July racing in Austria and Hungary were a fucking cauldron.  Never again.  Most interesting (late) summer race for me is Belgium where's there's possibility of rain...and probability of tons of beer

Spa is an awesome track, more elevation changes than it shows on tv...just  a gas to drive. You'll love it.

well that just means no girls in bikinis then

Nope. They have such a short summer, they take advantage of it when it finally shows....4th of July this year.  They are a little bright when they first show, but they brown nicely.

Would love Colorado or Washington, but with the fires and water issues, we’re thinking east coast instead.

Neither is an issue from the Cascades west.....a lot of red hats to the east.

  4. All kinds of waterholes on the route....my fav is Blackie's in Newport Beach,  on the boardwalk by the pier. Bunch of old surfers day drinking. Numerous others in Seal Beach & Belmont Shores.

  5. Okay, that's different.  Death Valley itself, and most of the touristy sites are in the eastern part of the park, located near the Nevada border and is easiest accessed from there. It would be a very long day accessing that area from the west via 395.  If you just want to 'touch base' inside the national park, you could head east from Olancha on 190 to Panamint Springs. Not much there, but you will pass the Father Crowley overlook, where you can watch the Navy fighter jets out of Lemoore or Fallon blast down 'Star Wars Canyon' below you @ 600+ mph. There's a lot of cool sand dunes in the park, Eureka being my fav...it's a washboard dirt road, as are many in the park. Take plenty of water, and most of the park does not have cell service. If you have mechanical problems, don't leave your car! Many folks die within a half mile of their vehicle when they 'went looking for help.'

Still recommend a drive on the June Lake Loop, it's about 30 miles north of Mammoth.  The 'Whoa Nellie Deli' at the Mobil Station at the base of Tioga Pass a bit further north has good grub and often live music, but beware of the seagulls when eating outside - I lost a New York steak to one when i left the table to get pepper.

  6. Kinda a haul south to Death Valley, you wouldn't get to spend much time there if it was a day trip. Spend the day bopping' around the June Lake Loop (looks like Switzerland) hit Silver Lake Cafe for the best breakfast in the eastern Sierra, maybe hit the Bodie ghost town.

  7. Back to the Range Rover -nice lady on the next block that we met walking dogs owns a RR dealer, a Caddy dealer, and a Toyota dealer. Her ride was a Forerunner. I once kidded her about trying to be low key and not driving a RR. Her response: I'm a busy lady...just because I own the dealership doesn't mean the damn thing doesn't die on me. Her husband drives caddies.

Counterpoint: Ankarsrum. If your primary use is lots of dough or heavy dough, don't waste time trying to keep Kitchenaids alive. Now if you are doing lighter stuff like cookies, or needing to cream or whip frosting/meringue, then the Kitchenaid excels.

Wife has had her kitchenmaid for 29 years. She makes at least one loaf of wheat bread a week. That's 1500+ loaves, runs like new. That's not counting the pies, or the pasta she makes with the thing. Haven't had to do shit to 'keep it alive'.

  9. Well, waiting is better than what Mercedes Sprinter does...they just build it with the parts on hand, and if they don't have the parts for your options, they just leave the option off of your order. Somehow mine slipped through with all my ordered options ,much to the disbelief of my salesman.

Riding a bicycle down the volcano after watching the sunrise is probably the most fun thing my wife and I ever did.

Back when I was much younger, I road all the way up  before heading down.

I've heard that they no longer drop you off at the top because so many people were crashing on the way down.

  11. I've got pretty decent hearing despite my age (67) and the fact that  I spent 5 years of my life continuously using a skilsaw, then 3 years touring with a major rock band. I moved to Washington state last year, so using a chainsaw has become a common, usually weekly thing. I use 2x hearing protection, expanding plugs under muffs.  No real signs of tinnitus were present, but...I normally go on the wagon for the first 3 months of the year, but for some reason I haven't practiced abstinence the last couple of years. This year is different, I decided I can't let a particular political party get the better of me.  Now 5 weeks dry, and I have definitely got the ringing in my ears. Hopefully I've got an easy solution coming up in 7 weeks.

  12. Appears to have the 2nd tank, which is a good thing. Old man had a '75 (I think) with the full time 4wd. Had 70 gallons worth of tanks , needed them all.  My brother and I were framing  houses at the time, living in Pasadena and driving to San Juan Capistrano daily for work....142 mile round trip, we were barely breaking even.
