  1. that one was a bargain of a deal for the Canes. the Miller trade and extension - not so much. Don't get me wrong, I've been high on the kid dating back to his time with the Badgers, that said a first (late as it may be), 2nd, and Morrow is A LOT to give up though.
  2. yeah that's flat out sus as hell. I'm legitimately shocked the league allowed it.
  3. Massive clash of egos between Tom Dundon when he bought the Canes, and the Checkers owner who had a small stake with the Canes under the Karmanos ownership group. Not sure if there was a falling out between the two before the affiliation agreement expired and Khan was doing it as a "fuck you" or if Khan was simply trying to take Dundon for whatever he thought he could since the Checkers won the Calder Cup the prior season, but the terms he was apparently asking for were richer than any other independent team in the A. Dundon ended up calling his bluff and the Canes ended up affiliating with the Chicago Wolves as a result, whose owner comes with his own level of shit show.
  4. yep, went to a few Checkers games back when they were the Canes affiliate (stupid that they're not still affiliated but that's a long story) and even comparing it to the MiLB level wouldn't be a good comparison. Even with Durham Bulls games you often got a sense with some of the guys that they were simply waiting for their callup, AHL games can be almost as big a war in the playoffs as in the show.
  5. I can't remember the last time I saw someone ejected from the final game to say whether or not he was being a punkass bitch by not coming out for the handshake line afterword, but he's also not exactly a guy I'd give the benefit of the doubt to in that regard.
  6. You could definitely interest Carolina in a lightly used Jason Robertson at least
  7. Their defense is also kinda meh, need at least one more dfd capable of top 4 minutes. But if Nashville is rebuilding they need to sell the farm for Saros.
  8. seriously that tandem may be worse than when the Flyers rolled out Leighton and Boucher in the playoffs. And that Flyers team was at least supposed to have Ray Emery as well, though his hip condition was discovered that same season.
  9. I'd say "same" on that, though I also know that my caffeine intake before an AM workout compared to before a PM workout (I typically don't drink caffeine after 3PM) also has a pretty big impact on that, so my HR doesn't get near as high even if I'm actually working in the same weight and rep range so I don't feel like I've pushed as hard and/or I get tired out quicker as a result.
  10. nice slewfoot by Marchand on that sequence, so the outcome puts a smile on my face.
  11. fuck, now that you've made me come to this realization I'm pulling for the asteroid.
  12. really thought they were going to push it to a game 6 after how things started last night. Florida is just a frigin wagon at this point. either way not bad for a re-tool season. Spend that 30M in cap space heading into next season correctly and we might actually win 2 games in the ECF or something.
  13. on one end I totally get that. On the other side of things this year was a bit of a retool to begin with so even getting to the ECF is more than most of us were expecting. The only real critique I have of this season is that they weren't able to bring in a veteran RHD for depth at the deadline. My only hope the rest of the way is breaking the 0-fucking 13 in our conference finals record since the Cup, anything beyond forcing a game 5 in this series is a bonus.
  14. yep, just a bad situation for the kid, I really don't get why they didn't run it back with Nikishin after game 5 in DC, especially if the guy they were going to put him with is the guy that's prettymuch only on the team because he can run a PP but tends to be pretty bad in his own zone.
  15. I hate throwing individual players under the bus but holy hell, Scott Morrow was Florida's best player last night. Problem is he's a defenseman on Carolina.
