with your age you should definitely remember Tech in 08

Good call, davi. Tech 08 is not forgotten. Indeed, a catastrophic loss, one of the biggest chokes (Gideon dropped INT and defense on last drive) in UT history. Right up there with yesterday.

65-13....0-12 with VY and THIS is the game you thought was the biggest choke? Lol

Terrible and embarrassing losses, for sure. But, those were not "chokes" (in the typical meaning of the term) as UT was never close to winning those games. Just more Mack/Davis playing scared and conservative.

I'll say it again. 4 shots at the OU 1-yard line is one of the biggest chokes in past 50 years. Playing for the FG and defense collapse just adds to the level of massive choke.

    It is what it is.

  2. Here's the sublimated big fear lurking in these threads:

-- We have Seven-Win Steve, who will lose or choke away 2-3 inexplicable games per year. His record is what it is .. until it isn't. John Mackovic 2.0, Tom Herman 2.0.

-- OU has their Stoops 2.0. I hope not, but OU is winning 10-12 games this year. Already have 6.

We can deny all we want, but that is the ultimate issue after today's choke job.

No other Texas QB in our history completed more passes in a row than Ewers did today. He missed on 2 of his last 27 passes with one of those being a Hail Mary….

And, yet, somehow, Sark can't get one yard with 4 shots from OU 1. And plays for long FG when it was obvious a TD was needed (or at least a first down on 3rd and 9).

That's a Sark world loss. One of the great passing games by a UT QB and we still lose. To f*cking OU of all teams.

im just here for the overreactions

    Here's an overreaction for ya.

Since I was a kid, I have been watching UT football for 50 years (dad was alum and so am I).

The two biggest big game CHOKE jobs in those 50 years have come with Sark vs. OU.

-- blowing an 18 point lead with 17 minutes left in 2021.

-- can't score with 1st down on OU 1 yard line. That's where the game was lost today.

Sark is nice guy with a great story, but he ain't the guy to win national or even conference titles.

Holding was allowed. Just like every year with the rig12 and Oklahoma.

It ends next year thank God.

Why are so many smart people under the delusion SEC refs will be more fair than Big 12?

    They won't be. Geez.

Not even one simple thing like preserving the night sky will be considered.

Agree with your post. That said, there is a great thing that happened in the Big Bend area.

-- The "Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve" was certified last year by the International Dark Sky Association. Largest dark sky reserve in the world, by far! 15,000 square miles of Texas and Mexico.

-- Pioneered by UT's own McDonald Observatory and the Big Bend National Park, along with dark sky enthusiasts in Mexico and other smaller organizations in the area (Big Bend Conservation Alliance).

-- As you can see, the Reserve spans into Mexico, thus providing a totally different model for the Texas-Mexico border. Imagine, an eco-model for the border, protecting the one thing we all share: the night skies, site of humanity's true origins and destiny.

-- The Reserve was absolutely needed because the Observatory would be rendered useless by the light pollution coming from the northeast, as seen in the other image. That's light pollution from the Permian fracking fields, which run 24/7 and the energy companies/workers and 99% pof citizens in the big cities don't give a crap about light pollution. Yep, it is those fracking fields which send billion$ to UT-Austin.,

-- The Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve is truly an incredible accomplishment.

One thing that should change is the way we refer to this catastrophic warming. "Climate change" doesn't at all capture what we're looking at. Climate Cataclysm is far more accurate.

    100% spot-on Roma.

Climate change is FAR too inadequate to describe the destruction being wrought. Climate cataclysm ... climate catastrophe ... eco apocalypse, etc.  And it is not just "global warming."

-- We have plastic inside our bodies, in landfills, lakes, rivers, oceans, and now in the freaking clouds.

-- More than 100 million pieces of space junk are orbiting our planet.

-- SpaceX is launching 40,000 low orbit telecom satellites, which reflect light back to Earth, thus interfering with astronomy and gazing at the Milky Way. While at the UT-McDonald Observatory, I saw some SpaceX satellites launched from California. Cutting right through the night sky. Musk ain't no visionary.

-- Many other firms from around the world are planning on launching tens of thousands of similar low orbit light polluters. Imagine thousands of constellations of satellites marching in all directions across the night skies.

-- We are effecting a 6th extinction event as development invades all eco-systems on Earth.

-- Our civilizational detritus is already turning into fossils. We are transforming all the ecosystems on Earth.

-- Scientists call this a new epoch: The Anthropocene.

    Botton line:

Humanity's cosmic narcissism --- believing we are the center of all value, meaning, and purpose --- is encasing our planet in junk and pollution, all while pretending to be a mighty species. Meanwhile billions still believe an imaginary God has their back and ordained them to trash and rule our tiny speck of a planet and solar system hurtling through the Milky Way at 492,000 mph for billions of years.

Any enlightened ETs would totally avoid our mess. A complete cosmic laughingstock (except for our greatest art and science).

That would be Super Bill daring to swat the ball from Butkus’ hand.

Thanks for catching that. After losing the starting QB job to James Street to run the wishbone, "Super Bill" Bradley converted to DB his senior year and instantly became a Badass DB. My dad said Bradley intercepted 4 passes in 1968 Aggy game. Was also awesome punter. One of the great all-around athletes in UT football history. Played starting DB with Eagles for many years.

To even act like this team is within eye sight of 05 is fuckin nutz, but surly so par for the course.

Nutz indeed. Easily, the most delusional takes I have seen in my 33 years online (as I posted upthread).

Everyone has talked about how stacked the roster for 2005 was v. 2023. Let's look at records and coaching.

For all his maddening flaws, Mack prior to 2005 had seasons of 11-2, 11-2, 10-3, 11-1. Flawed seasons to be sure, but the coach and team were building confidence and learning how to win 11+ games, setting the table for 2005. The coach for the 2023 team has never had a 10-win season nor less than 4-losses in a season. Nothing would more fantastic for long-suffering Horns' fans than for Sark run the table. I hope it happens.

But history says otherwise ... until Sark does otherwise and wins 10+ in a season. Starting in 2001, Mack was 55-8 going into the title game with a 20-game win streak. Currently, Sark is 17-12 with a mighty 4-game streak.

After 13 years in the desert, one would hope there would a huge amount of humility here. But, nope, not here, not with some of these posters. Never a good idea to tempt the football gods. They will mock you.

  10. The GQP cultists who believe Covid/Vaccines are a hoax ... also likely believe the ETs in Mexico are real.

Similarly, those who believe the election was stolen ... also likely believe scientists stole the ETs from Roswell and are hiding them.

It's not certain that our education systems and democracy can overcome all this idiocy this long-term.

It's like scientists, some professors/educators, and a few skeptics against the global systems of TV, Hollywood, Netflix, conspiracy theorists, YouTubers, religious fanatics, and grifters -- all metastasizing like Stage 5 brain cancer on the social media platforms.

  11. If Rome existed in the 21st Century, it would be called America. No CR.

And DKR is a 21st Century Roman Colosseum, battles of tribal conquest, complete with ear-splitting sound, clouds of smoke, and massive electronic/media spectacle. All right in the middle of a Top Shelf research university.

Same with many other stadia spectacles, especially the Super Bowl, as seen in Katy Perry's Halftime Show (below) and many others.

This is where we are in American Rome. Deal with it.

The thread about Texas being a scary team is pure delusion based on the 4 quarters I watched.  We got some turnovers and explosive plays in the 4th quarter to separate from a team that hung with us for 45 minutes.

Yep. Lot of delusion in this thread because of a big win over Bama (a team that is likely good to very good, but not great). No surprise. Kinda like last year after the 49-0 wipeout of OU, followed by three more losses in the rest of the season. After 13 years of bad UT football and crushed hopes, the dream and delusion are understandable. Fans are hungry for a great Texas team.

It's easy to like Sark and his story, but we all know he has yet to have a season with less than four losses. In fact, while at Washington, he had a big win over #3 USC and still managed to go 5-7. Had other big and solid wins (over ranked teams) in seasons at Washington and USC and still never had less than 4 losses.

We all hope he runs the table and wins Big 12 title and national title, but his historical record says some losses are likely coming. I hope not, but the first three quarters of the Wyoming game are a warning right before our eyes ... for something kinda like the TCU game last year. This is the year for the stars to line up for Sark. Barring some key injuries, there are no excuses.

1970: Cotton Speyrer with a 45 yard catch & run for a TD, to take a 20-17 lead over UCLA with 12 seconds left, preserving the  #2 ranked and defending National Champion's 23 game winning streak, paving the way to a 30 game streak and the 1970 National Championship. I remember this day; we were playing football in the front yard, and my friends older brother came flying out of the house, blowing the screen door off the house, jumping and shouting, "We Won!! We Won!!!"

And don't forget Speyrer's other legendary catch in the 1970 Cotton Bowl.

    -- Down 14-17, 2:26 left in 4thQ, 4 and 2 at the Notre Dame 10-yard line.

-- James Street, under heavy pressure, tosses a very low pass to Speyrer, who somehow made a diving catch with an Irish DB on his back, scooping the ball just off the grasstop, at the 2-yard line. Epic clutch pass and catch.

-- Horns score winning TD three plays later. Royal could have played for tie and still have a title, but that was not Royal's M/O.

Pick up the video at 11:24 mark. The reply has best shot of Speyrer's catch.

All it does is telegraph your attempt to justify your former Republicaness

Spot on. But, there is more.

The hidden foundation of the "both sides" (and denialism) posts from conservatives/Republicans in CR.

    "I'm a reasonable Republican, not a Trumper.

"I mean, well, I went to church just like my momma and daddy did. After all, we were a conservative, God-fearing Texas family. I always voted straight R just like my daddy told me. And I loved my daddy.

"My daddy told me Reagan and Falwell were damn good men who were gonna make America great again. It was a new morning in America, like that Reagan TV ad I saw in YouTube.Yeah, I heard Nancy and Reagan consulted astrologists and horoscopes to make stupid policy decisions. So what, I mean, my momma and daddy admired the Reagans. But we were not an anti-science and alt-fact family, even though we did not believe humans evolved from apes. We believe the Bible.

"I voted for W twice, just like my daddy. I mean, W was a damn good Texan and governor. Now some people see the War on Iraq as a massive war crime and blame Bush and Cheney, but I blame it on 9/11 and terrorism. After all, W was a Christian. He was also for small government, but the Ds always kept the budget so huge, wanting health care benefits for all, etc. That's why I sympathized with the Tea Party; we have way too much taxation, not enough representation.

"Sure, I voted for Trump in 2016. To me, I saw a genius capitalist billionaire businessman. Just like Ross Perot. Trump was the best in the biz. After all, he had a cool TV show and he rocked Twitter. I got my UT degree from McCombs and I believe in free market capitalism, just like my daddy. Thus, there was no way to see that Trump was lying fascist and that Christians were taking America backward into what some call a theocracy. No way to see that. I mean the anti-science policies did enable a million Americans to die from Covid. That's kinda nuts. Too bad about Dobbs and women's and LGBTQIA rights and the environment and other issues. After J6, I now see that Trump was a bad apple, not like Reagan and Bush. Once Trump is gone, the GOP will be good again.

"To be honest, I did not vote in 2020. I just could not pull the D lever for Biden. That Hunter laptop is still an issue and Biden's too much big government. I still support less government and more conservatives on the Supreme Court, just like my daddy.

"After all, I am a reasonable Republican."

    Lulz.

Sad that you don’t realize that most cops are Trumpers who will side with the traitors when the shit goes down.

Thank you Brisket. You get it. Damn, reading through this thread, and many others in CR, it just blows my mind the naive trust many posters have in "law enforcement" and the military and the judiciary to shut down a serious MAGA takeover attempt. J6 was a trial run. MAGA already owns the Supreme Court, many federal judges, and Cannon will help Trump as much as she can.

Hell, if almost 50% of voters went for Trump, then you know at least 50% of the following are Trump-MAGA-GQP — the police, US Marshals, Texas Rangers, National Guard, and the military. Among these groups, I'm betting it is more than 60-70% or more, like aggy world. No doubt, some top brass at the Pentagon are MAGA. These groups are not somehow magically outside the cultural forces at play in America.

We ain't living in "Adam 12" America. We're living in "Walker: Fascist Texas Ranger" America. The giant pickup trucks are all you need to know.

  17. Pat Robertson combined television (the new electronic media) with theology—along with the usual hate, fear of communism, and lunatic conspiracy, creationist, and anti-science claims. Thus, the 700 Club was the clear forerunner of MAGA, GQP, and Trump.

Side note on growing up in Texas: As a teen, I recall occasionally turning our family TV to the 700 Club for a few minutes and laughing. Robertson would pray and I would say to my parents: "He's praying and nothin's happenin'. Ha Ha!" My mom, a God-fearing Christian lady thought Robertson was a scammer, like all preachers. She would say: "Shhh ... change the channel." She believed in the Bible, but not the messengers. My dad, an agnostic, just chuckled and shook his head at Robertson.

So lucky that my family did not go to church. Thus, I got to grow up outside the religious brainwashing and became an atheist. Lucky I was!

As for Robertson, he was a morally bankrupt lunatic who did grave danger to America and democracy. We're seeing that danger today.
