He’s not a good safeties coach, either. Moving around the problem doesn’t solve the problem.
At safety he has a feather in his cap. Recruited and developed a first rounder at Notre Dame.

Look, I would be perfectly fine with firing one or both of the secondary coaches. But we also have to be real with ourselves, we basically started 4 safeties in the secondary last year.
Watts will be a safety at the next level and that’s where Texas wanted to move him.
Brooks was thought to be better at safety by most coaches who recruited him.
Taffe is Taffe.
we played Thompson and Crawford in big games and situations.
Williams is a pure safety prospect

Texas might have been in denial but it was always going to be pick which back up Star you wanted the most and lose the other. There is a Big 12 school who is recruiting a Denton Ryan kid really hard that also made sure the coaching staff knew they would welcome Austin with open arms and plenty of playing time. Ryan’s staff is pro Texas but they love their kids more. His family was very aware of the offer. It’s not a money issue, he just wants to play. Both Star players expected Barron to leave and for there to be an open competition for that spot. Barron comes back and that pushes back options for the kids. It’s business.

If Joseph can't recruit and can't coach then why is he here?
He can recruit the hell out of Louisiana.
He really should be a safety coach.

Is this a serious thing? Is this why we are missing out on players right now in CB recruiting? Like Sellers and Guidry leaning elsewhere?
I only speak on stuff I have direct knowledge about. I have no idea those two current recruitments.
joseph can recruit. He just mixes better with certain personalities. That’s natural though. That’s why you have different types of recruiters on staff to help out.

T Joseph doesn’t relate to certain types of personalities well.

I’ll say this in regards to Brooks father and Coach Joseph.
The issue that came up during Brooks freshman year was tied directly to how Joseph runs his room (rotations+playing time and how it’s communicated to the players) Some other coaches got involved because they related better to the family and solved the issues before the bowl game. In film breakdown towards the end of 2022 the coaches were grading out Brooks higher than other corners but the playing time wasn’t always reflecting that. When Jamison got back fully healthy, Jamison and his family expected him to return to the starting spot but Brooks family expected Brooks to continue to start because he had been playing well and grading out higher than Jamison. During Bowl practices the issue came to a head because Joseph was sending two different messages to each family and didn’t take the issue head on to be clear about the plan for bowl game rotations and who would start.
Manny Muhammad’s family didn’t really vibe with Joseph either early during that recruitment. They felt like they talked to everybody except Joseph. Sark had to really get on him to get more involved because the family liked Texas and loved Jeff Banks but wasn’t sold on how much Joseph wanted Manny.

What the fuck does that nonsense mean?
Somebody who transferred in, may be transferring again. (Report)
Expect a returning starter in the secondary to transfer.

Brooks makes the most sense. Wasn’t it mentioned on here he was considering the portal at the end of the 2022 season and there was some disconnect between the staff and his dad?
There was but that particular issue was put to bed before the Alamo Bowl vs Washington.

I think Tapp would create problems for teams in the Big 12. He has a ton of potential, just had more guys in front of him at Texas. Hopes he finds a good home.

With us taking two backs last year and looking really good for the 2026 running backs, I would actually prefer Texas to only take one back in this class. The two that have gotten the most attention are good backs, but nothing special.

Nansen is going to single handily fix the DT depth issues if he can pull Toia and Norton to go with the DT he previously brought with him from Arizona.

Kid's felt like an LSU lock all process. Interesting.
LSU surprised a lot of people and took a RB from Alabama last week. Plus the Cali RB is trending Ohio State cause he wants a massive NIL.
perfect storm fir Texas to pivot to Simon

The Walton news pisses me off. Coaches were up front with him about playing time in 24 but laid out a clear plan for his path to playing time. This was within the last 10 days. I’ll check in and see what changed on the family side.

Got it. I don't think those guys are likely in this cycle, but maybe FreeHorn knows something different.
He's mentioned in a lot of the practice notes. I will be surprised if he's not part of the rotation.
We were talking about edge being a crowded spot. Someone mentioned Walton as a possible transfer. My take on Walton/Akana was not for this cycle and really just reinforcing that the DLine coaches really like Walton and think he will be a player for Texas if he is patient. There is some similarities in the coaches eyes between the two players so I wonder if down the line a decision will need to be made between the two. I doubt either transfers this cycle.

Tapp is a guy that has offers on the table and playing time promises from other teams.
Swanson just isn’t big enough to do what Texas wants to do yet.
Walton knows they like him and will get a lot more run next year if he shows patience. I think we lose either Walton or Akina eventually but it’s still early. Akina was the higher ranked recruit so he may have more opportunities in the portal but coaches think Walton will be a player.

Year one Bo was unhappy with how the DTs were being used and wanted to coach the whole line. Once the DTs were allowed to be more active and penetrate more the whole line became less of an issue.
I like the returns on Coach Baker so far. Really good energy. Need a coach to bring the juice since PK is more laid back. Baker and Nansen are high energy guys. If Baker gets a guy or two drafted he is going to kill it recruiting.

Would Texas take Bear and the DT from Michigan or would it be a first one to commit type thing?
for the record I don’t trust Bear and think he is more hype than production. But people fall in love with potential every day.

Blackshire is the same jag today that he was a few years ago. Meh.
He should have bulked up and played DE or went to a base 3-4 school and played outside linebacker. As long as he/they think he can play in the middle he won’t give us much if anything.

People went crazy at a few highlights of Big Wash, also a lot of people used terms like Texas lean or Texas recruit to push engagement and views on social media sites.
Washington will not be part of Texas class. The sad part about things is a lot of people thought he had started to turn the corner early in last football season but we were all wrong. His coaches know he has to lose weight and this concern has been passed to him several times. He gotta get it together because he losing interest from other schools as well. I’m sure somebody will take him cause he is so massive but it won’t be the type of programs he and family expected.
Truth be told, he has to get the weight down for health reason. No kids needs to be pushing 400 pounds. It ain’t healthy.

Just a guess...
Recently reported that Ford played with an injury during part of this past season. (Might have been some type of hernia injury)
Damn. Make sense for him then. He could have used the exposure but getting healthy for pro day and combine are more important.

Not sure if this is the right place, but did anybody find out why Ford and J Whit didn’t participate in the senior bowl? I would have thought both could have used a good showing to help draft stock.

Scouts talking NIL is wild because there is also the flip side of that. If there wasn’t NIL to bring kids back for more development a lot of guys draft day would look very different. Plus the Covid year has been a blessing for kids. Several kids went top 3 rounds this year that greatly benefited from being able to play an extra year. Bo Nix doesn’t sniff first two rounds last year but goes 12 after using the extra year.
Penix uses the extra year to show he can stay healthy and has a magical run. No way he is a first rounder with the extra year.
