Jordan Scruggs and Hank South - Horns 247 - with notes on John Turntine and Ezavier Crowell.
ON TURNTINE
" ... Horns247 believes the recruitment is back trending towards the Longhorns as the month of June winds down."
" ... Horns247 likes our early Crystal Ball predictions in favor of the Longhorns with Turntine's Fourth of July decision just eight days away."
ON CROWELL
"All signs point to Alabama, but the Longhorns have continued a full-throttle approach here to try and land the Top100 running back."
FULL BLURBS
SpoilerTurntine trending Texas
Back in the summer of 2024, Horns247 put in two early 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Texas landing John Turntine III.
The first prediction came on June 5th from yours truly, and the second on July 30th from Hank South.
Though it was early in the process with Turntine rising into his junior year when the predictions went in, Horns247 had confidence in the Longhorns eventually winning out the recruitment for several reasons. Offensive line was going to be a huge need in the 2026 cycle and with the Longhorns always aiming for the best and Turntine being one of the nation's best at the position, Turntine landed an offer in the fall of his sophomore year where the high interest Texas had in Turntine was immediately reciprocated. The North Crowley product had several siblings living in Austin as students with one being a student at Texas. The Longhorns also stood out as an in-state school that offers a great education in the medical field, which Turntine has always aimed to pursue a career in after football ends. On top of that, the Longhorns offered a place where he could be developed by one of the top offensive line coaches in the country, while playing for one of the nation's top programs in the sport's top conference.
And not a single one of those things has changed since last summer.
Though Michigan, Texas A&M, and Stanford made the recruitment much more competitive as we got into the spring and eventually the summer when official visits were taken, Horns247 believes the recruitment is back trending towards the Longhorns as the month of June winds down.
Texas A&M gained a lot of momentum coming out of Turntine's official visit with the Aggies, but our latest intel suggests Michigan and Stanford currently pose a bigger threat to the Longhorns' chances. Though you can't ever rule out the Aggies, or the Wolverines or Cardinal for Turntine in today's day and age of recruiting, Horns247 likes our early Crystal Ball predictions in favor of the Longhorns with Turntine's Fourth of July decision just eight days away. (JORDAN SCRUGGS)
Decision Day for Ezavier Crowell
Texas running back target Ezavier Crowell will announce his decision on Thursday evening on the 6 p.m. CT WKRG News 5 broadcast (roughly 6:20 p.m. CT).
Here's what we wrote on the situation on Thursday:
"Tough sledding trying to gather information on Top100 RB Ezavier Crowell with his decision set for tomorrow (June 26). The prevailing belief is Bama when speaking with sources and Alabama has continued to feel great about its positioning with Crowell. However, that doesn't mean Texas is throwing in the towel, and the Longhorns still felt like they have a legit shot with Crowell as of Tuesday night. I do think this is an Alabama-Texas race down the stretch. Crowell ended up being the only running back UT hosted this summer on an official visit after KJ Edwards popped to Texas A&M, and the staff never brought in Derrek Cooper. Sources made note that it's always tough to get top players out of Alabama but that they think that's more achievable in this post-Nick Saban era. That's ironic regarding Crowell though since Bama literally brought in Nick Saban last week for Crowell's official visit. To this point, Kalen DeBoer and his staff have landed just one of the top 18-ranked players from Alabama in this 2026 recruiting class. Bottom line: head on a swivel ahead of Thursday."
This is where we stand this morning as well.
All signs point to Alabama, but the Longhorns have continued a full-throttle approach here to try and land the Top100 running back. Crazier things have happened in recruiting. We'll be keeping an eye on his announcement as we draw closer to Crowell's choice. This is an Alabama or Texas decision. (HANK SOUTH)

- Trenton Henderson announcing July 2nd.
- Tom Loy thinks he bailed on USC because of distance (primarily); if that's a factor, watch out for Fla. Also, he's closer to Baton Rouge than he is Fla, so LSU's in it too ... and Texas's visit was "perfect." So, yeah 🙂
Also ... lulz.
The Gators 247 mod had a thread with the Trenton Henderson Fla/LSU/Texas Top-3 announcement.

Greg Biggins (247 Sports), on Richard Wesley. You want positivity - you got positivity.
"He's a very talented player and arguably the best edge rusher to come out of California in years. Kayvon Thibodeaux from the 2019 class is actually a player whom he has been compared to, in terms of frame and play style. But Wesley is further along from a size, strength and toughness standpoint at the same stage."
"When you combine his size, natural athleticism, physicality and work ethic, his ceiling is as high as any player out West.
Wesley isn't just a potential high-round NFL Draft pick. He has all the traits and off-the-field work ethic to hear his name called in Round 1 if he continues to develop at his current rate."

SpoilerScouting Take: Texas lands Richard Wesley, who is arguably California's best EDGE since Kayvon Thibodeaux
Greg Biggins (247 Sports)
Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive lineman Richard Wesley announced his commitment to Texas moments ago, and we break down what the Longhorns are getting in the talented pass rusher. Wesley is the 2026 Top247's No. 35 overall prospect after reclassifying from the 2027 class. He was a top-five player in the junior cycle, and we do think that he's a trend-up candidate who will continue to climb.
He's a very talented player and arguably the best edge rusher to come out of California in years. Kayvon Thibodeaux from the 2019 class is actually a player whom he has been compared to, in terms of frame and play style. But Wesley is further along from a size, strength and toughness standpoint at the same stage.
We also like Wesley more, at the same stage, than current Duck Matayo Uiagalelei — an expected high-round pick in next April's 2026 NFL Draft — and Drake Jackson, who was a 2022 second-rounder.
Wesley is a player whom we've been tracking since middle school. Even with the reclassification, Wesley has started 20-plus varsity games against the state's toughest competition and more than held his own. He shows off natural pass-rush ability and can dominate in the run game.
He flashes a quick get-off, uses his hands well and can really bend and dip to turn the corner. He's strong at the point of attack, doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game and has a nice physical edge to him.
At 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, Wesley already has a college frame and we think he can step in and play immediately at the college level. We saw him at the Under Armour Next Camp and, in the limited reps that he took, looked like a man among boys.
He has the motor that you love to see in a young edge rusher, loves the weight room and checks off the multi-sport background box for us as well. Wesley was a talented hooper before high school and ran track as a freshman.
We could see Wesley playing some as interior tackle, although staying as an edge rusher is definitely his first choice and where he's being recruited.
He does have the toughness to handle himself against opposing guards and centers and would be a load to deal with from a pass-rush standpoint.
When you combine his size, natural athleticism, physicality and work ethic, his ceiling is as high as any player out West.
Wesley isn't just a potential high-round NFL Draft pick. He has all the traits and off-the-field work ethic to hear his name called in Round 1 if he continues to develop at his current rate.

A few quick notes from Texas' June 20-22 OV weekend
Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)
SpoilerA few quick notes from Texas' June 20-22 OV weekend
Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)
We'll have a lot more in tomorrow's stampede and I'll have a few more OV recap stories out tomorrow but wanted to add a few quick notes:
- Texas is in a battle with Georgia for Chace Calicut ahead of his commitment that is taking place on Friday at an OT7 tournament in Florida. It's very close and I think Texas still has a shot to win out, but I'm leaning Georgia for the North Shore product heading into the week.
- It seems like Texas has expanded its lead for Katy Mayde Creek three-star LB Kosi Okpala. He will be announcing his decision date and his top four sometime in the next few days and the decision will take place in a ceremony at Mayde Creek in the first few days of July. Love my crystal ball in favor of Texas.
- Talked to some on the Georgia side of things that believes Tyler Atkinson's decision will end up coming down to the in-state Bulldogs and the Longhorns. I think Texas has a bigger need than Georgia at LB when you look at the LB room of each team, but the Bulldogs have had several LB dominoes fall elsewhere and are basically all-in on Atkinson to the point where if Atkinson didn't go to Georgia the Bulldogs would likely have to flip someone or extend a new offer or two.- Still like the' chances of Keawe Browne ending up in the class over the chances of Heze Kent or Kaiden Prothro
- Still working to find out more but I still think it will be near impossible for anyone to keep Kaiden Prothro from ending up at Georgia.- I was a bit skeptical heading into the OV because we almost never see top ranked prospects from the Southeast naming a school as their leader without games being played in some form or fashion, but Kendall Guervil's interest in Texas is very genuine and the Longhorns are trending with Guervil having announced his July 2nd commitment date while he was still officially visiting Texas last night.
- Still working to find out more on Calvin Thomas but with what we heard going into the official visit it felt like Thomas would likely eventually turn into a Texas commit if the Longhorns pushed on the OV, and it sounds like they made a push. He did tweet about committing soon just a few days before his Texas OV, so we would not be shocked at all if Thomas committed to the Longhorns soon.
Again, we will have more tomorrow and in the coming days.

Looks like Chad Simmons (On3) has put in a CB for Kendall Guervil, to Texas.
Edit: And Sam Spiegelman has put in a FutureCast prediction for Kosi Okpala, to Texas.
