My daughter has been in the Adventure Princess program since she was in 2nd grade. Her "besties" from school are also in the program, so I hang out with the dads at camps and around the neighborhood.

@closetohumping If you aren't already in it, check out https://orangespiritnation.org/  I think there are some "tribes" out of Irvine as well.

3rd grade is perfect age to join. There's a campout this weekend at Irvine Regional Park and too late to sign up. But the next campout is next month. Plenty of time to sign up.

Do you ahve to have a daughter to join?

Vail/Beaver Creek is great if you want to look outside, see I-70 and hear the semis driving by at all hours of the day and night.

Breckenridge is my personal favorite.   Lots of hiking in/near town with side trips over towards Keystone and/or Leadville.  Besides the Breck Brewery, there is also Broken Compass and the Breckenridge Distillery.   There is a great bike ride down Vail pass that the (semi)-adventurous can do plus a short train ride back up I-70 in Georgetown.   The Breck Fun Park is a good one but not ideal for 1 or 2 year olds.

Leadville is a good place to explore but I don't know that I would stay over there.

Can't hear the semis from I-70 in a 8 bedroom house you rent overlooking the Vail Golf Club.  If you settle for a Four Seasons non mountain view room then yes, you will have that.

Lived in Raleigh for two years (1992-1994).  Great town and metro area.  Went back in 2016 for work, and remarked at all of the growth (not surprising given my 22 year absence).  I've said that it's a prettier and more charming version of urban sprawl than Dallas.  But for all the reasons you cite, I think it would still be a great place to live.

As someone who lives in this area that is an accurate description.  Chapel Hill is nice though.

  4. I feel like the final move on the board is an SEC and BIG10 agreement in which they pay the football and maybe basketball players and crown a champion outside the NCAA framework (basically they leave NCAA for football).  This creates an NFL lite that would sell. Players can transfer end of season no restrictions once in their career so small budget schools can get guys that can’t crack the huddle at a Texas or Ohio State after a year or two.

  5. The only time I ever got annoyed by the POS system was at DKR stadium in north end zone bar.  The girl selected the 25%.  I selected 0% and signed as "fuck u" on the bill.  Preselecting something and trying to scam people is a little shady.

  6. This circuit is brutal.  I rode it a few years ago in the morning before the Tour rolls through.  The road has a crown on it so it is a tricky uphill that you can't really tell on TV.  Good on Tadej to try and take it.

I’ll eat the crow on that one.  I didn’t expect Jonas to come out and blow him away.

Yea I didn't expect it either.  For Jonas to pick up that much time when Tadej had a great ride is wild.  He was flying through the opening corners so I applaud the tenacity to go for it.

  8. Perfect profile for either MVDP or Wout as they are neither pure climbers or sprinters.  I just don't get trying to make the move late.  I get that smaller teams won't work with them if they get in the early stuff and just let the deck reshuffle.

The top is so narrow no one is allowed up there. Even the team cars. They built a tramway up there and narrowed the road.  It's the reason the race hasn't been there since 88. I was surprised they pulled it off again tbh.

If you think the Tour is good you should watch the rest of the calender. Classics, Giro, so many great races.

Not to mention MVDP and Wout van Aert along with Tom Pidcock racing cyclocross in the winter as clear favorites.
