I'm surprised Abbott vetoed it but this is a man who is definitely running for President in 2028. Abbott is reading the tea leaves - the Republicans in the Texas Legislature are out of touch with popular opinion on this issue.
Lt Gov Patrick used his typical tactics to get this bill through by bullying and telling House members their bills were DOA in the Senate unless they went along with this. The only bullets he has in his chamber at this point are saying mean things about a really popular Governor.
