There are a good number of non-Corps members there that would have the same reaction.

    Weirdos.

From the outside looking in, I don't understand how a fight vs a war and a song vs a hymn are really that different in context of background music to a an aggy beatdown. From the inside looking out, they can't explain the difference, either.

I am so thankful that I was of an age when VY came through that I could appreciate his greatness in that moment.  As the Horns continue to wander in the desert (minus the Colt years) his greatness is even more apparent.  Every play was a "must see" as the potential to do something spectacular was ever present.  He elevated the whole team.

One thing about VY (and Colt) that stands out is how they were great from the very beginning. VY's college debut was awesome:

And Colt had an incredible debut too, his second play was a 65 yard TD pass.

My hope is that when Arch eventually gets into a game, whenever it may be, he brings that instant-offense swagger that VY and Colt did.

Mac OS is a derivative of FreeBSD (open source) & 4.4BSD Lite2. Cal Berkeley is no longer involved in BSD development (since 1995)

It's literally called the Berkeley Standard Distribution. It's a cachet and weight you can't buy. Cal Berkeley  has a brand that is impeccable, hence my post. Whether or not they actively maintain BSD, they are pivotal to history. It'd be like saying Silicon Valley has a weak brand because they field no football team, it's idiocy.

I just don't think schools that don't care enough to offer athletic scholarships will suddenly start caring enough to put together lavish NIL deals for their athletes.

The schools don't pay the NIL, the fans do. And I've seen Ivy League dudes spend ridiculous amounts of money on bets on Yale football games. People who go to the Ivy League are ultra competitive and very much view their school's success as their own.

Who cares.  Harvard has a better academic reputation than Stanford. Nobody is trying to add them to the ACC.  The academics don't matter at all.

Actually, it's a huge shame that places like Yale aren't in major conferences. They have a better athletic history than most of the ACC put together.

I love the VY quote before the game when he and lienart were being interviewed when he says "USC don't know how gangsta we are at Texas" and Leinart gets that same pissy stank look on his face. You can tell he never fucking saw it coming.

EDIT: LMAO a thread on some random forum from 2005 about that very quote: https://castefootball.us/threads/we-gangsta.2155/

Nobody there apparently believed in VY lol

edit again: more quotes from VY in the same interview --

"Q: USC is going to have a lot of celebs at the game like Snoop Dogg. Who are you guys going to have on your sideline to compete with that?

A: We'll have (Justin) Blalock, Kasey (Studdard), Rod Wright (and) Aaron Harris. That's the guys. Snoop Dogg and all of those guys are great, but if you get to know the guys that I know, they are a little better than those guys."

    What a badass answer

I do not have direct answers to the questions you asked, but I have known several people who were in the corps at A&M. Of those people, only one actually joined the military after college. That one was in the corps one year, transferred to UT to get a nursing degree (and was in ROTC here), then went into the Navy as an officer. She was in some of those ridiculous corps hazing pics that were on shaggy back in the day.

I have never asked her, but I am sure she could not believe what an absolute bunch of morons the people in the corps/at A&M were. Neither of her parents are from Texas, and she was the first child in her family who went to college. I think she just had no idea what she was in for when she went there.

This woman corps friend of yours, is she very flatulent? I always imagined corps girls were the kind of girls who farted a lot.

  8. Remember when leading up to the 2005 BCS Championship game, ESPN ran a mini series about hypothetically pitting USC up against every national champion in history, including 1969 Texas, and concluded they'd smoke every one of them in blow outs and literally crowned USC the greatest team of all time? That entire shit was the inspiration for Rocky Balboa, the movie, which has ESPN simulating hypothetical boxing matches between the current champ and every previous champion in history, only for Balboa to win.

Fuck I love VY for destroying USC's mystique.

Serious question for those of you have family members/friends with kids at A&M.  How do the real ROTC students in the Corps handle that kinda time management?  I mean, ROTC is a serious commitment, and you're required to carry a more robust courseload.  How do they do that and still dick around with the Corps of Cadets bullshit?

And then, what do the ROTC students in the Corps think of the ones who aren't in ROTC, which is the vast majority of them?

"We're gonna go play spin the jizz jar and run and click our boot heels!"

"Okay, cool.  I've got rifle range for 90 minutes.  Y'all have fun."

that has got to be such a weird dynamic.

I have a brother-in-law who went to A&M but wasn't in the corps. According to him, to the average student at A&M, the corps are embarassing dorks, and the band is even cringier. He once had a band member go off on him because he called it the "fight song" and they got all red in the face about how aggy doesn't have a fight song, they have a "waaaaar hymn" like a bunch of fucking mongs.

Why should the rest of the country give even half a fuck about the Stanford brand when their own fans and alumni don't?

I mean, the stanford (and Cal) brand is pretty fucking incredible in just about everything except football. Their brand is rock solid. Not everything revolves around sports. It's still *COLLEGE* Football, so you know, one of the most successful and important colleges in the world should probably matter to a degree. Switching to talking about Cal specifically, BSD alone is worth more than any football program by far. Literally everything apple makes runs on BSD.

    Is A.I. regarded?

For shits and giggles, I asked which school is better at football, and I got this.

Every statement in the 3rd sentence is wrong, by a lot.

  12. I like how Aggy throws their other Heisman Trophy winner under the bus in that poll. Like, didn't John Caradine or whoever lead aggy to their first win ever at DKR and win a conference title and had a successful NFL career? Why would they thump their chest about Johnny Hitler over that?

  13. Do you fuck with it? I've been using Linux since the late 90's as my primary operating system and I can't believe how good modern Linux desktop is. Even though I mainly work on Linux machines, I've always had to keep around a Windows PC to play games. But within the last couple of years, Linux gaming has finally caught up. I looked around today and for the first time in my life, I realized I had no computers running Windows or Mac OS. I've gotten to the point where I don't even look up compatibility notes online anymore at protondb, I just buy PC games like I did with windows with the expectation they'll run in Linux automatically. Like I bought Baldur's Gate 3 a while back without even checking compatibility, and it totally ran fine. This was unthinkable even 10 years ago. It's also gotten pretty good about Web DRM. Used to be sites like Netflix and Hulu and such used to play very poorly with Linux, even if you were using Firefox or Chrome. But today they all work just fine, exactly as they would in Windows.

What's your history with Linux been? Have you tried it lately? It's in a pretty good place these days.
