I will say allowing this to play out in a thread is pretty shitty though. There is nothing positive for Derka that comes out of the slow burn. If you wanted to ban him, the best thing would have just been to ban him. Everyone knows his issues and this just feels like imma kicking him in the nuts a few times on the way out the door as he was never going quietly. He should have banned for some period, let things calm down, and then discuss whether he was coming back.

After reading this, I completely agree. The thread as run its course and is not a goodbye thread. Time to do what you need to do Imma but letting this linger through Monday isnt right. And delete the thread after please. No reason to keep it running either.

  2. Never in a million years would I think Blacklab's name was Bob. I always assumed he would be like a James or a Caleb.

My insignificant contribution to this thread is Derka, put Motown on ignore. Jesus. You arent a child. Take a step back and look at the reality you have created for yourself with this situation. Its stupid and childish. I like having you here on this site even though I dont think you and I have ever interacted with each other. I view you posting here as part of the fabric of Surly and assumed most everything was a tongue and cheek back and forth between you and the other posters. Immamac, I personally wouldnt ban him but you have to do what you have to do. Derka, Motown and Imma all need to take a step back and reassess this as it has gone WAY too far and looks stupid to most everyone else here. Anyway, whatever. The Days of our Surly Lives.

This shit makes me furious. Gotta run up debt during the GFC? Understandable. Gotta run it up during Covid? Yes. (You can argue amounts being excessive, etc.)

But during the good times, you better be making changes to pay it back. Not continuing to spend like crazy and cutting taxes. I'd argue that 2010-2020 were good times and 2022-Today are good times. Instead, we just keep going.

When the next black swan hits, we going to run that shit to 200% of GDP?

Every single Congressman knows if they are the ones to usher in some austerity/balance the budget, they will never be re-elected. And the American public is too stupid to see any further than their next paycheck.

There is only 1 solution. Congressional budget limits must be set by an independent committee, IE the fed. Congress can spend it however they wish but the Fed tells them what the limit is per year.

What’s a Raid Leader (World of Warcraft) and should you hire them?

    https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/whats-raid-leader-should-you-hire-them-peter-clarke/?trackingId=t%2B5cwCdJSIuZXir5uVxpBQ%3D%3D

“When I applied for my first job back in 2008, the skills required to get my foot in the professional world's door were vastly different from what is needed today.

I was applying to a local MGA in my hometown for a role that I later called a CSO role (Chief Scanning Officer), with a side role of 1 Sugar No Milk duties. The main skills required and developed were scanning policy documents and spotting empty coffee cups. We would receive the documents via Fax and Royal Mail from our brokers, and it was my job to scan them in and file them accordingly in our sophisticated Microsoft filing system.

We were at a point where going "paperless" was the main innovation happening in the market, and the fact that the Underwriters could access the pdf version of documents in a searchable format from their computer was revolutionary.

Fourteen years on, and I am now the one hiring young market entrants. The thought of setting them a task such as scanning seems not only belittling to them but also baffling, let alone the thought of trying to explain what a fax is and why it is useful.

The market has, without a doubt, progressed from those days (although paperless is still beyond the reach of some companies). With this progress comes the need for new skills and a different type of CV to what I pulled together all those years ago.

Being captain of the rugby team and on the debating society were considered great extra-curricular activities to mention, they still are—however, the thought of putting down my Zelda or Golden Eye gaming skills would have been laughable.

While I am in no shape or form a 'Gamer' myself, I am more and more admiring the skills of those who play these games and what they can bring to the professional world.

Being able to network online and successfully perform collaborative tasks while never having had face-to-face contact, develops skills that are not only more relevant but will be invaluable to organisations going forward as we adopt a more digital way of working and networking.

After a recent conversation with a young professional who happens to be a "Raid Leader" in World of Warcraft, I'll share some of what I found fascinating about the skills that they have developed and that I desperately want in my team.

To start with, I will explain what World of Warcraft and a Raid Leader actually is as I had no idea until a couple of months ago, and I am sure the majority of my audience are the same. World of Warcraft is an MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game), which I am sure means as much to you as it did to me. This acronym really means that it's an online game with lots of people interacting in a continuous world.

What are they doing? They are trying to improve their in-game character by completing collaborative tasks in exchange for rewards and the chance to take on more challenging collaborative tasks. There is plenty more going on, apparently, but that is the gist of it. Raid Leaders are the people who manage and coordinate the teams performing these collaborative tasks.

Managing a rugby team seems like a piece of cake compared to what these raid leaders are achieving. As a further bit of background, Raid Leaders organise and guide around 25 people from all over the world through collaborative tasks, where they all work together with distinct roles and responsibilities to take down large-scale encounters (bosses)…”

I was a raid leader in WoW for a Mythic guild for about 10 years. This is all true. I developed some wonderful managerial skills that I have used and continue to use on a daily basis. I have been a pharmacy director managing upward of 20 people both in person and remote. Every time I look at a resume I hope to see something like this. I would be intrigued. But they better not lie about it because I will call that shit out in 1 question.

Thanks for sharing this interesting thread! Speaking of fun activities, have you ever tried playing the Freaky Tiki online slot game ( https://www.fortunecoins.com/info/freaky-tiki-online-slot-game) on Fortunecoins? 6. What helped me the day and night before was rubbing aquaphor or Vaseline right on my butthole a few times throughout the day. Also after the first couple shits, ONLY blott your asshole, stop wiping. The no eating part was bad but not nearly as bad as I thought.  Get some chicken stock.

My only issue was around 3 am where I was in and out of sleep and thought to myself, it's just going to be a toot. It was not just a toot so there was a change and a sheet wash. Other than that, the prep wasn't the worst thing in the world.  Still not a great day, but it was manageable and not nearly as bad as I was led to believe.

Procedure is a nothing burger. I have to go every 5 years due to family history but so far so good.

Oops. Kinda bad timing on my part.

    Sorry The Hangover GIF

The pic was funny, in and of itself, but the timing was so incredibly bad I can't stop laughing.

Of course everything turns on its head now that she has cancer, esp being so young and with 3 young kids. But don't lose too much sleep over the pic. Your last 2 posts are peak surly. Most of us know it's all good.

  8. Last night, my family went to see the Dallas Symphony orchestra and John Williams 'Night at the Movies.' For the E.T. score, apparently after Spielberg gave John the final cut of the movie so he could lay the music over it, John became frustrated because of the various changes through out the editing process and he couldnt get the music to fit with what was happening on screen. Spielberg pulled him aside and said to get the music exactly the way he wanted it and give it to him. Then Spielberg recut the movie to fit John Williams score.

  9. Home insurance premium increased exactly 75% for me this year. I am not exaggerating. This is unheard of. I have no claims on the house. Is everyone else getting the same? I am in the DFW area. @C-Man Is this what you are seeing? Am I getting fucked in the ass for Florida Louisiana and California company losses? Farmers told me insurance premiums are based on the state only, not nationally.

  10. We are in the process of redoing our grass. Our St Augustine just cant handle year after year of the drought and 60+ days of 100+ temps without constant watering which I refuse to do for both conservation and monetary reasons.

I live in the DFW area. I want to use a seeded grass and want to water once a week. Which seeded grass can we use? What is the best way to plant it?
