Another disappointing casting. Not a single native Texan chef and only one transplant. Texas is loaded with diverse top level chefs that are making cutting edge cuisine. I’d rather see local or regional chefs with a mix of outsiders wherever they are.

Instead we will get the usual lectures through the show about the evils of Texas, and then they will depart for some other place rather quickly like they did on the previous Texas show.

The show has never made an attempt to feature a bunch of local chefs as contestants. It has nothing to do with Texas.

As someone who enjoys the admittedly largely mediocre and repetitive books, that looks fucking terrible.

I was very wrong. That was a solid, fun watch.

  3. the shooting is not justified in the sense that the police should not have executed the no-knock warrant.  they should not have created that situation.
but the *moment* of the shooting was justified.  i.e., they were not shooting a sleeping person, or unarmed person, or mistaking a tv remote for a gun, etc.
not a meaningless distinction.  (in the culture war of police hunting people etc etc etc)
as a whole, the police were unequivocally at-fault.

Even if they had a proper warrant to search that place, it was still not justified. The deceased had the right to exercise self defense against who he reasonably-perceived as home intruders. As the instigators, the officers do not have the right to exercise self-defense.

  4. It was nice to see Akbar’s pitiful performance being the one that sent them home after what an asshole he’s been to his wife over how she’s performed each week.

I’ve mostly liked Ryan and Dusty so far but Dusty was obnoxious as shit this week.

I've thought that many times.  They just introduce a chokepoint by making people order at the counter.  There has to be a reason they did it that way, though.  Maybe it's another level of complexity or cost to have the Alamo model?  Or worried they wouldn't have the waitstaff to handle ordering, running food, closing tabs, etc.

I talked to a Loro employee about why they don't have digital ordering and she said they need the chokepoint of ordering at the counter to slow things down or the kitchen would never be able to keep up.

  6. I’m wondering if Akbar is too heavy for the rope and harness stuff because that’s the only way it makes sense that his wife did the road block and that she’s apparently bungee jumping or something in the preview for next week.

  7. sang chi, black widow, and eternals. Lol.

It might be end of days for superhero flicks. Or at least we maybe finding the boundary of super hero films.
if this boundary solidifies, maybe they’ll go back to making more original movies.

or hollywood would double down and just keep rebooting the big names - iron man, capn america, wolverine.

Those three were as good or better than much of the MCU lineup like the first two Thor movies, the Iron Man sequels, the Ant Man movies, Age of Ultron, and The Incredible Hulk.
  8. At least the youtubers seemed to know how to drive a stick shift, based on what CBS showed anyway.  I still can't believe the contestants don't learn that before going on the show.  Although, in fairness, and having rented a car in New Zealand with a manual, getting used to shifting with my left hand while also driving on the other side of the road was headache inducing, and I had had cars for years with stick shifts.

Yeah, I usually shit on people for not learning to drive stick before going on the show (although I’m honestly not sure how easy it is to learn these days - I don’t think I know anyone who currently has one that I could practice on) but I’m not sure I could do it with my left hand, particularly while also trying to focus on driving on the left side of the road.
  9. I started to wonder if some of the teams would not survive the COVID hiatus and that is clearly the case. Not very surprising for Caro and Ray because they were newly dating long distance and already had some drama. I’m curious about the other 3 dropouts though, especially Anthony and Spencer who seem like they would make it back.

    Reddit lists these reasons, fwiw…

Caro and Ray - split up (shocker)
Connie and Sam - new baby at home
Anthony and Spencer - one of them is injured?
Isaiah and Taylor - no info

I’m looking forward to figuring out who the replacements will be. I thought from Phil’s teaser that it would be prior TAR contestants, but it could also simply be the 2 eliminated teams from this season. I personally think teams from a previous season would be more interesting than seeing 2 fairly weak teams get reinstated.

I’m sure there was a vaccination requirement to come back so I wonder if that eliminated either of those last two teams.
  10. Mrs., Mrs., Mrs., Mr.! There's a lot of Lindsays!
    Covid impact:
    Spoiler

So I read a bit about how they had to adjust post-Covid. As mentioned, they finished three legs before the shutdown and then a 7 month delay. Two of the teams weren't able to return when they resumed. When they do start up again, the whole thing will be in Western Europe until they return to US. They used a charter jet for all flights so there is no airline/airport drama. However, they did change the way the flight portions operate and teams will get a staggered start at each landing depending on how they finished at the departure point. No catching up in the air. Should all make for an interesting season.

Unfortunately it’s been like 10+ seasons since there was airline/airport drama because they started pre-booking travel to save money.

Normalized ?  That ship sailed 200 years ago. Guns, and hunting have been a part of our culture since it's inception.  Making them boogie men, and some horrible thing is the problem.  Being scared of firearms is a horrible way to go thru life.

Being so scared you think you need a firearm is a horrible way to go thru life.
