When was the last time Arizona was a top 15 athletic program with a male AD? The “looking like they were right” statement is dumb as fuck considering the long list of other factors involving Arizona athletics current state.
I get their perspective was my main point.
I would be pretty apprehensive about hiring a female AD at a major program. The reality is hiring/keeping male coaches is often a boy's club. Call it sexist or whatever you want.

I don’t know that her gender has anything to do with it. There are successful female ADs in D1.
She was hired as the AD at Arizona because she has a fundraising/financial background. Maybe her mentality is burn it all down and start over?
There are?
Barbour at Penn State and Cohen at Washington are about the only two that come to mind. There isn't a top 15ish athletic program run by a woman but that's not to say a woman can't have success in that role. It would be a major anomaly though.

And their WBB coach, an alumni, allegedly has a huge offer, backed by Barkley, to go to Auburn
Arizona received a lot of criticism from their fans for hiring a female AD. It's looking like they were right. She did take over a mess though.

I wouldn't assume Lloyd is the hire but I'm willing to take it on faith that whoever the replacement is will be at least solid.
I think Lloyd is somebody you can get if you're willing to pay the buyout.
There's apparently a lot of turmoil at Arizona with their new AD. Lost Fisch to Washington, we just recently stole their women's golf coach, etc. The new AD apparently took over a major financial mess and had to make major cuts.

Oregon, Tennessee, Alabama
Assuming Lloyd is the hire our major sports (both men's and women's sports) are in a good spot. I can't think of a time when we had an elite coach in every sport.
Men's basketball: Lloyd
Football: Sark
Baseball: Schloss
Women's basketball: Schaefer
Volleyball: Elliott
Softball: White

I like Bamas trio alot
That's a good one but I bet Vaughn will be gone soon.

Would Lloyd, Sark, and Schloss give us the best trio of coaches in the major sports? I can't think of a school that even comes close.
The only school that comes to mind is Oregon with Lanning, Altman, and Wasikowski.
-
Feels like the tournament success will eventually come for Lloyd.
In 4 seasons, these were Lloyd's kenpom ranks: #14, #6, #11, and #5. So he's had a top-15ish caliber team every year as a head coach.

do I need to keep going?
Brother, you were in the women's basketball threads saying Vic was not a great hire because he could not recruit at a national championship level. Sorry if I don't take you seriously.

Every hire CDC has made outside of Sark which he technically didn’t make and RT have been top 5ish in their sports. Miller is not even top 10-15 currently in his sport
simply not true.

What a crock of shit.
Every hire CDC has made has been a home run outside of probably RT which was kind of a PR/emotional/forced hire but yeah let's judge his ability to hire coaches before we even see what that coach does at Texas.

You should really break down why those coaches were selected. Miller is not in a category with none of them. Bowman is considered the top coach in the world at his sport. Schloss was considered one of the best baseball coaches in the country and he had prior friendship with.
8 years ago Miller makes sense, now he does not.
We can debate in circles about Miller but the point is there's no way age would be a factor in hiring him.
Matter of fact, it's pretty obvious that CDC wants older coaches.

I'm firmly in the get a younger guy than Sean Miller camp. Did Wade sign his NC State contract yet?
Maybe CDC can give him something to think about.
That's not really Del Conte's hiring profile outside of maybe Beard.
Bowman, Floreal, Schloss, White, Metzger, and Schaefer were early 50s to mid 50s if not older. CDC does not seem to be someone that wants to hire young and it's worked for him so far at Texas.

god damn mcneese looks awesome. i honestly don’t see any difference in wade and miller scandal-wise other than the show-cause, and i think i speak for most of us here when i say id rather have wade than miller. i would be really interested in hearing why we won’t touch a guy like wade if we do end up hiring miller.
Because he hasn't accomplished much?
Wade has only made the 2nd weekend 1 time in his entire career. I do think Wade is a good coach though that will likely win if you give him resources.

I am indeed Sean Miller.

Mike White never went to the national title series at Oregon. He's been twice at Texas.
Joffe had a runner up finish at aggy but won 2 titles at Texas
yeah, I think Sean Miller fits the profile to a T of what Del Conte wants. So I'm not surprised his name is being thrown around.

The goal of sports is to win championships, especially at a high level like D1 basketball and NBA. Not making final 4s means you have no shot at winning championships. While it would be good for program to make elite 8s it means nothing if you can't take the next step. Might as well get the coach that you think can take you all the way.
But that's a terrible way to evaluate fit.
You can find coaches that are on the cusp of greatness that just need better resources/talent. Prime example is our track/field coach (Floreal). He had a really good program at Kentucky but just needed better resources at Texas to finally win a couple national championships.
The same is probably going to be true in softball with Mike White.

Only making it out of the first round 5 out of 12 seasons is pretty underwhelming when he was able to hand Adidas a shopping list of recruits
Kind of like he would be able to do with NIL at Texas if we prioritized it?
Texas fans would take 3 Elite 8s, 5 2nd weekend appearances, and 5 conference championships in a heartbeat. Please give us the results that Miller produced at Arizona.

I don't mean it in a bad way, just on the scale of "competent upgrade over RT who will win games" and "sexy fucking hire of a big name, like Oates or Donovan", he's in the former category. And that's fine, because Texas needs a competent upgrade.
The only coach I've seen mentioned that I view as a for sure upgrade over Sean Miller is Oates.
Donovan is probably a better coach than Miller but he also hasn't been around the college game in over a decade. I would have some apprehension with Donovan knowing how to navigate NIL and other parts of recruiting. Maybe I'm overthinking this.
I guess my biggest point is I bet people on this board would view Lloyd as a much better hire than Sean Miller which seems wild to me. Miller has accomplished much more.

I'm trying to think of a football equivalent. James Franklin? He'd win games here for sure, but would be met with a big meh.
I don't know about football but I view Sean Miller much like Rick Barnes. Based purely on resume, not style of play.
Will always have good teams but can he maximize that into final 4 caliber teams? Not sure, but I think we could do much worse. Ramping up NIL with Sean Miller seems far from a bad hire.

I think Miller is a good coach.
Xavier had not made the tournament in 4 years prior to Miller. They were dogshit. Also, Miller would be a much more sexier pick if not for devastating injuries over the last couple of years.
Last year's Xavier team was probably a 2nd weekend team if not for Freemantle's season-ending injury. This year's Xavier team would have likely been a top-25 caliber team if not for Traore's season ending injury. They've had some terrible injury luck.

He's a floor hire.
Which, if its down to keeping RT or hiring Miller, I am fine with Miller + NIL.
I just think we can do better.
Maybe but man I don't see it just as a "floor" hire.
Miller has made 4 elite 8s and the second weekend 7 times. He's more than capable of being more than a "floor" hire with talent.
-
Can somebody explain why some are so negative about Sean Miller?
The only time he's struggled is at the end of his Arizona tenure when they were in hot water with the NCAA (his doing of course). His floor is NCAA tournament caliber teams and with Arizona-type talent he can probably get you to some Elite 8s/further.
Ramp up NIL with Sean Miller seems far from a bad hire.
-
RT doesn't adjust at all.
This was a game where there was zero reason to keep playing big. 90% of Xavier's offense was on the perimeter and it's not like Shedrick was doing anything special on the offensive end.
We should have gone small with Kaluma at the 5 where we had more quickness to guard on the perimeter.

UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]

We all know the major male sports get priority.
Reed-Francois will almost certainly be fired if she loses Fisch and Lloyd.
