  1. Wow, the Balcones is strong today. UTSA came back and got to UT pitching to the tune of three wins in three games. They could not do that against UCLA yesterday. It’s not difficult to see that UCLA’s pitching was better.
  2. Or, hear me out on this, UCLA pitching was significantly better than UT pitching (and I actually spoke with a coach, this beating UT is bigger than UCLA is simply not true). They have the chance to go to Omaha, they aren’t basking in their UT dominance, they can’t afford to.
  3. Yep. I wonder if some on this board realize they are taking the Balcones point of view now that he is gone.
  4. Yeah…no. There was very little from UTSA during the week about Texas. They have bigger fish to fry, mainly, getting their administration to provide them facilities. I saw three interviews from Coach Hallmark this week and that was the focus, not UT. They don’t think that way. The first two innings of the game last night they were incredibly aggressive and punched UCLA in the face, not what a team happy to be there would have done. UCLA’s pitching was better, which isn’t surprising because that is one of UTSA’s weaker areas as they lost their best pitcher last year to Texas. Just because they lost or lose, doesn’t mean they were going through the motions and happy to be there. The more you know Coach Hallmark, the more you will see that was not part of it.
  5. It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.
  6. If you are interested, PBS has been running season 2 of Marie Antoinette.
  7. So, when you go to the big tournaments, you see this quite a bit. USA Prime, among others, has a bunch of local and regional teams, but they will cobble together a “National” team for the biggies. As a result, there are some stacked rosters at those events that aren’t continuous teams.
  8. I tell people whenever it comes up that the OKC Memorial is as good as any memorial they could see in DC. It is truly moving.
  9. Johnny Bravo for the W. “We need someone to fill the suit, man.”
  10. In talking with most people, that seems to be the stereotype. But, I tell those that ask that even at Ivys, first priority is “Can you play?” Then, “can we get you in?” Then, “are you willing to come here vs more traditional schools?” Ivys have much more talent than people think. Sports gets the vast majority of the athletes into Ivys that would not have been able to get in on academics alone.
  11. Ivy League example from a close friend: Harvard about 7-8 years ago, highly touted DL comes in (4* I think). Goes through the motions of the first hour of practice and hangs them up. Got into Harvard and he was done with athletics. According to our friend, the guy was not gifted intellectually (in fact, he was one of the least intelligent kids he had ever met). But, played the game, just not the game of football.
  12. There is obviously a lot to this. There is really only one sport now that is tied to high school, and that is football. All of the other sports are much more oriented to club/summer as that is when the college coaches have time to recruit. High school sports are mostly a step down in competition and organization from high level club. Without being attached to a well known club, it will be very difficult to get noticed and recruited. Our experience was with our son, who is a freshman in college. He plays 2 sports in D1. First, you will know if they really want to play or not. With my son, there was never a doubt he felt differently about it than others. He was truly focused. There is nothing wrong with just playing to have fun, but that gets flushed out very quickly college. Basically, the kid will most likely show you their path. You have to really want to play in college because it is a structured grind. All that said, athletics is one of the greatest ways to get into a school you most likely would not have gotten into. It truly opens up a myriad of opportunities. Happy to share more if it helps.
  13. Damn. All outs were K’s? Did you have to wake up any of your fielders? That’s awesome.
  14. I have posted on here previously about the “recruiting experts” and what they do, say, and don’t do. Thankfully, most coaches go deeper than the recruiting sites, as the sites only concentrate on the top tier and most rosters are predominantly not top tier. It’s a good racket if you can get it.
  15. 10.4 100m, 21.6 200m, and 24’4” LJ. These were one year ago as a SR. Redshirting this year in football and track so we will see what he puts up next spring.
  16. Shhhh….so is Lil’ Nigel (and he can run D1 Track too). And my knock is on the recruiting services, not the kids.
  17. So, for reference, WR, Mike Brown, is .7 seconds slower in the 100m, 3 seconds slower in the 200m, and jumps 2’ shorter in the LJ than Lil’ Nigel. Same size. Kid is rated a 3-star and is going to A&M. Recruiting cracks me up. Yeah, I’m a little Surly this evening.
  18. If it makes you feel any better, that was the equipment bus. The team flies.
  19. I feel the same way as I did with football. Expanding to over 100k worked when we had plenty of empties at 76k. Build it, and the average will most likely increase. Being in the SEC will raise the numbers.
  20. @hornian was nice enough to provide us with a couple tickets for Friday and Saturday. Our family went back and forth between those seats and our LSU provided seats. Our closest friends in Houston and Lil’ Nigel’s teammate for 10 years, is LSU’s new closer. So, Hornian’s seats provided a safe space for UT fandom. I have seen some speculation on here about pitching tomorrow. Shores does not inspire certain confidence among the LSU faithful yet. Evans, does not know what the plans are for him as of post game last night. His parents and the Tufnel Family think he will pitch, but don’t know what his pitch count would be. I will add, that was my first game in a few years and with LSU there, for the first time, Disch Faulk felt too small. It needs to expand to ~10k.
  21. Thoughts after going to the game. LSU just looks a little better all the way around. They are about 2-3 years ahead of UT, which makes perfect sense. UT has a stud freshman, LSU has a better stud freshman. UT has a good lefty Friday starter, LSU has a better lefty Friday starter and on and on. But, UT can win if they play well. LSU’s lead off LF, Derek Curiel, is a freshman and man is he good already. He was one of, if not the top player coming out of HS and looks every bit of it. He stands out already.
  22. Whitting has pics of someone over there.
  23. I have not been there in a couple of years, but on TV it shows stands with chair backed seats behind home plate. Certainly not a stadium yet.
