IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Sunday's matchup with the Wildcats will mark the third time the Longhorns have played on ESPN this season which is tied for the most in country with Louisville. UT's other appearances on the network's flagship station have come in a 61-56 victory at No. 3 Stanford (Nov.14) and a 74-70 overtime loss at No. 16 Tennessee.

MATHARU MANIA: Junior transfer Aliyah Matharu continues to turn heads in her first season on The 40 Acres. The Washington D.C. native leads the team in scoring averaging 15.8 points per game. She also ranks No.4 in the Big 12 and in three-point field goal percentage shooting it at a 44.7 percent clip.

HARMON HITS: Freshman point guard Rori Harmon continues post some impressive numbers in her first season in the Burnt Orange and White. The Houston native enters play leading the Big 12 in assists per game at 6.1 which is good for No.10 in the NCAA and No.2 among NCAA division I freshman. She also leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio (3.21) which ranks No.11 nationally and No.1 among all freshman.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Arizona has picked up right where they left off in 2020-21 as they've followed up their National Championship appearance with a 10-0 start to the season. The Wildcats are coming off an 82-55 victory over Northern Arizona on Friday. Much like Longhorns, Arizona is known for their stifling defense and full court pressure. On the 3-seed line in today’s bracketology. I’d say a win over Arizona on Sunday would bump us into the 2-seed convo.

Princeton is a next four out team currently. Still won’t be an easy game.

A long way to go but would really like to get those next two games on the road. Worried we may be rusty after a week off but maybe we'll get Moore and King-Hawea back.

  3. Nice if expected win.

Harmon typical good game, didn’t do her assist to turnover stats any good (3/3) but another solid performance from the freshman.

Warren with 4 steals and kept her cabeza off the hardwood, I was expecting her to miss 30% of the season but I’m far more optimistic about her playing the full year now.

Really glad to get Hunter back, scored 11 points but she and Matharu both shot 4-12 so not great.

It does seem Chevalier’s presence is not missed that much with Matharu, Hunter and JAT all capable of bringing the ball up with the added advantage of some strong offensive potential from the point guard position. Makes us harder to guard.

Like TexasStrong12 says the Harmon, Hunter and Matharu lineup is scary dynamic offensively, that’s two freshmen in the backcourt but you can’t tell by watching them.

With Vic obviously seeing Lattimore as the future he gave her plenty of burn and she responded with 5-6 shooting and 10 boards. She had 3 turnovers but she is coming along nicely, could get extended minutes in a big boy game soon.

Gaston may get game ball with 19 points (9-12) in 22 minutes 7 boards and no turnovers.

Ebo definitely has some skills and she didn’t get much playing time Saturday because this was a Lattimore practice game but I really wish she could get in better shape. As much as Vic has them run it just seems like the girl is fighting some serious genetics or sneaking out for some fries late at night. It definitely limits her ability to stay on the floor and makes us a much slower team overall.

Fun game to watch, some folks don’t like blowouts and want a close game but I love watching everyone get to play and it’s much less stressful.

Should be a game to give everyone experience and work on individual players issues.

Other than the free throw percentage the team stats look dang solid.

Hopefully we will get one or more of our injured players back.

  5. Nyack Warriors

    D2 school

Nyack College has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,184 (fall 2020), with a gender distribution of 46% male students and 54% female students.

    Helllllooo ladies.

The school ranks #106 in New York for highest average GPA. If your high school grades are above the average 2.74 GPA, you have a very good chance of being admitted as Nyack College accepts 98% of all applicants.

Kurtis Blow underwent heart transplant surgery in 2020, so you now are fully informed.

Huge test tonight.  Yuge.  Literally.  5 guys over 6'8" and 4 them play in the main rotation.  Shit, their starting point guard is a legit 6'6".

Yeah, the inside looks like a net negative for us, we can’t come close to matching that size. I’m thinking we will need to turn them over and a few guys shoot well from outside, Ramey, Jones, Carr or Febres.

Jase appears to have good games and then terrible games from three, need good Febres tonight and maybe mix it up and let Mitchell jack a few threes to spread the floor, he is shooting .42% beyond the arc.

Looks like a solid team at their house, they beat the hell out of Nyack, so there’s that.

I went to the game last night. Fun time but I can't imagine how bad their ticket sales are. I was given 2 seats mid court 8 rows up. I think 75% of their club level seating is gonzo.

Primo plays a much, much more mature game than his age justifies. Really impressive iq for the youngest player in the league. He needs reps with the ball in his hands but he's not going to get them with their current backcourt rotation and him stuck in the corner like Bruce Bowen. I hate to say it because he can contribute now, but he needs Austin time to get those opportunities. He's also much bigger than I thought he would be, not only height but he's got a sturdy build.

Really weird times for my beloved Spurs. We need losses to get some good picks but they are close to being a good team. Always hate to see them lose but big picture it’s the best plan.

Glad we got rid of the veterans, loved them all but good to give them a chance for possible end of career glory and we now have a direction other than trying to be an 8th seed in the playoffs.

I wasn’t that high on the Primo pick and have since done a 180. Really excited about him now and I agree, spend the year mostly in Austin but move him up to the big show often to get him a good taste of the NBA.

To save the Spurs first we must destroy them.

3 have already been processed (Chevalier, Coleman and Johnson). Holle is the only Aston recruit remaining.

I hope Holle sticks. She may, being a Westlake girl and her Dad playing for UT. Played 9 minutes each at Tennessee and A&M so Vic has some level of trust in her and she appears to be gaining in value and confidence. Not sure what will happen to her playing time when Hunter and King-Hawea get back.

  9. With already having stud freshman point guard in Rori I would think it would be harder to get another point guard to transfer. I guess Hunter played with Rori the whole time in HS so she didn't have to handle the ball as much. (speculation).

Those two minutes at A&M must have done it. I wish this had been an at the end of the season decision, and she might still remove her name, but like you folks have said it was probably going to happen eventually.

I haven't looked at scholarship numbers for next season but I'm starting to think Chevalier's days are numbered at Texas. She's not getting hardly any minutes and most our guards will be back next season outside of JAT.

2 of Aston's recruits from the '20 class have already been processed. I will say I think Chevalier can be a good player for a smaller school.

    Prophetic.

Sad to hear, we need her for depth. All the Rori love and 2 minutes at A&M must have been discouraging.

Chevalier seems to be averaging about 16-22 minutes in the easy games and much less in the more difficult contests. The two minutes yesterday made me think she was injured but I didn’t hear anything. Still a valuable player if Rori or JAT get in foul trouble. As a sophomore this year she may start exploring her options if Vic continues to keep her numbers low. I don’t know if we have other point guards coming in. (?)

Is there a reason we are showing the Oklahoma Baptist game for the 800th time this week? I mean we have had some good wins on networks owned by ESPN. Last night for example.

Yesterdays game was on the SEC network so they won't show it on LHN. Part of the Big12 SEC challenge. Yeah, I saw they were playing that game to death, they do have other options. I wish they would post the whole A&M game on YouTube but so far only 10 minutes of highlights.

  13. Not sure about Ms Carter.

"STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball forward Jessika Carter is still with the program but is “taking some time away” from the team, interim head coach Doug Novak said Thursday, as she works through “some personal matters.”

Carter was arrested last month on a simple assault charge, stemming from an Aug. 28 incident in which the 6-foot-5 forward allegedly struck another woman in the face, according to a criminal affidavit acquired via a public records request.

Novak said he hopes “to have her back soon.” When asked if he had a more specific timetable for Carter’s return, Novak said, “I don’t. That’s the best I can do at this time.”"

"STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s basketball player Jessika Carter was arrested on a simple assault charge Wednesday, stemming from an incident on Aug. 28 in which Carter allegedly struck another woman in the face, according to a criminal affidavit acquired through a public records request.

According to the affidavit, which was sworn to the Justice Court of Oktibbeha County on Sept. 2, Carter hit Mississippi State student Angel Williams, causing the woman’s nose to bleed while also giving her a black eye. Williams alleges that Carter snuck up behind her before hitting Williams in the face.

In a phone interview with the Clarion Ledger, Williams echoed the affidavit, before explaining she and Carter “had some stuff going on that happened six months ago.”

“We just had a miscommunication about something,” said Williams, a 19-year-old sophomore. “And after that, she just stopped liking me.”

  14. JAT and Warren both with 30+ minutes and 4 points apiece, not their game offensively.  That turnover differential is unreal, especially against a ranked opponent in their house, however our free throw percentage is poor, 58% for the game and 64% for the year. Get that up in the 80s and get our three girls back and we’ll be running with the big dogs.

    Really happy with this team.

I don't think Ebo will get many minutes once the roster is healthy.

It's hard to run full court press with her because of how slow she is.

“But Schaefer said Ebo needs improved conditioning to run the court. When a team publicist brought Ebo to the post-game press conference Shaefer waved her away. No players were permitted to speak to the media.”

    Why no players?

Schaefer did ask to address the Jackson State players after the game.

Vic said no target date for the return of Moore, Hunter and King-Hawea. (ankle, ankle, foot) Did not expect them back for A&M

    Bugger.
