  1. On the topic of an oligarch not making a play because of their attachment to Vova.
Not so fast my friend. Is it likely? No. But it’s definitely possible.
There are many things in the last few weeks that informed folk thought were unlikely, that have come to pass.
History is full of friends, colleagues, elected officials, leaders, et al turning on each other during turbulent times.

Never underestimate another human’s ability to survive, their greed or their opportunism.
As the saying goes, all is fair in love and war.
Cue Kevin Garnett… anything is possible.

  2. The messaging on this should be Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Separate the soldiers, people of Russia and the oligarchs from this action.
Get the Russian people and oligarchs to see this what it is and to turn on him.
Will also put a dent in the resolve of the Russian soldiers.

IMHO oligarchs will make a play when they see the writing on the wall and see what they are up against.

  3. If it the RTS Index falls under 500, it wouldn’t be a shock if one of the oligarchs plucks an ambitious general and throws him a $50M bone. Or whatever amount to motivate him, along with some of the cut.

And yes, I am aware of the monetary nest egg/war chest that exists.

There is a tipping point where the economics take over and the oligarchs make a move in their best interest. Will they get there? Not sure, but it’s possible. I don’t see them going down with Putin “on principle.”
Sometimes you gotta cut a unstable drama queen off. Amirite?

I apologized and deleted. I don't play any games so got me and original posting was a usually good source

    Sorry again.

There is a lot of disinformation and fabricated videos out there right now, so no hay problema.

It can happen to anyone. Someone upthread asked about a Daily Mail Putin video translation of speech to the oligarchs.
Mongo just a pawn in the game of life, but didn’t pass my smell test. And I had never heard that speech mentioned in the last 24.

What is the Putin calculus for the n'th phase of this thing?  They'll get some petro revenue from a limited number of importers and what?  His country is going to be crippled.  The people are going to turn

Your guess is as good as mine, my good sir. Predicting the maneuvers of a sociopath is not my strength.
Switzerland has already agreed not to be a work around.

If and/or when Russia gets locked out of SWIFT, that could lead to some internal unrest, as their economy will be severely crippled for years.

There's no hind sight analysis going on. I posted it on various forums 8 years ago when this was first happening. You think I should have been posting on surly all about it any time since then? People would have told me to get the fuck out of here with my weird obsessions.

I think what my man @FartingMonk, if I may, is trying to convey is that that there are folk on here that have been discussing this and gaming it out for weeks, if not longer.
Some work professionally in the space tangentially, some directly.
There are folks that nailed some moves and almost everyone had something wrong guessed.

It is intriguing to me how there are new posters into this thread, as it’s always a positive for citizens to know what’s going on geopolitically.

Just spitballing here, but your posts may come across as I told y’all so and borderline arrogant. A mi, no importa.
I never understand people’s obsession with “I was right,” mentality. Maybe some folk want that on their tombstone.

Whether people saw all this coming or didn’t, doesn’t make a rat’s ass.

We all lost on this one. And so did humanity.

He's turning 70 so I don't know if he is hitting that stage in live where he is thinking about that legacy bucket list. Where he sees himself as a savior for restoring some of that Soviet glory before he figures out a final succession plan. It does not make any sense to be so bold at this point. All it does is make them a pariah and unifies the EU (and most of the world) against them.  They will be stuck with a lengthy and costly occupation for a piece of territory that does not have significant economic or strategic value. It seems that they had better chance of following their subterfuge tactics to discredit Zelensky, getting someone more pro-Russian elected and then continuing to work on splintering the EU/NATO support. For someone who has been very savvy it seems a bit irrational and some clear miscalculation of the political blowback. Just concerned what his actions will be as he continues to paint himself into this corner.

Using logic to understand illogical behavior may be challenging. That’s why the behavior is illogical.
He’s a small man. Literally and figuratively.
Twenty plus years at the helm and literally no legacy.
