For some reason, I thought ol' Ralph had died a while ago. I voted for him in Bush/Gore 2000 since I knew my vote in Texas wouldn't count anyway. I went to a rally in Austin for him where Patti Smith and Jackson Browne played, at the Tony Burger auditorium. It was awesome, in this old school gym, Patti looking homeless but in fine form while Ralph danced like the very whitest of old white guys. Fond memories of that weird event.
Now I will always mentally link Nader with Bob Euker

We got this masterclass explanation in another thread just yesterday:
Jesus H Christ could not garner a 2/3 majority going forward. Not even with Chapelle as his running mate. Only a dictator is going to get 2/3 majority, and that’s not a majority we can clap about.

Bob
You’ve talked me into putting the 12-28 into rotation. Strings are new, so it’s just there. My teacher talked me into retaining the LP, and we’ll start in on that in a month. 0And my old Yairi is in the tv room to pick up whenever (whenever I’m alone in there.). The problem of what to do with those 3, a supposed problem in February, has been resolved.
I found the 12 not as well suited to finger picking, and that was my “strength”. It does, as you say, make the 6 seem easy to navigate. A benefit in itself. We’ll see what I think now. -

Chad is so right. Get a guitar that speaks to you. I’ve played long enough, though not frequently enough, to at least not embarrass myself. I don’t blaze but I have developed “touch” over the years. I know if you beat the shit out of your instrument it will sound bad. Given at least modest touch this damn d12 28 will sing for you. Even just some dinky cowboy chords come alive. Just hit a simple G, let it ring a couple of seconds. Then the C. Then the D. Everyone in the room will say “Damn, that sounds good”. Now they won’t say “you” sound good but even the untrained ear can hear the pitch and timbre. The sustain for ever. Add in the harmonic strings and you have a sweetness, a chorusing effect that, well it just does it for me. Closest I can explain is simple notes played on a pipe organ. Listen to E. Power Biggs play the first 10-12 notes of The Bach Fugue in G minor. The instrument itself. The wind across the pipes. The resonance of the sound box. Regardless of the notes it’s simply a magnificent sound. It hits a spot in the brain that allows you to hear beauty. This Martin does that for me. Simple songs are a pleasure.
NTB,
Tried to sell a 76 d12-28 here a couple months ago when I was able to get back to guitar. Figured at that time I just wouldn’t “mess with” the 12 string. But everything you say is true to my ear as well. It is just so much noise I have to holler rather than sing. Well, there is that matter of touch.
if I break out the 12 I will probably have to play it outside. Why the hell not (props to Kinky F) -
I am one of the guys that did guitar for a couple of years out of college, then maybe every 10 years I’d start over. So, permanent beginner. I did buy a wonderful guitar, Taylor 714 cedar top, 3 years ago, and was starting over yet again, when all things got put on hold for a couple of years. I came out of that with a mission from god regarding guitar, so started with a teacher at 68 yrs old. My teacher is 64. Anyway, 2 of three messages here, and number one is commitment. Real deal commitment. More than anything, you muster up and bring it, all will be ok.
second is yes, get a teacher of some sort so that you are constantly challenged. Some can get this out of books, videos, etc.So the third recommendation, can’t believe I am admitting this, but learning to, or just working at reading music is, in fact far from a waste of time. 2 hours it has taken me to note name and play 7 lines of classical bit some Italian wrote for his kid to study 300 years ago. I feel I’m communing with both, weird.
Yes, work on reading music. Take up some classical.-

Thank you for the civics lesson. Did you bill for that hour?
To think lawyers as a group, with as much money as they generate, and as smart as they all seem to project, couldn’t band together to improve the inefficiencies of the court system, and are at best some pawn in the great game of life is just the chefs kiss.
But maybe I’m wrong, and you are all powerless, just one cog in the great law machine. I’ve definitely never experienced a lawyer using delay tactics to increase my expenses in a civil trial. That’s just part of that unchanging system. You know what, maybe you could find another old post of mine for a pithy reply?
What are there, 20 million attorneys? The percentage of retrograde assholes is no different in any group that size in the society. They can’t band together any more so than the rest of us.

and you know I don't care about outcomes from spinal surgery how (which is a rather broad catchall term and involves more procedures than are available for gender transition)? I didn't care when I had two procedures? care to guess my thoughts on cranial vascular bypass surgery as well? To point out and discuss some of the practice complexities of gender affirming surgery does not equate to being against gender affirming procedures. It's this sort of binary thinking that rather proves the point about the minefield it can be to just even talk about it.
Someone upfield made a statement that no such surgeries were being performed on minors. Somehow pointing out that this is not true, means I harbor some prejudice against the practice. I didn't comment on how often or the volume, just that it happens. Then you get responses to a point I never made, as if stating a fact is the same as condemnation. Incredible and yet, not surprising.
I surely misinterpreted your meaning. Not the only one. Thanks for your clarity.
Yet my point was that concern about regrets, on a population basis, directed at gender affirming surgeries is like swatting a fly on the charging elephants. Misplaced priorities. I don’t now attribute that view to you. I hope your back is better.

Mullet, caring about others, and being proactive in removing harmful cultural obstacles, does not detract from one’s personal professional skill package. It enhances it, you fucking moron. Additional knowledge helps. Try it sometime.

I’m not an MD, and not directly affected by this, but I’ll offer an anecdote regarding spinal surgery. Buddy Tipton, who is a damn good orthopedic and spinal doctor, told me twenty plus years ago that he would strongly prefer not to operate on my spine and discs. He said clinical outcomes for the first five years favored surgery, but after that alternative methods including physical therapy and cortisone shots outperformed surgery in otherwise healthy patients.
I finally did the surgery, twice, once neurological issues started to manifest in the sciatic nerves. But the point is he was not pushing surgery, he was providing the best possible information using his knowledge and the available clinical data.
I have always believed that’s the kind of medical system we want. Cost aside, I think it’s what we have. It should be up to the doctor and patient (and family). I see a lot of other interests trying to get involved here.
Absolutely, more patients regret back surgery than any other (according to my numerous docs and my personal experience). Orders of magnitude greater than the numbers of total gender surgery. Naija don’t care about this much larger population. FO.

Not to derail, but WW2 fucked up a lot of Greatest gen folks. What they had, there in the 50’s, politically, was nearly unprecedented unity. Unity for the majority. So, the gg enforced Jim Crow, got us into Nam, and raised such wonderful boomers as tfg. No gen yet is free of our inherent evils.
