I avoid 2021-08-26, or 08/26/21. I work with many non-US people. To avoid the confusion about whether “08/12” means august 12 or December 8, I always just abbreviate the month. So a typical file name will be “surly diatribe nnm comments 26Aug21.”
60% of the time, it works every time.

Yeah, until you're sorting by file name, and all of the sudden 26Aug21 is right below 25Apr19 when you're looking for 21Aug21. yyyy-mm-dd to rule them all when it comes to file names.

    For file names:
Project What Is It LIVE FILE
Project What Is It ARCHIVED yyyy-mm-dd

For folder names, start with the date:
         yyyy-mm-dd TOPIC

Yes I and others have put a LOT of thought into it. I have indoctrinated the team in my office and they appreciate the naming conventions etc. It really makes life easier when you're looking for something.

When people save files with the date in the name.  Totally pointless, redundant and confusing.

Yes and no. It's confusing when it's a live file that you're still editing. No if you're archiving the file.

At work, I've trained my team that at any time, there should only be ONE LIVE FILE, e.g. Bunny Ranch Budget LIVE FILE.

Every few days, we'll archive the file, and rename it Bunny Ranch Budget ARCHIVED yyyy-mm-dd

What makes me ragey is if someone outside of my team grabs the file from box, and makes a copy called ... LIVE FILE mm/dd. Makes me want to reach through the ether and throttle the idiot.

Lol. Dude takes a shot at the peacemaker, gets laid out, then gets robbed while he’s sleeping.

Not sure if CT scans were a thing back then, because smacking your head on the ground like that is a good way to die.

A few years ago, my dad was crossing the street and got clipped by a moped. It spun him around and he hit his head. At first he said everything was okay, but my mom insisted he go to the hospital. They did a CT scan and he was on the OR table within the hour. They had to cut open part of his skull, drain the blood and remove any clots or he would've been dead.

Next time you feel like throwing down, put on a helmet or make sure one of your bros is there to catch you.

  4. I WISH I had a i7-36xx chip in my rig. Keep it, swap out the hard drive for a SSD, and add RAM if possible and definitely update to Windows 10. I think it's still free to update.

I'm rocking an 10 year old i7-2600 Dell. With the consult of some people this board, I swapped out the HD for a SSD and increased RAM to 8GB to 16GB. Now it runs as smooth as butter. Boots up quicker and seems faster than my work HP laptop (HPs are shit BTW). I can still run some first person shooter games on it.

There are still Republicans in California?  Well I’ll be damned.

You should visit Bakersfield, hang out a bit. Or Orange Co

Depends on which part of Orange County. Katie Porter represents my district and I'm okay with that.

At a decent or upscale restaurant and when you a order a drink (be it booze, beer, wine, iced tea, water, whatever) and the waiter / waitress comes back to the table with your quaff in their greasy paw.

Have some class and put the drink on a serving tray (doesn’t have to be fancy) and then serve the drink to the customer instead of just handing someone a drink.  This isn’t the ballpark or frat party.

Reminds me of a joke...  A customer orders the soup. When the waiter brings it, the customer notices the waiter had his thumb in the soup.

Customer: "Excuse me, your thumb was in my soup".

Waiter: "It's okay, it wasn't that hot."

  7. Thanks for the feedback.

My brother-in-law says he has friends who bought into timeshares. They compared it to owning a boat - enjoyed it for a few years, and couldn't wait for the day to get rid of it.

I'll go disappoint my wife now. She loves expensive vacations. I'd rather just go camping or find a cheap Marriott and go hiking everyday.

  8. Let's get back to the OP. A time traveler from 2714 is using... Tik Tok?

They have the technology to send someone back, but chooses to use a platform where people share dance videos of themselves to announce this?

    Color me skeptical.

On a tangential note... in The Tomorrow War, they have the technology to send people back and forth through time, but are still using small caliber machine guns against armored aliens? I would have expected something like a plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

He'll go as low as he needs to.  The only upside in the race to be the most maga is that he's killing a higher percentage of his own base.

    And I’m okay with that.

  10. Anyone do it?

Wife and I just sat through a presentation where they flashed a bunch of numbers and asked us to decide today because it’s on a special, one day only, OMG chance of a lifetime.

We walked away because I don’t like to be pressured, and plus I’m sure there will always be these one day specials if we change our mind.

Numbers seem good but I’m gonna throw them into a spreadsheet to see if it makes sense.

Also wanted to get y’alls’ opinion and experience. Much appreciate any input.

I never have enough cases. I'm always on the lookout for stray gig bags. But the cheap ones all suck these days.

I got one of these (FE620) a few years ago. It's about $50 and padded in all the right places. It fits my Tele like a glove, but I need to stretch it a bit to fit my S500.

Yeah, CA's system seems to be pretty good.  For example, I got my Pfizer (COVID, not Viagra) at one of the public supervax sites, in my case at a Cal State Campus.  I get my health insurance through Kaiser.  I was surprised to see that the vax is on my medical record on the Kaiser app, and I didn't tell anybody at Kaiser.

Think about it… does Kaiser know if you got a flu shot at work? I think not.

They only know because the chip inside of you already told them.

  13. The elevator buttons that light up the wrong color…

There are 2 buttons in the elevator lobbies, the top (white) button would light up if you wanted to go up; the bottom button (red) if you wanted to go down.

They did a major elevator service a few years ago. Now on the first floor lobby, and I want to go up, the button lights up red.

Totally trivial but it bugs me to no end.

  14. But does anyone have trouble keeping their butthole clean?

It doesn't matter if I wipe and wipe and wipe, then hit it with a couple of wet wipes if there are available. When I get home, inevitably I have to do a "safety" wipe to remove the mud slathered in my crack.
