Charbonnet seems like he's a great prospect. What's the deal with Habibi-Likio?

Short yardage/goal line guy.  Pretty good in those roles.  Never shown much outside of that but that may have been how the Ducks used him

Jordan Whitington down in Cuero would like a word.  If not far south enough, the Detmer brothers did ok with their Heisman, National championship and other records.  Steve Mongo McMichael would agree but his pro bowl and Super bowl rings can't let him.   And last but not least one of our own posters Willie Mack Garza i think was pretty ok.

the all caps was meant to convey sarcasm...  That said, a decent player every 5-10 years isnt a great return on your recruiting focus

He’s never coached inside LBs. He’s primarily coached DL and coached OLBs at Bama, which was pretty much a DE coach.

per TFB, PK can coach anywhere on the front 7.  If we're worried about Tosh at ILB, move him to OLB and put PK inside

    He seems good.

Sark listed as one of his recruiters and looks like Bama finished 2nd fwiw.

Almost certainly heading back to the west coast.  Rumors of homesickness (although McDonald's may have been involved).  Started following all the Cal coaches recently and would get 200 tackles in that O.  30 mins from home too.  We'll see.

I'd imagine he's at least prodding Washington about their DC job, he has history there

He also got busted at UW for giving recruits cash in a coffee cup (while working for Sark)... I dont think UW is an option for Tosh

Heard a radio interview from one of the TFB guys yesterday, he said the word was that Kwiatkowski can coach anywhere on the front 7.  Take that for what you will

That's what one would think based on Wikipedia and 247 research, but Washington boards seem to think he was a shit coach on the field as well. I guess we'll see if Kwiak brings him over, or if he gets promoted. If he's stuck as their LB coach, then maybe we have our answer

I would disagree.  He was a solid/good DC at Cal and has had a pretty solid career at Boise and Washington.  If you havent figured it out, UW fans have a vocal population of delusional posters whose grip on reality is pretty tenuous.  Every school has this but UW's are at the forefront so make a lot of noise.

Washington's LB coach and guy who Coach K (have we decided what we're calling him on Texas boards yet?) brought with him from Boise State to Washington, Bob Gregory, makes a lot of sense as the final hire from Wikipedia research; he has a ton of LB experience with some DC time sprinkled in, so presumably he should be a great teacher and even help with scheming and system implementation.

But if you browse Washington boards, they almost universally hate the guy, even as just a position coach. I'm not sure if he's a fanbase scapegoat or if he actually does suck, but it does raise at least a small sense of alarm for me.

There does seem to be a small chance that he gets promoted to DC anyway though.

Considering Nansen seems to be the west coast version of Mike Stoops, hopefully Sark does the wise choice and passes on hiring his old wing man.

Gregory is a good position coach who allegedly helps a ton with game planning.  He has the personality of a squid and isnt much of a recruiter.

good hire if we want coaching.  Shit hire if we want recruiting

UW fans seem to be a-okay with losing Gregory, unlike the loss of PK, should both happen. I know of Kwiatkowski, but very little about Gregory.

You obviously know there is nothing official about any assistant yet. I’ve been wondering if the delay in announcing the staff is related to the job posting rules. If so, it seems like that expires any day now. I know the HC role is exempt from that rule but maybe assistants are not.

Bob Gregory is a very experienced coach, former DC at Cal (you knew it was coming...) under Tedford.  Mellow, quiet, not much of a recruiter but a very good positional coach

Yeah that "currently has a really good job" line makes me think it is NOT Tim Deyruter. Maybe I need to change my guess. Obviously it is subjective and maybe TFB just has a very positive outlook on the world but I consider Cal a third tier program in a conference that hasn't sniffed consistent relevance in a decade. I wouldn't call that a really good gig. Compared to like fucking UNT sure but in a general sense? Nah. Even if you disagree about Cal's stature, Deruyter is currently in a somewhat awkward position as his HC Wilcox seems to be increasingly favoring Sirmon as his right hand guy instead.

I asked on one of the Cal paywall sites and they haven’t heard any whispers about DeRuyter doing anything but coming back to Cal.  They’re going to poke a few people to see if there is anything there but if it’s him, it’s been super quiet

my brain: This will probably be something thoroughly underwhelming like DeRuyter....   Surly discussed him a lot but insiders really haven't so I tend to think he would qualify. Cal defense is entirely run by their HC Wilcox and this would be a C-tier hire at best but if this mystery thing isn't bullshit that is my blind guess.

my heart: WE GIVING VENABLES 4M A YEAR  LETS GOOOO BRING ON THAT TINY TROLL FACED FUCK

Wilcox doesn’t run the Cal defense... He’s got input but DeRuyter was the play caller til this shortened shit storm of a season.  Sirmon calls the plays now.  Cal is running DeRuyters contract down cause Wilcox’s bestie Sirmon came to town and Sirmon can actually recruit.

DeRuyter is a good game day DC who has actually shown he can make adjustments at halftime.  He doesn’t recruit much but if all Texas needs is a DC for a year or two to call plays and keep things competent?  DeRuyter wouldn’t be bad.  Won’t recruit for shit and is definitely a step below the names mentioned in terms of flash but Texas would be solid defensively... turning Cal’s D around after the heaping steaming pile of shit that Sonny Dykes left is no small feat
