Young has been on the short list for NBA head coaching positions (Brooklyn, Charlotte, Utah) and there are reports he was offered Brooklyn but turned it down (didn't think it was a good fit/situation). He's the highest paid assistant in the NBA. Players, like Durant and Booker, love him and were supportive of him becoming head coach in Phoenix.
Pope in 9 years at Utah Valley University and BYU has made it to the tournament twice and had zero wins (lost to lower seeds). He never won the WCC conference or tournament while at BYU.
Young has a better resume than Pope. Nobody thinks Young is Wooden, but this is a home run hire for BYU and beyond what we have been able to hire in the past, hence the surprise and celebration.
You have to be a Kentucky fan to not think it's a funny that BYU got a better coach than Kentucky.

How about you just not ban our fans from buying tickets on the open market?

I mean TCU was not wrong to worry about a "sea of blue" happening at a DFW venue lol

Yep. For continuity, FAU is #1 (and also #41 in Experience). I would NOT want to play them in the tourney.
Could end up being a tough 2nd game for UConn

Rumors are that Steve Alford will be OSU's next coach. I'd prefer someone younger, but if true, I can't say I hate it too much. His track record is solid and what we need more than anything right now is respectability and appearances in March. I think he can get us there, but still hope for Devries or one of the other lower level up and comers that are currently in the dance.
I would imagine that would probably be his last stop before retirement

We just got fucked in the ass by the committee
I don't like that if we can win 2 games we might have to play you again.

Congrats, Tech, on the win. You have a good, tough, swarming, relentless, well-coached team.
This season we've bounced back well after our losses. Now we gotta get some rest, get healthy (Khalifa) and see if we can finally do some damage in the tourney.
Also, the Reid vibes were not enough today.

We can't hit anything right now. Shooting 19%. Bad BYU is here today. TT playing tough D and almost every 3 dropping. Less than 4 minutes in the half left and we have only 15 points. Wow. Barring some crazy comeback, we need to flush this stinker and reset for the tourney. Geez.
-
Not an ideal start. TT shooting 80%, 2-2 from 3. BYU 20%, 0-3 from 3. 🫤

Kansas looking rough as expected. Not sure they can go past 6 deep in this game. Will still laugh like a motherfucker if they get run out of the gym.
Strange times when BYU is deeper than Kansas.

UCF gave up after that call. They had gotten it to down to a one possesion game earlier in the 2nd half. I did enjoy the excellent sportmanship of the BYU team jacking up 3's until the final possession.
UCF never gives up. That is a fiesty team.
Yeah, UCF got it down to 3, but BYU had already started rebuilding the lead with the F1 occurred. There were BS calls in that game, but disagree that one was BS. The UCF player looked behind him and then purposefully undercut Khalifa (and could have caused an injury).
If you saw the end of the last time we played UCF you would recognize that you don't stop trying to score against them until they call it off. We took an intentional turnover on our last possession, so there you go.

This game completely changed with the BS flagrant one call.
BYU led the whole game, but okay...

BYU has kind of choked this away.
This is fair. 3 of the last 4 possessions ended in turnovers. Went cold shooting. We had that one and couldn't close.

Uh-huh. I always curse those whose opinions don't matter to me. Work through your self-contradiction. You super duper greatly care what the folks on this board think about your opinions. That's why you come to a board not meant for you and tell us your opinions on things. Because you care what we think and desire a reaction.
Deep down in the places you don't talk about at tailgates, you want Texas fans to listen to you. You need that validation. You use words like POS, Fuck you, and worst. We use these words to put you in your place. You use them as envious deflection when you're taking another loss. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very exposure that Texas provides and then questions the manner in which they provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went back to your second tier. Otherwise, I suggest you recognize your place in the hierarchy. Either way, we don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to. You will return to your dustbowl town and try to remember as the years pass when anyone outside the state knew you existed.
So you did order the Code Red then?

It's fair to wait and see whether Young succeeds at the college level. He's known for player development. Hoping he can recruit well on a pitch of I know what it takes in the NBA and I can help you get there. If he fills out his staff with good recruiters it can be a nice combo. We'll see -- it's fair.
This does signal a major shift in BYU's approach though. We've always been do more with less and paying below market value. Pope was estimated to be in the 1.5-2 mil salary range, which is near the bottom of the Big 12. We've never hired a coach like this before and never paid this kind of money. It's always been a gamble on a younger up and comer from a smaller school. Pulling someone from the NBA is a big deal for us. It's a sign that we really want to compete at the highest level and different than the mindset we've had before. Danny Ainge and Ryan Smith played big roles in helping to pull this off.
@'stache, I'm just having a little fun with it. You don't have to be the fun police. 🚓
