Looks to me like New Orleans saves some money this year and Washington gets two expiring contracts.  CJ and Olynk are both expiring while Poole and Bey both have 2 years left.  Washington should have a lot of cap space next summer.  If that even means anything anymore.

The Wiz are clearing the decks most likely to take on other bad contracts and accumulate picks from teams that are at or above the apron next summer. Let's see how that works out for the Nets this summer. All those guys in the front office in Washington came from OKC, I believe. This is Sam Presti team building 101. They may be able to turn Olynyk and CJ into more picks as well at the deadline. They can both help contenders. The Wiz front office had the misfortune of starting out with Bradley Beal and his no trade contract that they turned into dogshit while Presti had Paul George that he turned into SGA and every Clippers pick possible.

FYI.... this is the guy who is given a lot of credit for developing Giannis. Solid move for the Spurs and nice to see them go outside the family for help.

With Haliburton out for season (probable), I wouldn't be surprised if the pacers punt on resigning Turner. Why go over the 2nd apron for a team without championship hopes?

He was for lack of a better word atrocious against OKC in basically every facet of the game

He shot it horribly from three,  but he played great defense and hit a ton of mid range shots. He's also their only true big. They need a lot more size up front, even if they do re-sign him. He's also their longest tenured player and seemingly critical to their culture. I would not be surprised if they get him on a team friendly deal.

One thing about the Haliburton injury... they got lucky as hell that they traded out their 2025 pick for the return of their 2026 pick. There's no way the Pelicans make that same deal today.

  5. That Pacers team is going down as probably my all time favorite non-Spurs team ever. Just an incredible group, fun as hell to root for and played so many gutsy clutch entertaining games. Absolutely heartbreaking to see it end like that with Haliburton's injury. One of the worst what ifs in recent NBA history. The basketball gods are fickle.

As for OKC, I can't stand them but you've got to respect the way they go about their business. You can tell that those dudes really care about each other and care about winning above everything else. I don't like their style of play, SGA's foul baiting, and they get away with murder on defense, but that's on the refs more than them. NBA officiating has always been controversial and I suppose always will be.

I'm excited for the draft and this off season. There's going to be a lot of crazy shit happen. We've already seen two huge trades go down before the finals even ended. The apron is looming for a lot of different teams.

  6. Great trade for the Rockets. Phoenix still has a lot of work to do both rebalancing their roster and their cap. But whatever they do, they are most likely still going to suck. Horrible franchise management.

  7. Great deal for the rockets. They didn’t have to give back any of the future suns picks. I don’t know what their cap is going to look like after they re-sign KD but getting off of Green is a win. I’ve always loathed Brooks and his contract isn’t that great either. Unless KD breaks down, that’s a no brainier of a trade.

Yeah, Myles Turner shooting 40% from three during the regular season and then going 5/25 (20%) including 3 out of his last 20 during the finals on almost exclusively wide open looks has been bewildering. Game 7 would be a fairly opportune time for him to break out of his slump.

And Chet? Going 2/17 from three is awful too, but he seems to blow a ton of modestly contested layups as well. He's not strong enough to finish in traffic yet.

This is nothing more than the Denver vs OKC series. Tied at 2, Denver blows the game in the 4th qtr of game 5, a game they dominated. Both teams also blow game 4s while up 2-1. Denver goes back home, blows out OKC by 90 and we get the same talk of OKC being young and inexperienced and no killer instinct. OKC then goes back home for a game 7 and the game was over in the 2nd qtr. But just like the Denver series, OKC is allowed to play Indiana the complete opposite of how Indiana can play OKC. Dort and Carruso can play football on defense. Shai and company can foul hunt as free throw merchants. Indiana racks up fouls, completely taking the air out of their sails. Dwayne Wade and James Harden on steroids.

I can see the parallels, but Denver was an older team with zero bench that had played every other day (including another 7 game series) for like two weeks straight. Denver had the lead in game 7 until Jokic sat at the beginning of the second quarter. From that point, it was all down hill. They completely ran out of gas when things started going south and it snowballed on them.

I don't see Indy going out like that. Not with the way everything has gone for them this post season. I think if its tight in the fourth, the refs swallow their whistle and Indy makes enough clutch plays to win. It's probably wish casting, but whatever. Also, Jalen Williams efficiency is key. If he puts up a bad shooting night, then I like the Pacers chances.

Was scanning ESPN's latest draft projection. Apparently the Spurs might use their 14th pick on this chick. At least she's tall.

    image.png.68577dbb63b6392cef150fce5debe482.png

She’s tall, athletic, and coordinated but doesn’t seem that good at actually playing basketball. I’d be upset if the spurs got her. Rather them take a chance on a long wing or god forbid someone who could knock down an open three.

  11. I started to put this in the regular season thread but it's time to put last year in the rear view mirror. They lucked into #2 in the lotto and if they don't take Harper and do some stupid shit instead, I'm going to lose my shit.

Biggest needs: outside shooting and outside shooting, size and muscle on the front line, and more vets who have been there done that.

I could take or leave KD. I have faith that they won't overpay for him. If it's Vassell, Barnes and 14 plus some second rounders, fine. I'd honestly be more upset about losing Barnes than Vassell. Barnes was fantastic last year. But they can't trade Sochan in the package. Not because I think that he's ever going to become a reliable shooter or even competent, but look at the west over the next 5 years and they need someone who can match up defensively one on one against guys like SGA and Jalen Williams at OKC and Luka in LA and Ant in Minnesota. Between Sochan and Castle, they have two very, very good on ball perimeter defenders. I think Harper can be a plus defender too. Fox isn't a shut down guy, but he's capable enough that he's not going to get hunted every possession.

I'll have some more thoughts on the draft in the next few days. If they don't move 14 (and my hunch is that they will for a similar package they got for Dillingham last year), I'd like them to target Rasheer Fleming or Cedric Coward. If Queen were to fall that far down, then he'd be my favorite but I don't think he lasts that long. I haven't seen enough of Essengue, Collin Murray-Boyles, or Asa Newell to have an opinion. I see Carter Bryant mocked to them a bit, but his shooting makes me nervous. Same thing about Demin, but I like his upside a bit more than Bryant's as a creator. But I'm not sure they need more shot creation with Harper assumingly coming on board. Sorber's injury scares me.

I think this is going to be a wild ass off season. Too many owners will look around, see that the league has had 7 different champions in 7 years, see how the Pacers made the finals, and say, "why not us?" I'm expecting the Spurs to not get caught up in the frenzy and stay the course. There's going to be a lot of action and nobody outside of Brooklyn has real cap to play with.  Teams are trying to avoid the apron penalties like the plague. At the end of the summer, there are going to be some bargains and good deals to be had. There are just too many dumb owners/GMs and bad contracts out there. So I hope they're patient with whatever they do. I also hope they hire some veteran coaches to put around Mitch.

Is Desmond Bane worth all that? Is he actually good? Dude just screams Bradley Beal to me.*

*not that that's not a nice player to have, so long as he isn't on a supermax contract with a no-trade clause

No. 4 frp for Bane is ridiculous, especially since one of them is a swap for 2026 with Washington and Phoenix who should both be lottery bound next year. Unless I’m reading that incorrectly. And his big contract kicks in this year. I haven’t looked at Orlando’s cap situation but they have to be moving into apron territory with the extension they have Wagner.

And Memphis I guess is clearing cap for JJJ extension? Accumulating resources for a big move? Weird move for a team trying to compete but that’s a huge haul for Bane.
