@XianIf you need a masonry contractor that knows how to refurbish fireplaces with fire brick or Isokern you can PM me.

This work is tedious, messy and will be expensive.  Gird your loins.

So true....finding a mason who deals in fireplaces/chimneys is no easy task....will no doubt be an old geezer.

I’m sure I’ll get corrected if wrong, but I think the band was started by Alex and he named it VH, and Eddie joined later.
or did they start it together?

The brothers, Mark Stone on bass, and Dave pounded the Pasadena High School beer bash party circuit first as Genesis, then Mammoth then Van Halen.  Ironically, Mark Stone, who I went to high school with (went to Jr. High with the brothers, but they went to the "alternate" high school) and lived 1/4  miles from , passed last week of cancer.  Had a lot of fun with those boys.....

Do the right thing is on the tv.

    ”Always do the right thing.

    Thats it?

    Thats it.

    I got it.

    I’m gone.”

    One very prescient movie.

    Channel?

That was my first of my four (in a row) black/soul/blacksexploitation shows...still have the shirt.

  4. Linda was pretty damn hot, and her voice was incredible...saw her play at Occidental College, she was just tearing it up. Then she apologizes about her singing, saying she was sick. Couldn't tell.

CSB - my brother, who went to a blue blood private high school, brought along a date to the concert that had lived a rather sheltered life. Prepping for the concert, he had made a rather strong batch of brownies. Proceeded to smoke a joint with his date, who got the munchies and ate half of the brownies before anybody realized what was happening. Couldn't take her home for quite some time.

Another CSB - Linda was hot, but Stevie Nicks is the sexist female I've been around. We had the same hair person in the '80's. Just dripping sex....

The only reason I'd buy one is for reliability so if that's slipping then it would be a non-starter for me. I know the older ones could last decades if they were maintained.

Maybe I can find an old one in good shape.

I had my old one (18 years) totally rebuilt 4 years ago, was about $3,500 for everything, both compressors, by the local authorized service dealer. Repairman keep saying how I was doing the right thing, the new ones are all computerized, very hard to find the problem etc.. I'm happy - 3.5 versus 15.5 $K was an easy swallow.

  6. Just north of Orange Grove, east of Mountain Trail....so, 4 houses north of the Arcadia Border.  The Station Fire burn should help, as long as they keep the fire from jumping the ridge  from Santa Anita canyon south to Little Santa Anita canyon...they were trying like hell to hold that line last night.  The frontside between Santa Anita and Eaton didn't get touched during the Station Fire, so if the fire jumps into Little Santa Anita, all hell will break loose in regards to structures.  Smokey enough now that there are no choppers flying right now (10:45).

Good to know your location, SB...we'll bring the fried chicken the next 4th...usually watch it from the back of the pickup parked on Hill.

  7. Checking in from Sierra Madre, southern edge of the Bobcat fire. We bailed out Saturday morning to Ventura, to escape the AQI 472 smoke, and the new racket from the helicopters refilling at the city yards settling basins, which are a eighth of a mile north of us. They weren't flying the previous 3 days due to lack of visibility, but started flying Friday afternoon in the same conditions. Returned Sunday evening to the clearest exterior air in days, but the house was full of smoke. Opened the windows and turned on the fans to clear it out.  Stupidly went to bed with the windows open...when the marine layer comes inland, it creates a inversion layer that traps the smoke until the rising temps evaporate the inversion layer. Woke up to a house filled with nasty smoke. We bailed out again, and are now residing at the Double Tree in Monrovia.

Air Quality in Sierra Madre is 242 now, about half as bad  as it was yesterday at this time. When I was checking west coast air quality on Purpleair, I was stunned to see 672 at Lee Vining, which is the western portal of Yosemite in the Sierra.

Waiting for a call from a local HVAC contractor so I can pick up a new, odd sized air filter for an older friend of ours who lives by the Rose Bowl who is experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. I'm wearing an industrial respirator when i'm out sand about these days.
