Lattimore has a lot of offensive game but is still figuring things out.
She's very smooth with the ball in her hands and off the bounce. I bet she's really good next season.

TCU has been taking shots to the head all game. Matharu was elbowed in the face a couple times.
That's why she was so energized in the 1st half.

That’s a concussion
That looked bad. It has to be a concussion the way she was acting.

You saw the future of Texas WBB at the end of this half.
Harmon (FR)
Matharu (JR)
Holle (So)
Moore (FR)
Lattimore (FR)
Scary.

I'm not surprised by this. This is like a NCAA play in game for TCU.
If they didn't show up for this game something would be really wrong.

So we want teams that won't be in the NCAA tournament?
I laughed but there will still be lots teams in the NCAA tournament that fit at at least two of those categories. First team that comes to mind is Illinois. They're 155th in TO% and 133rd in defensive free throw rate. So they turn the ball over a lot and foul a good bit.
That's a Sweet 16 or beyond caliber team.
It's interesting based on this discussion because they have one of the best bigs in the country in Cockburn. But I would consider Illinois to be a great match up for Texas.
-
In terms of match ups I would say we want
1) Teams that turn the ball over as that's probably our biggest strength as a team. I.e. forcing turnovers. It also helps us score.
2) Teams that foul. Sometimes we have a tough time getting to the line and we are a good FT shooting team.
3) Teams that aren't super athletic. This gets back to the point above about all those long and athletic Tech guards/wings.

now, here's the first, and most glaring thought that comes to my mind when we talk about Texas in the tourney: we have got to avoid teams with great size. watching Tennessee play Auburn and Kentucky recently has me in full Mack Brown mode. the thought of facing either of those teams, and any teams like them, just scares you to death. I don't think that we have any answer for guys like Kessler, Jabari Smith, or Tshiebwe.
This is an interesting discussion. A team like Tech scares me more than a team with a good big.
To me, the long and athletic guards/wings are a worse match up than a team with a legit big. I think Beard has always played small at the 5 and knows how to solve that problem in other ways.
It's the "size" at guard/wing that can just completely disrupt our guards from doing anything on the offensive end that scares me.

Obvious that Askew and Febres helped pick up minutes for Brock being thrown out of today's game. Wish Disu was more dependable because only 5 minutes is terrible. Would like for Ramey's minutes to be a little less -- concerned he might be wearing down. AJ is probably a 25-30min player. CARR needs to stay out of foul trouble and play at least 30min per game.
Not having Mitchell really is hurting rotations -- would like for Timmy and Bishop to get a couple more breaks during the game.
Today's Game vs West Virginia
Min FG 3PT Reb Ast Pts Courtney Ramey 35 1-4 0-1 5 0 8 Jase Febres 21 5-6 4-5 1 1 14 Devin Askew 25 2-3 1-2 3 2 5 Timmy Allen 36 7-9 0-0 10 3 26 Avery Benson 0 0-0 0-0 0 0 0 Cole Bott 0 0-0 0-0 0 0 0 Marcus Carr 17 6-6 1-1 1 0 15 Christian Bishop 32 1-1 0-0 4 1 3 Gavin Perryman 0 0-0 0-0 0 0 0 Andrew Jones 25 3-11 2-7 3 2 9 Tristen Licon 0 0-0 0-0 0 0 0 Tre Mitchell 0 0-0 0-0 0 0 0 Dylan Disu 5 1-1 0-0 0 0 2 Brock Cunningham 4 0-0 0-0 1 1 0 I would still like Mitchell on the roster but guys like Bishop and Allen don't need more rest. Your best players have to play 30+ minutes at this time of the year.

not according to that picture you posted he doesn't.
not that joe lunardi's opinion means all that much.
Yeah, I edited. We're still the last top 4 seed.
Bracket matrix currently has us as a 5 but I don't think a lot of the brackets have been updated. I think Texas will be a 4 seed in bracket matrix after Sunday when most of the brackets are updated.
-
Lunardi has Texas as a top 4 seed still

I think with Disu it's also just learning how to play in this system.
It took all of non-conference play for Bishop to figure things out and start playing at this level.
-
Moving forward what does everyone think the minutes distribution should look like?
The only thing I've kind of settled on is Allen and Bishop need to be playing huge minutes. 30 minutes a night. I guess you could maybe throw Carr in this group but there are times when other guards are better than him.
I dunno, outside of Allen and Bishop it kind of seems like a roster you just get a feel for in the game on how many minutes everyone plays.
-
Also of note, that Tennessee win is turning into a huge win for Texas.
It was already a good win of course but it's even looking better than I thought.

winning either of the next two would certainly lock up a 4 seed i would think.
Yeah. I think just one more win might get the job done including the Big 12 tournament.
On a neutral court, beating anybody in the Big 12 quarters would be a decent to good win.

Beating Baylor would almost certainly lock up a 4 seed I would think.

How do y'all think Ramey played today ??
(Had a quiet 8pts, and surprising 5 rebounds)
Not good offensively but Ramey is the one that has to chase around the opposing team's best player.
He was chasing around McNeil and Sherman all game.

He’s awesome, like seriously he’s such a huge protection for Timmy on the glass and his rim protection has been way better than I thought he was capable of.
Yeah, I think Bishop is probably our 2nd best player on the roster after Allen. You could probably make an argument he's been our best player for a month.
-
Texas is now 7-1 when Bishop plays 25+ minutes.

and that 50% FT shooter hitting like 90%.
I texted a buddy of mine telling him to watch Osabuohien shoot FTs in this one because he's one of the worst FT shooters I've ever seen. I saw him air ball 3 FTs in a single game this year.
So of course the dude comes out and makes 9/10 from the FT line.

Is it possible for me to appreciate Febres hitting 3s today with Brock DQ'd and still not be all that excited when he gets a bunch of minutes? I'm glad he's on the roster. Not as happy when he's actually on the court. Nothing personal against Febres. It's not like I dislike the kid. I just see him as the weakest link.
I think it says a lot about certain players still being locked in.
Febres could have easily quit on this team the way his season has gone.
-
Osabuohein who I've seen air ball multiple FTs and shot 40% from the FT line coming into today went 8/9.
When he was making FTs I thought for sure Texas was losing this one.

-
In all seriousness, Febres finding a way to hit a few 3s would really help this team.
Anybody that can hit some open 3s would be huge for this team. I'm just hoping this wasn't one of Febres random games where he goes off and that this remains consistent. We don't need him to hit 5 a game but 2 a night would be significant for this team.
-
That was a very weird game. WV hit shots they wouldn't hit if this game was played 100 more times.

Keep your cool and don't throw a punch. TCU is begging for a fight in this game because they're getting embarrassed.
