My wife bought me the box set for Christmas about 10 years ago.  My then 15-yo daughter hijacked it and watched the whole set in about 5 days.  She later named her first car Cicily.

Ed Chigliak and Marilyn were my favorite regular characters.

The last season really sucked, IMO.  I don't think I've ever watched the finale.

I used to always go fishing near Roslyn, WA before the show started, so it was always weird to see the Roslyn Cafe mural every show.

I lived nearby too. Made an evening XC ski run on the old coal trail to the Brick and happened upon their prime rib night. I also made it to the town movie theater whenever I could which is located in a renovated funeral home, I believe.

  2. Is toxic 2024’s new broad brush criticism for things we don’t like? I’ll agree woke was getting pretty worn. I still don’t get drip and refuse to assimilate that one into the lexicon. Trying to keep up.

  3. I have a 12+ hour layover in Toronto Sunday. Is there anything nearish the airport that merits having to go through airport lines to get back in?

That tracks with the Iowan's who showed to specifically to vote with Trump, nothing else.  These are the people out of reach for Democratic votes not matter the situation.  Good news, the numbers directly show they are shrinking, and shrinking pretty significantly.  It would be far more troubling if suddenly 250k people showed up and it polled that way, but that isn't what happened, they are down by a full 1/3.

How much was turnout hampered by weather?

  5. Exit poll has 65% of Rs agreeing that Joe Biden’s election was stolen, mas o menos. I just don’t see how the country survives that sort of cultish irrationality for so many. Please, prove me wrong!

    you do you.

this guy isn't the typical grifter.  he's really mentally ill.

The fates of mentally ill like Donald Trump, Ashley Babbitt, and Mike Lindell who so eagerly usurp democracy with their own brand of tyranny do not stir compassion in me. If that’s a flaw, I’ll own it.

Better than Cascade Canyon in the Tetons?

because ima need to check it out if so!

I can’t attest to that as I haven’t visited the Tetons. Google pics of Upper Enchantments and see how it rates..

Heads up: Upper Enchantments are heavily permitted for overnight stays. Permit lotteries open Feb 15 for the upcoming season through recreation.gov. I was fortunate to win the lottery twice and do backpacking trips with my daughter and some of my friends. Upper Enchantments were still open for day hikes without permits but require good fitness. One of the two routes into the Uppers (Aasgard Pass) climbs 2000ft in 3/4 of a mile. Needless to say, I’ve opted for the other route through Snow Lake.

I hope they're crying today in stupid Leavenworth, Washington.

Last summer, which we visited that fake, bizarrely kitschy, German-styled alpine town. It's a cross between Disneyland's, "It's a Small World" and Twin Peaks, with Blue Velvet thrown in for freak-show effect. All the poor store staff and food servers are forced to wear lederhosen, haha. Unlike Fredericksburg, there is no direct German tie-in. It was a marketing decision made in the 60's to make the town a German tourist attraction. The mountains are pretty, though.

I hope they set up a big screen in the weird town center for the championship game, and drank their sorrows away with their bad German beer.

The Upper Enchantments hike near Leavenworth is most beautiful I’ve ever witnessed. After 5 days on the trail, that German food and beer hit the spot, genuine or not.

I think this is the most succinct and easy way to understand what we have become.  Not how, necessarily, but what.

Politics used to be somewhat "reasonable".  Like when you see those charts showing how Congress would reach across the aisle all the time and now it happens pretty much never.

Now, it's people still trying to be reasonable vs batshit insanity.  And somehow these are seen as two sides deserving of equal time and consideration.

It’s identity politics in a time when everything is politicized and propaganda is delivered to your phone. PS one side is very bad and supports a would-be despot who undermines democracy. This idea rubs me the wrong way too, but in this case is true, thus the folly of bothsides.
