Young had long insisted that they would play together in college before backing off that stance a bit a month or two ago. For a while, it looked like they could go their separate ways.

However, I feel good about my Crystal Ball pick for A&M with him as well. He and Wolfe rode up to Aggieland together last week for the camp and Young is also close with a number of Aggie players and commits. The two guys recruiting him the hardest are actually a pair of 2020 pledges in Smart Chibuzo and Akinola Ogunbiyi.

Young does not want to tip his hand too much ahead of his USC visit this weekend – which will be his first-ever time in California – but says he pretty much already has his mind made up.

Young plans to announce his decision on July 4, with A&M and USC the only schools having received official visits.

-The other player I still think likely ends it soon is Katy Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound four-star defender has been saying he wants to take his official visits but most have seen him as a heavy Aggie lean for a while. He has seen a lot of his friends commit and there’s a good chance he decides to join them instead of letting this drag out.

Though it’s not a guarantee that he does so in the near future, I think it will happen. Even if he decides to wait, I still feel very comfortable with the A&M Crystal Ball pick.

-Over the weekend, one of A&M’s top commits was on an official to Alabama in Converse Judson defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal.

Leal has now visited both schools that he was strongly considering in addition to A&M so neither Alabama or Texas can get him on campus on official visits anymore.

Though it is never ideal to have a commit take other visits, Leal is not one A&M has been sweating much at all. They are not too worried about losing him and they have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to matters like that.

-Though he is not close to making a decision, A&M has made up a ton of ground with 2020 Houston Austin QB Malik Hornsby. The Aggies absolutely killed his unofficial visit last weekend.

Tim Brewster is his lead recruiter and Brewster famously landed Vince Young at Texas during his early days in the game. That’s a very good pitch with Hornsby, who is also a dual-threat with a strong arm. Jimbo Fisher made a big impact on both Hornsby and his mother, too.

A&M feels very good about where it stands at the moment with its top quarterback target in the class

There are rumors of Tim Brewster going full on Calvin Thibodeaux in the Malik Hornsby recruitment. Pray for him.

So I am going to guess that if you are privy to such information about documentary evidence of Georgia paying for players, the NCAA has similar evidence. I am assume they have 'top' men reviewing it alongside the Ark of the Covenant.

Could someone photoshop that crate with the swastika on it from Raiders of the Lost Ark to have a branded SEC logo instead?

I've only been told stories, much as the same as anyone else, and pass them on here from time to time.

The NCAA has lost the narrative at this point, and they're not capable of doing anything about institutionalized cheating across an entire region.

Others have been the ones talking about Georgia being more dirty than anyone else, but that isn't surprising.

They're basically Bama at this point in recruiting, in all ways.

Georgia is the dirtiest school in the country right now. Last cycle they were basically handing out illustrative pay charts to coaches and trainers regarding what they'd pay for UOVs, OVs, commitments, and signed LOIs. Little brother is trending there, but UGA is in a different environment than Texas, and the results for little brother won't be the same.

I will say that you guys thinking ATM won't trapdoor in-state recruits haven't checked out the burning ruins that Fisher left behind in the state of Florida at the HS level. Taggart is an animal, so he sorted it quickly, but it was more than the administration at FSU that wanted Fisher to cross the state line.

😞 Maybe now we push for Gbenda? Should have been doing so anyway

I mentioned it previously and others have as well, but it’s hard to push a kid when he doesn’t give a shit about answering calls or showing up to scheduled stuff. So shut the fuck up when you don’t know what in the fuck you are whining about in the first place.

Not sure there is a kid in this entire class who wanted to be a Longhorn more than Mpagi. Will be rooting for the kid.

I like him fine. He’s got a high ceiling, physically and he’s a good dude, by all accounts. If he’s the 28th player of a 28 person class, fucking a, man. Fucking A.

I think this one changes with every visit, and he visits three or four schools a month. This is one you watch but don't really pay attention to until the season is winding down, imo

Anyone know what false media reports he's talking about?

Look within first. If there’s nothing from our $9.95ers, then check aggie $9.95ers, and then assume he has rabbit ears and is reading boards where, on the aggie boards, they’re probably speaking definitively about “Brew’s got’em in his sights” or some shit. I doubt the smoking gun could be anywhere but three places.

Can anybody shed some light on why Ms. Knight left Bama?

I know this probably wasn’t her fault, but Bama finished with its lowest class ranking ever under Saban (and one of its lowest averages too) for 2018–the only class she helped with there. I wonder if she was pushed out of there.

I don’t know who the guy was at Bama before her, but they ended up shitcanning him or encouraging him to go elsewhere, and they asked her to fill in while she was getting ready to get married. She did fine but didn’t blow them away and they didn’t offer her a contract, and her husband had a job in or around Houston, so they moved.

There was no scandal and she was not in the role of bagperson. The skinny, goofy dude is Capone’s bookkeeper. She’s just a glad-hander. Could that change at ATM? Hell, of course, but it would be new for her.

That’s from the inner circle of the Empire.

Didn't you just jump someone's shit a few weeks ago about daring to question your perceived order  of the "shh" emojis at that particular time?

I mean, it’s on this thread if you want to go find it, and, no, I didn’t “jump someone’s shit” unless you’re some sort of emotional little girl who can’t handle it when the adults in the room use a semi-serious tone. I was as dismissive then on the thread of the total count as I am now. I made the point that Smith and Adimora were both shhh’s at various points, irrespective of how we’re actually counting.  I stand by that now. But as to how many and what not, like I said, I am not really sure Carrington is paying that much attention to whether he’s got it all covered.

If Leal and NaNa were Horns right now, would be pursuing Mpagi? At some point in the fall, quite possible. In June? Probably not.

NOM has questions around him. Texas wanted him, but he wasn't separated from the pack the way some folks seem to believe. He was making an early decision, and he was good enough to lay it all out for, but he wasn't choice A while Mpagi is choice F. Recruits are always rising and falling in America.
