Zach Collins really fucked us. He looked like he was maybe salvaging his career for a minute there, but completely disappeared this year and now we're left with Charles Bassey. Hopefully by next year we're done cleaning up the shit mess we made from extending Collins last year.

Oh, and Vassell.......... the clock is ticking. It's the all-star break and people are still making excuses that you were injured to start the year. That you haven't found your rhythm yet. 3 months is not "rhythm" territory.

On one hand yes... Collins was a disappointment considering what he flashed after he first got healthy. On the other, his cruddy contract turned out to be needed in the Fox trade. He was a roll of the dice to begin with. They clearly have a need for at least two more bigs. Wemby is too slight to fight the heavier players and Bassey can't stay healthy / isn't that great or big enough to begin with. They need some bruisers just for matchup purposes.

I think the clock is ticking on Vassell. He's getting more and more easy looks now that Castle is there and he's just not hitting them. His defense has regressed too. He's a way bigger disappointment to me than Collins. And don't get me started on Keldon...

And the gobert trade was before the CBA came out

That's fair but if Gobert had a good contract in the first place, they would have been able to offload him instead of KAT. It's a no brainer to keep KAT over Rudy, but they would have had to send assets out to get rid of Gobert, which is ironic because the reason they don't have any assets is because they traded all of them for Gobert in the first place.

we didnt give up on him...you just cant have 2 supermax deals on a team and expect to fill the rest out without being second apron'd

product of drafting first overall  and *gasp*the players ends up being pretty good at bball and makes all nba.  IDK, maybe its me but the whole second apron should have some leniency against teams that draft their players and have a little relief vs the second apron vs outright fucking them

They would still have KAT if they never made the Gobert trade. That’s the contract that killed them.

  4. Siakam wanted out of Toronto regardless I believe, and he ended up with a bigger contract than Ingram. 4 years/ $190 million vs. 3 years / $120 million. Ingram was eligible for 4 years / $208 million. Good for NOLA to not pay him that.

I don't think it's a horrible signing by Toronto in a vacuum, but it behooves most franchises in the NBA to pick a lane -- contend or you tank. They are going to be a treadmill team for the foreseeable future.

  5. ESPN incessantly slobbing the Lakers knob last night was just fucking brutal. It was like a two hour plus commercial for Laker exceptionalism. The announcers were giddy with the idea that it was somehow destiny that the Lakers end up with another generational talent to build around. They were still incredulous that anybody could be so stupid to trade a 25 year old who is a top 5 player in the world. Like, "Can you believe what the Lakers just fell into? There's Rob Pelinka.... the guy who magically made it happen. He must have the world's largest rabbit foot up his ass! Isn't this great!"

I don't even like Luka or the Mavs and it made me want to puke. I can't imagine what you Dallas fans are going through. Those fuckers were due for another post-Kobe style walk through the desert in Lebron's twilight years and we were robbed of that.

And I want to hate Luka for all this... but it's not his fault. It's not like he asked for this. He still looks as shell shocked as the rest of us that he's playing with Lebron. Jesus, what a colossal unforced fuck up this whole thing is. How does this shit happen in 2025?

The icing on the cake is when kyrie turns down his player option next year to sign the MLE with the Lakers to make a last dance run with Luka and Bron.

Yeah because Kyrie is all about self sacrifice for the sake of winning. There’s a million times better chance he holds the Mavs hostage for the max now that he’s got leverage. They’re going to be paying him Chinese money until he’s 40 years old.

If you were power rating the league right now, how would you rank the top 10?  I think I'd go:

    1. OKC

    2. Boston

    3. Cleveland

    4. NY Knicks

    5. LA Lakers

    6. Denver

    7. Minnesota

    8. Houston

    9. Memphis

    10. Milwaukee

    1. OKC
    2. Cleveland
    3. Boston
    4. Memphis
    5. Denver
    6. New York
    7. Houston
    8. Clippers
    9. Pacers/Bucks/Lakers

I think Memphis is a bitch right now. JJJ is playing out of his mind. They are deep and can beat you in different ways.

I might have the Knicks too low. I just don't trust their bench and how much burn their starters get. I still give Denver a slight edge because Jokic.

The Clips have played almost all of the season without Kawhi. They are probably a little better than their record.

I want to see what the Lakers look like defensively post-AD. I don't think it's going to be pretty.

I think we will learn a lot about Minnesota by the end of the month. Schedule is Portland (who has been red hot), at Cleveland, Milwaukee, OKC, All star break, at Houston, OKC, at OKC, and at Lakers.

[Charania] The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Marcus Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards in a multi-team trade that sends two second-round picks to Memphis, sources tell ESPN. Memphis creates roster flexibility with the move.

Memphis traded two firsts to get him and another to get rid of him. I would criticize them but they are absolute witches at finding value rotation players out of nowhere.

This makes the Hawks worse, right?

    masturbation celebratory GIF

Yeah... I'm trying to make sense of this myself.

The Hawks, who don't control their own pick this year (or for the next two years), just made themselves worse in the short term to save a few bucks down the road. All in order to add some second round picks plus two swaps in 2026 and 2028 that are actually swaps on swaps with Cleveland/Utah for the Donovan Mitchell trade. Maybe they can reroute Niang or they have something else brewing, but that is a shit move. I'm not complaining as the Spurs own their pick, but what in the blue fuck are they doing? Am I missing something?

The thing about getting a guy like Fox is that yeah you get a starter that goes 37 mins like he did tonight - but that's also 37 less minutes replacement level guys have to play.

Champagne, KJ and Barnes combined for 70 minutes tonight - instead of those 3 plus Tre Jones playing 107 total (that's not a perfect example but you get the point).

Shit like that matters in the NBA where everything swings at the fringes. You have a guy shoot .390 from 3 on the season instead of .360 you may win 2-3 more games.

We aren't a finished product - there are still moves to be made and the head coach thing is still less than optimal but getting Fox was a huge step in the right direction.

    GSG.

For sure. Adding a front line player like Fox moves everybody down a notch for playing time. Your 8th guy is now your 9th guy. The other thing that it does is hopefully move Vassell in the pecking order on offense so he doesn't have to create so much for himself. Granted, he put up a reeking 2-9 from three last night, but he was otherwise 7-9 from two because he's getting easier looks. Fox should make the game easier for him.

I watched Keldon on defense tonight and was shocked at how he consistently loses his man. How can you be this bad? He also went 1 on 3 which was impressive. He did not make it.

The Keldon regression is tough to watch. He was a 40% 3 pt shooter four years ago on a terrible team getting terrible looks. He's wide ass open now and can't throw it in the ocean. What the hell happened to him? And his defense, as mentioned, is abhorrent. Can't stay in front of anybody and has zero awareness or concept of team defense. My hope for him early in his career was undersized 4 like Paul Millsap, but he's just a massive tweener right now without a role. He's got to be considered a negative asset at this point. Great guy, but he's a net negative on the court right now.

  11. I don't really understand the Charlotte end of trading Mark Williams. They are in deep rebuilding mode and he's a young (albeit often injured) asset that should grow with them and be part of their long term core. Those Lakers picks, assuming that Luka is going to be there long term, are not likely going to be great.

Are they also secretly trying to move to Las Vegas?
