  1. Kirk Cameron dropping his whole “we’re in the end times” schtick because now, Christian Nationalists are grabbing power and flaunting that shit in everyone’s faces, is totally on brand.

Sometimes I wish there was a hell, so I could greet these fucksticks personally upon their arrival.

Musk is petty enough to turn Trump down if Trump won't do what he wants.

Fair. I still think he siphons some money Trump’s way. Especially if things start looking bad for MAGA towards the end of summer.

  3. We're looking into exit plans from Oklahoma much sooner than we had initially planned for. My oldest is in college in-state, so I'm pushing her to get her degree and get the fuck out of here. She's an anthropology / history major and wants to do field work. Gotta be somewhere north of the Mason / Dixon Line that offers.

Our youngest is in 5th grade and has really settled into a friend group. I fucking hate ripping that away. When I was kid, we moved to a different state every 2-1/2 years chasing the patch until I was 15 or 16 and we were in Oklahoma. It sucks for a kid to have to start over, especially at the tween / young teen age, and somewhere as wildly unfamiliar as Michigan or Massachusetts or Washington state.

That being said, neither my kids or wife are protected under the laws of Oklahoma. Some of the crazier bills never made it out of committee this turn, but banning birth-control is still alive and kicking. And there's only the promise of more crazy coming down the pike.  Hard to justify staying, even for short-term emotional stability.

What school administrator/teacher is standing there saying, "yeah, this is okay"?  If you're in school administration in Oklahoma you have to know Walters is looking for this kind of stuff.  He can't wait to F up school principals and teachers and de-cert your school.

You won’t get an argument for me. The optics of the entire thing, even if it was entirely organized by students, are brutal and play right into the Walters / LibsofTikTok / Christian Nationalism rhetoric.

It’s a self-inflicted wound that we really could’ve done without.

There's stuff to be positive about, even if it is worrisome.  The fact of the matter is that 25% of Republicans on a national level have voiced their displeasure with at least the perceived incumbent candidate.  I wish I could tell you that he was for sure going to fall over dead tomorrow, but I can't.  That having been said, the current Republican platform, which lets face it, is entirely MAGA, resonates with the same people it's always resonated with; it doesn't with the broader public; and this abundantly clear in the suburbs, particularly in the swing states.  Any defectors we peel off or just get to sit at home is just gravy on top for us.  Also bear in mind, that in 2016 it took a completely unenthused electorate behind a bad candidate combined with them getting every nut job out to vote.   They did it, and ever since that time, Democrats have been winning on every level.

It's scary to play a game of brinksmanship even if you think there is an 80% shot you win.  On the national level, I like many of the numbers we are seeing.    This is pretty much all going to come down to young people like yourself, and your ability to recruit your peers.   It's our biggest advantage, and frankly this group, 30 and under, will determine this outcome.   So if you are feeling down, I hope this motivates you and reinvigorates you; you will make the difference; we need you, and we need you to recruit voters.

I appreciate the response. And I’m with you, except for a minor-ish caveat:

I’m 40 (and a man, and apparently a spiritual lesbian). But I’m pushing my oldest kid to try and rally votes at her college, even if it is somewhat useless in Oklahoma. I push the same message with the utes at the law school, but they’ve mostly made their minds up. Still, I try to pull the “old man with experience speaking truth to power” schtick but… forget it Jake, it’s Oklahoma.

Frankly though, I’m beginning to push more and more to head north ahead of some this madness. Feels shitty to do, cause not everyone has that option, but it feels like we’re being boxed into a corner around here.

Nah, this is a different kind of stupid. We used to be common sense based, hold people accountable, and do what's right kind of people.

I think they consider all of these things "woke" now.

Yes, they took on the anti-abortion stance (after supporting abortion less than a decade prior) as a means of uniting the conservative vote.  It was based on racially discriminatory schools.

That's the big one I've read. Trying to break Brown v. Board due to "bussing concerns."

You’ve got to think Robinson being the R nominee for Governor of Nawf Carolina hurts trump more than it helps. I don’t think the trump team wanted that to happen but I sure as fuck did.

Read up a bit about Robinson today. Total fucking nutcase.
