For people wondering why Texas was ranked where they were in the preseason rankings now you know why.
They knew Texas would go buy players in the portal.
-
How many of our losses have come against dominant pitchers? Canady, Berzon, Kilfoyl, and Maxell?
Don't think Baylor has an arm of this caliber. Stating the obvious here, but feels like you are going to need a legit ace to beat this Texas team.
-
Can't walk this many hitters but they've been effectively wild tonight.
Baylor hasn't put together many good swings at all.

Continuing to beat RT coached Horns teams in conference games is not a high bar... hell ucf and wvu beat Texas this past season.
I don't know why everything has to be a slight at RT.
Pope beat several good teams at home this year and then once again accomplished nothing. Somehow Kentucky hiring Pope (0 NCAA tournament wins in 9 years) turned into a bash RT thread who has won 4 NCAA tournament games in the last 2 years.

Pope has made the NCAA tournament 2 times in 8 seasons (not including Covid year) and knocked out both times in the 1st round by a double digit seed.
Maybe this works but this is about as bad a hire a blue-blood can make.

The Atlantic has Beers are #1 and Gardiner #6 in their transfer portal rankings
Gardiner is legit. I think she's probably even undervalued at #6.
Her 3 point % and FT percentage at somebody her size and as a Sophomore is pretty damn special. If she just played more minutes at Oregon State she would be a much bigger name.
-
Even if we don't land Beers the other big from Oregon State is also very good. Gardiner is probably a top 5 player in the portal.
I think Gardiner is also less likely to rock the boat with Jones because she can play the 4 and 5. The thing with Beers is she's a legit game changer and can be an All-American caliber player.

With Gaston and Faye both gone, Jones cannot play 40 minutes a game
She can't and especially with her injury history.
But Jones has started for good teams at Oregon State and Texas. It's still a difficult sell to convince a player like Jones to come off the bench.

That would be annoying. Just give them the trophy then.
Would suck for freshman Tec (6'5 center), Kitts (6'2 forward), incoming freshman Joyce Edwards (6'3 forward, #3 recruit).
But I have also seen UConn fans quite confident and her name linked to Iowa as well.
That's the only worry with Beers at Texas.
I know Jones announced she's returning but she would not start over Beers. Not sure how Jones would react to Beers at Texas.

Not surprising at all, Texas confirms Holle will be back for year 5
With Holle, Harmon, the two FR guards, and Booker who can also give you minutes at PG it will be interesting how the portal goes at guard. Feels like we will have to convince somebody to play 20 to 23 minutes instead of being a 30+ minute type.

I'm surprised you guys are concerned about Gaston leaving. I didn't watch more than half the games, so some of y'all saw a lot more of the team than I did and maybe that's my problem. I felt like she disappeared for entire quarters or halves sometimes. My view was that they could be better at that spot. That considered, I know I'm not some sort of WBB analyst or something.
I think the problem with Gaston/Jones is they're both good but neither are game changers. Really high floor with those two but there are potentially game changers in the portal. Texas has game changers at guard (Rori) and wing (Booker) next year.
The other issue with Gaston/Jones is both have a pretty extensive injury history. I say it's very unlikely both those 2 would ever be healthy together for a full season.

I wasn't thinking we'd see Gaston leave. Certainly would rather she didn't, but so it goes. Maybe Vic is planning to plug Carlton in there.
It was pretty obvious we were looking to upgrade at the 5 when Blair Schaefer started following the two Oregon State bigs (Beers and Gardiner).
Both of which are better than Gaston and probably even Jones.
Beers is the best player in the portal.

Give Beers whatever she wants in terms of NIL.
Rori, Booker, and Beers can win a title.

I completely agree. They're the devils we know. People get frustrated with Mitchell's play, but he was much better this year than last. Everyone is dazzled by his athleticism and expect more than he is ready to give. Hunter mostly needs to mature. Both are capable of being solid contributors that we don't have to hope might work out like most portal guys.
I think this is the main problem. Most would be fine having Mitchell and Hunter back if they are just 1) role players and 2) don't require much NIL allocation.
Seems unlikely but I think it was @closetojumpingthat suggested Mitchell looked around last year and didn't get any takers at the price he wanted. Maybe the same is true this cycle.

Phelia is now following AMo on Instagram
This seems like who we are targeting at the 2.

She is a steal is she’s fully healthy
She is but that's a huge question with her. She's been injured all 3 seasons in college.
-
Twitter thinks it's Azzi Fudd.
Meh, if true that's a major transfer but I don't think "it breaks the internet." She has major injury issues.
-
The only 2 big UCONN players that could leave are Bueckers or Fudd.
-
Texas State being sent to the College Station regional would be juicy.

If they take 2/3 from ULL this weekend, they’re hosting. Keep them out of our regional and please don’t match them up with us in a super
I would not want to play Texas State at all in a super.
You would have to beat them 2 out of 3 games where Mullins will likely pitch 90% of those innings. That's a difficult task.
-
Weird game.
Mullins didn't have anywhere close to her best stuff and we were awful defensively. I was expecting a 2-1 type score.
-
Feels like the Texas State coach over thought this one. No chance I'm taking Mullins out.
-
That works too.
-
Mullins is exiting but still think this has to be a sac bunt.

A backcourt of Weaver, Mark, Johnson, and Pope would be pretty damn good.
It's obvious that RT was not a fan of that small backcourt last year with Abmas/Hunter.
