VIP intel on DB recruiting, Texas coaches on the road this week

    Hank South (Horns 247)

Here's the latest VIP recruiting intel Horns247 has gathered on Monday.

-- Texas hosted five-star safety and Florida commit Xavier Filsaime for the Red River Shootout. On Monday afternoon the McKinney standout announced a formal offer from the Longhorns. So, where does UT stand? Right now it's somewhat of a wait-and-see type situation, we're told, per sources. There's definitely mutual interest, but as to where that will go it remains to be seen. Checking on the Florida said of things, there isn't much worry out of Gainesville just yet in terms of how the program feels about their long-time pledge. If he turns up in Austin later this season and UF struggles down the stretch, both possible, things could get interesting. For now we'll just keep his name in our back pocket. Texas also continues to stay in touch with Aggies safety commit Myles Davis, who intends to visit campus for the Texas Tech game.

-- Another Gators commit Texas is pursuing, and has more traction with than Filsaime at this point, is Wardell Mack. The John Ehret product was not in attendance on Saturday for Texas-Oklahoma, but does intend to get to one of the Longhorns' final three home games, his father tells Horns247. Which game that will be is to be determined. Texas is expected in this week to see the Gators pledge, who UT had momentum with following his official visit to the Forty Acres back in June. There's remained optimism about Texas' position on the UT end throughout the fall.

-- With the Longhorns off this weekend, the Texas staff will be busy on the road this week checking in on commits and targets. Most of the action will come on Thursday and Friday as the staff travels to games and high schools. We noted above that Texas is expected to stop in to see Mack this week. Other trips we've learned of include:

    Thursday

AJ Milwee is seeing Texas commit Trey Owens

Kyle Flood will be in Houston and Dallas ahead of traveling to the West Coast

    Friday

AJ Milwee is seeing Texas commit KJ Lacey and Alabama wide receiver commit Ryan Williams

Tashard Choice and Blake Gideon are seeing Texas commits Jerrick Gibson and Jordon Johnson-Rubell, IMG prospects

Kyle Flood is seeing Longhorns pledge Brandon Baker and Auburn commit DeAndre Carter, among Mater Dei prospects

Chris Jackson is seeing five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo in Kansas City

We'll do a more in-depth coaching visit piece later in the week as the schedule comes together more.

Saban does not give a fuck about winning anything but the next game he plays,  That is why he is so successful.  His panties are not in a wad about possibly losing Milroe.

He doesn't have a stable of 4-5* QB's waiting their turn like he's had in the past. His panties may not be wadded, but you can be damn sure he doesn't want to lose Milroe.

Did Saban have to sit Milroe after our game to figure out he didn't want to lose him.

He should know what he has backing him up.

Us winning an NC on the way out and the BIG 12 not being able to use it's marketing value to its fullest, especially during BB season without looking completely petty would be  priceless...

    That's good.

I never thought of it that way but spot on.

No weird screens or gadget plays for losses

No FG attempts outside of 40 yards

No blown coverages on deep passes as Gabriel can hit those open shots

You beat me to it,  I was just going to post no backward pass to Worthy and no double reverse.

Kansas didn’t hold their own, they got pushed around all day and Texas demonstrated red zone problems that have been around all season except for Baylor.

Strange game,  you're right we dominated everything but were only up 6 late in the third.

    I was having flashbacks.

  6. Nobody on our team has really been playing will lately.

Scottie had a great year,  but he hasn't been playing/putting well lately.  Jordan has been playing a little better but he's inconsistent and it showed up today.  Not sure why Morikawa is on the team.  Burns and Clark don't scare anyone.   I thought Ricky Fowler would play better,  but he didn't look like he knew where he was,  same with Cantlay and Schauffele.

I can't believe I got up at 12:30 to watch this ass kicking.

I kind of felt like this would happen. We’ve all seen it before. You can even see a little of it here. You can really see on the OU and ATM boards.

What’s that? Everyone in the media starting to convince themselves that Kansas will not only play Texas tough, but they’re going to pull the upset. They’re going to pull the upset because they have: a dynamic qb; an opponent in Texas that still doesn’t know how to win (nevermind this is being mentioned as something in favor of Kansas!); and apparently a resurgent defense.

Nothing has changed. Daniels has been known to be the KU starter. Texas knows it has to focus every week to achieve its goals. Kansas’ defense, while still shitty, had nowhere to go but up.

But, hey, America loves an underdog and the media enjoys talking Texas, whether as a blue blood or a villain or both. It’s all bullshit. Texas is going to roll these guys. Then we get to hear the build up about an angry and resurgent OU out for vengeance as a 9.5 point underdog heading into the RRS. Look at the advanced efficiency statistics!!

You left out 7 Win Steve.

If I remember correctly, Quinn and Card we not given the job until the week of the 1st game.  I cant imagine him changing that for Arch or Maalik. Sark wants both of them on the team next year. Announcing a starter early would put that in jeopardy.

I think the players will know what time it is after spring practice.

If it's really close,  Murphy gone.

yeah, some dudes are going to hit the portal w/ the team returning 4 of 5 likely starters

    image.thumb.png.0d8f3a3bffae7fd3bb69f4396838fdb2.png

returning 4 potential starters seems incredible. return Banks, Conner, Majors. return one of Hutson or Campbell at RG. likely have a dogfight at RT with Cam Williams and Baker or some of the RSFR tackle dudes (Goosby, Chatman, Cojoe. )

Merril sounds like he ain't going anywhere.

who knows what happens with Connor Robertson. having 4 scholarships spent at center seems way less ideal than spending 5 on Kickers + Punters + LS like they have now.

likely to lose some of the guards - i can see whoever loses at RG (Hutson or Campbell) moving on potentially. Can't see a universe where the team keeps all Conner, Neto, Agbo, Huston and Campbell.

so guys potentially on the bubble next year are Neto or Agbo, Campbell or Hutson, some of the RSFR who decide to move on (if one of them gets passed by Baker at RT), Robertson maybe if he gets passed by with Cruz before fall camp? Cam Williams maybe if he gets beat out by Baker?

I don't think Campbell leaves unless he just doesn't get any better,  and I don't see that happening.

I'm like most,  would really hate to see Williams go.
