Many will provide that sanctuary.  I have a lot of issues with religion and various sects of Christianity, but there are plenty who take the Bible stuff seriously.  Paxton has already been going after some of them,

I hope so. I hope their behavior gets emulated across some of the more rural states surrounding Texas. I have very little trust in the Christians of Oklahoma.

    Guess this goes here...?

This story is different, and frankly weird as hell, but not kid touching by church / school members.

I'm not a fan of it, if I'm being honest, and my kid isn't in Deer Creek. If they were, I'd probably have some pointed questions. That being said, it's become a bullet that's already been loaded in Walters's gun aimed at public education in Oklahoma. The culture wars for the schools is really going to start getting ugly up here.

Let's be honest, circumstances aside, it's one of the great photos in American history.  That doesn't mean it needs to be used in government offices and publications, though, given the back story.

This is a legitimate, well-reasoned, almost common-sense opinion and approach to the issue. I agree completely.

And it will still be used as some sort of rallying cry for the MAGA crowd. Everyday I'm fucking lost that reason only exists for about 52% of the country.

  4. There's always been people that have shifted center once elected, for all the usual money and incumbency reasons.

That said, this one burned me up a bit, if only because the abandonment of her platform seemed like such whiplash. She's not my senator, so maybe that was always whispered about in the Arizona political background? I don't know, but good riddance.

Oh he did plenty of shit that was wrong. I think there's all sorts of stuff he could be nailed on. I am just skeptical that "insurrection" is one of them.

I do not think Trump is competent to be president. I think he is selfish, stupid and vain. I think he is dangerously egotistical. But I think he cratered when his rally spun out of his control.

I prefer "totally fucking pedantic" but thanks

Serious question, what would qualify as an insurrection to you?

Diplomatic cables exchanged between Trump and Biden that he intended to remain in office?

  6. TIL that when a violent mob storm the United States fucking Capitol in the name of, and at the behest of, a political candidate to protect his incumbency and reverse a legally-recognized election result, it is not an insurrection.

I know a guy that went to Northwestern for Law School, top his class, the whole nine yards, great academic, pick of the litter for jobs, got a great one.  One of his first cases was an arbitration between a chicken distribution company and a smallish but successful family run chicken restaurant chain.  The parties had to be kept separate during the arbitration over a price rise, after the initial offer to the chain, the son looked at the father and said, "Daddy, you want me to go in there and whip all their asses?".

Like most things, it's likely not what you imagined.

I’ve done most of my intern/extern/ALI work through the university indigent civil clinic, in Oklahoma, which might explain my distaste for working the profession.

It is incredibly difficult to watch everyday folks get hammered by the process itself. Add in the typical array of attorney tricks (evidence dumping the day before the hearing in my case) and judges who arbitrarily ignore legitimate warning signs of violence, it has become one of the most fucked up experiences of my life. Caseloads are so large, and without any really money behind you, most of the attorneys have just accepted the losses and move on to try and win the next.

There’s a helplessness to it that drives me mad.

Here's the thing: the SCOTUS will be functionally dissolved.

Plot twist: it will be by the Trump regime.  If the SCOTUS fails to 100% in all respects do exactly what Trump wants, his next administration will simply disregard it, fully and finally destroying its last vestige of legitimacy (the next Trump regime won't make the mistake of the first one: actually obeying court orders is for libtard cucks).

The Ds need to expand the Court if they ever manage to capture the executive and Congress again.

To my eyes, the current Court is on a revenge tour against substantive due process, voting rights, and the old torchbearers like Brennan and TMarshall. It’s become less about being the nation’s high court, and more about regressively rolling back individual rights at the behest of money interests and their own fundamentalist political values. That doesn’t change without expansion, death, or… overthrow I guess.

Will take your word for it.

One thing the last 8 years have confirmed for me is I’m glad I never seriously considered law school.

number one, my grades wouldn’t have put me anywhere desirable.

numero two, the bullshit factor is overwhelming.  I’d have been imprisoned years ago for beating up opposing counsel.

I’m wrapping up school in May.

Your numero two is why I will not be practicing. It is absolutely not what I thought it would be.

I beg to differ.  It will tell us the electoral college is stupid.  Trump will lose the popular vote by millions.

Yep. It all comes down to a handful of districts in a handful of states.
