  1. Had a bud I've known since 4th grade (and we were at UT at the same time) call me last night to see if I wanted to go to AK next month with him.  I hemmed and hawed about the fact I'm going again next year on a DIY float/fish trip, and a week at a nice fishing lodge would run $6K or so, airfare not included.

He said we could take his Beechcraft Baron (with a pilot) at no charge to me, then rent a RV in Anchorage and head down the Kenai.  I replied commercial air was a 6.5 hour trip or so, how long would it take in the Baron?  He said about 8-9 hours, added with some fueling/piss stops along the way.  So I googled the cruising speed of a Baron.  It would take about 16 hours at cruising speed, not including pit stops.  So, two days just to get there.  Ummm, no.  I would get PTSD being cooped that long.

Offered to pay my way on AA then rent a RV once we get there.  We'll see.

  2. Love Alaska, been there 5 times, going again next year.  Fly-fishing for trout & coho's in such a pristine setting is absolutely awesome.

Last time I went was in 2016 with my brother while we were on a DYI rafting/fishing trip.  He announces that we will get up in  the middle of the night and watch the northern lights, weather permitting.  Woke up two nights in a row, nothing but a gorgeous, clear, starry night.  Got home and my brother discovered there are websites that forecast the Aurora such as:

     https://www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast

Turns out that although SW Alaska kicks ass for fishing, it's not the greatest for catching the northern lights.

I'd say this is bad advice. Just like waiters/workers at liquor stores the management instructs workers to push the stuff that is either old/about to go bad or doesn't sell well.

Just know if you want sativa or indica dominant hybrids and when you get there look up the stuff they have on your phone and see what you want.

I have been burned only once,  by a budtender in Vegas.  Friend I was with wanted to go visit the pawn shop in the reality show by downtown. After the visit, we decided to walk about a half mile to the closest dispensary.    Extremely sketchy part of town, like security guards in gas station/convenience stores sketchy.  Sold me some old shit that wouldn't normally passed the smell test.  Another tip, look at the dated the product was packed.  Next trip to Vegas, I ubered to a recommendation from a guy I know; much better experience.

    Trust, but verify.

I've never been to a dispensary, for those that occasionally drop in from out of state, how much do you usually buy and how much do you spend?

If someone is going to go through the trouble of buying out of state it should be like a restocking trip to the liquor store.

A “friend” went to CO last summer and spent about  $300 which was about 8-9 months worth of supply.   A few tips and observations for a first timer:

    — have a rough game plan of what you want, but be flexible.  Sone would say that websites of dispensaries are not updated religiously              — listen to your “budtender”; he or she can be incredibly helpful.  Tipping is appreciated, and My friend thinks budtenders like Texans as customers as we are likely to buy much more at one time than residents.                                                                     — take your time, use the eye and smell test on the bud.  Know the difference between Indica and Sativa (hybrid options exist) and the budtender will take it from there.  Go over your options on vapes, edibles, pre-rolls, etc.                    — some dispensaries have their bud air purged and replaced with nitrogen, which is said to prolong the shelf life of bud.  The packaging is usually less smelly as well.                                          — don’t use your cell phone or take pictures in the dispensary,  that’s frowned on.                             — repackage your stash upon return if needed.  Vacuum sealing is best, ziplock freezer baggies if no sealer.  Store in a cool, dry, dark place.

    or so I’ve heard...

Farrakhan is a reactionary black nationalist who has strategized often with reactionary white supremacists who share his priorities, namely racial separatism. He and his followers within the Nation of Islam espouse a philosophy of liberation rooted in religious fundamentalism, capitalist self-sufficiency, ethnonationalism, and a retreat into patriarchal family structures. That in Farrakhan’s case these values were forged in response to white racism does not make them any less conservative.

Have to agree.  Not sure I’m aligned with Fararakhan’s views any more than the other RWNJ’s out there.
