My wife and I really wanted to see Kevin Morby open so we were there around 7:45. Morby went on at 8. I think he's doing the Houston show too. He only played for half an hour and was off the stage at 8:30.

I was let down by Morby. I wanted to hear Dorothy. I grade each band I see. He ranks as a “no” for future shows.

Lord Huron show was pretty spectacular.

I enjoyed the show but as I watched it I was thinking “how do I describe this to my wife?” She always asks me about the concerts.

Two adjectives came to mind: theatrical and pretentious.

A few songs later, the lead singer calls himself a pretentious asshole. Points for self awareness.

They put a lot of work into the concept and execution of their show. It is a show.

I can highly recommend Dr.  Bruce Sherrill at Dental Associates of North Dallas.  Best dentist I have ever had.

Per the googles, Dr Sherrill has retired.

    Got any other recommendations?

I took a fall when I was 2-3 years old that did damage to my front teeth.

I have veneers on my front teeth and a cap on one adjacent tooth from decades ago. One of my veneers chipped off recently. I want to go full in and do a whitening of all my teeth but the cap and veneers present a matching problem. It’s time for a full redo.

I went to one place, and they quoted $10k. They did 3D imaging, and said I needed a root canal on the tooth beneath my cap. That’s quite possible. That’s do-able but I feel like a second opinion is in order.

I've never been to a Waffle House, but there is one pretty close by.

I'm going to go ASAP to see if I can get my score up.  (I'm supposed to get waffle with PEE-cans in it, correct?)

That, and maybe a half-hour fishing extravaganza at one of the fine tributaries to White Rock Lake.

Definitely go noodling for alligator gar in the trinity

just be like me and keep moving around a space constantly dancing, waving my arms and hammering drinks... If you can survive the headliner surge, you can keep a decent amount of space.

    Solid strategy

Thought this was a pretty interesting podcast about losing touch with red america.

The PBS questionnaire in the link is hilarious. It’s a “you might be a redneck” checklist. To be clear, I scored fairly high; I have lived in oklahoma and arkansas.

    A sampling.

    What? No Springer?

Disappointed there wasn’t one of these.

brmc at mohawk saturday night. was on the floor and it was far too sweaty for an october night. they played all of howl and 5 or 6 other songs. i saw them at the parish 20 years ago when they originally toured for howl. it's not an album i listen to much, had forgotten how emo it is. it got a bit too whiney for me a couple times, was happy when they got to the rock portion of the show.

I was there, and it was uncomfortably packed. They needed a venue twice that size. I’m not one to get claustrophobic but that set up was bad.

I enjoyed the opening band (humanist) a lot.

  8. The Stews brought it last night.

They closed the show with “9-5” and transitioned in and out of “War pigs”.

They do have an annoying following though. Groups of college kids chattering, getting hammered, and losing all sense of self-awareness.

Checking back in on this thread for the first time in a long time. Best readily-available chicken I've found in Dallas, I think, is Mike's Chicken. The OG spot was in an coin-op laundromat on Maple near Old Parkland but now they've expanded into their own space and added a second location.

I haven’t heard of Mike’s. There’s one on forest that I pass by when I head down to deep ellum on concert nights. This gives me a good reason to drop in and try them out.

to me the perfect song is one that you could swear had been written before; as if the melody has always been part of our DNA whether we realize it or not. Two came to mind.

    One is a great choice.

Interestingly enough, I remember the La’s being interviewed when “There she goes” was released, and they hated the recording because they felt it didn’t capture the energy of their live performance.

For universal like-ability, a message of positivity and hope resonates with everyone. Iz’s voice and the simplicity of “somewhere over the rainbow” delivers.

May I interject.  A bottle of Bolgheri, a filet, new earbuds, annd high as a kite, and some college football on the OLED,  I am listening to this glorious song on my said new Bose earbuds.  Listen carefully to the groove and the detail.  Allman-style southern rock/blues, relevant topic, and most of Toto behind him.  Fucking bliss.

    Earl is living life right.

As I read this, my playlist served up

    It’s Friday; it’s reggae

What I wish I was listening to is a good live recording of the 41 songs Sturgill did a Red Rock

Not sure if it’s a good recording but it’ll do for me tonight while I’m making orange chicken and drinking.
