You do know alcohol and caffeine are drugs right?  But I suppose you don't drink beer or coffee so you're totally not being hypocritical.

If you were 12, this would be a hot take.

As it is, it's just embarrassing.

Huh?  I'd never end up where I was today if I wasn't able to at least strive for this watch.

    1) is that true?

    2) so?

Is the choice, in your mind, (A) unlimited wealth concentration at the top and (B) no one can have anything nice?

I've also done work with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and I'll guarantee you he's put his money to much better use than the fucking government would have.

That is laughable on its face.

Also in socialism we would work together as a country and to hell with everyone else - those are facts.  The wealthy in this country are able to serve those in third world 'shitholes' as well.

That doesn't make any sense. You're talking about how paying for mosquito nets in nations whose wealth has been systematically exported to the West for centuries are being served by the extreme wealth of the West. You're babbling, my man.

I'll agree on us limiting the discrepancy between the poor and rich however we can but pure socialism and pure capitalism are both completely unrealistic.

OK why are you pounding your chest angrily like a bourgeoise gorilla? lol

The entire basis of evolution is the haves and the have nots...this is what we've evolved into.  There's a reason we sit at the top of the food chain...it's not because we've evolved to be altruistic.  And I'm not saying that like it's a good thing.  I'm all for some forms of socialism but if you completely cut out capitalism we are all fucked.  And since I am the American dream that many of you are bashing as a carrot nobody can achieve, I tend to laugh at those people.  My watch I'm wearing cost twice what the house I was born in was worth.  My group sees literally hundreds of patients a day pro bono.  Socialism and capitalism can coexist.  The problem is the morons on the far left treat the word capitalism like it's rape and the shitheads on the far right do the same to the term socialism.

What if you had a watch that only cost as much as the house you were born in and people didn't have to beg for their lives on a GoFundMe page?

You're right about capitalism and socialism not being entirely antithetical. There can be nuance to the idea of popular ownership of the means of production, and honestly in that nuance there are good conversations to be had.

However, at the base, we have to acknowledge that extreme wealth is profoundly destructive.

The objective data shows a greater balance of left leaning members even without considering the independent/moderate contingent.  Are you retarded or just really, really bad at math?

I can add real good. You somehow left the libertarians out of the right-leaning category. An oversight, I'm sure.

    Right-leaning (identified): 34.29%

    Left-leaning (identified): 25.72%

And also, your feeling that the moderate category leans left is silly.

  5. Oh no they burned a flag let's waste thousands of soldiers' lives and hundreds of billions of our dollars to show how mad we are!!!!!!!!!

I don't think racial or cultural homogeneity is a requirement for such a system to work. I think it makes it easier to establish the system in the first place, because wealthy capitalists use racial/cultural issues to drive a wedge between labor to keep it from organizing effectively.

Now we can get to the part where people argue that even social democracy like in Scandinavia is impractical in this country because, unlike them, we have too many swarthy undesirables.

Thanks, that's well articulated. I agree, if I count Venezuela, I have to count Scandinavia as well amongst socialist states. My main contention is the scale at which those countries have achieved success and that Scandinavian countries and their populations are orders of magnitude smaller than the US. I have trouble seeing how the entitlement programs that have seen so much success there could be translated to a country with 300MM+ people in very diverse (culturally, geographically, etc) settings.

Why do I need to fuck off?

(Since the Venezuela thread is on my mind from earlier today, I'd be interested to hear why people see real world examples of socialism in government (Venezuela), see it fail and fail spectacularly and think "yes, that is what I want here in the States.")

What else do you say to someone who purposefully makes up an argument, shoves it in your mouth, and says, "Defend the argument you didn't make but that I made up for you!"?

Fuck off seems like a pretty good response to me.

Separately, I am fascinated by the socialist responses so far. Since the Venezuela thread is on my mind from earlier today, I'd be interested to hear why people see real world examples of socialism in government (Venezuela), see it fail and fail spectacularly and think "yes, that is what I want here in the States." Why would it succeed here, where it has failed pretty much everywhere else?

You're in a nation where Donald Trump is president and is leading the world in incarcerated citizens and you're worried about Venezuela?

And in your mind the concept of socialism is best typified by Venezuela's current situation?

    Fuck off

BT, the brain truly sees what it wants to see and I believe you are exhibiting this rather pathetic human characteristic in an exemplary fashion.

The university’s lawyers were concerned of legal implications, which only proves the merit of Peterson’s case. They urged him to stop and his job was hanging in the balance, until his support grew to such an extent that the university was painted into a corner. The OHRC does not have the power to fire Peterson.

He had a conversation, if you want to call it that, with Brenda Cossman, not some random lawyer. She used to author reports for the Law Commission of Canada, which counseled the Canadian government on matters of law. So, she knows full well what the OHRC is capable of and, of course, has supported the commission in many public debates. I’m sorry, but if a staunch adversary of mine mentions financial ruin at the hands of the Human Rights Tribunal, which is not an uncommon practice, I’m considering that a very serious threat indeed.

The OHRC commissioner, Renu Mandhane, admitted that the incorrect use of pronouns is discrimination and could get you fined, so Peterson’s assertion of fines is correct. Whether she called him personally or not, the explicit threat was made.

    https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/yes-xer-acts-of-misgendering-considered-discrimination-in-ontario

Who said his job was hanging in the balance?

    From your link:

Mandhane told the Sun that the OHRC “does not require any particular gender-neutral pronoun. If in doubt, ask the person how they wish to be addressed. Use ‘they’ if you don’t know. Or simply use their chosen name.”

    You lie a lot.

The only way Peterson would face consequences, according to this OHRC woman you quoted, was if he purposefully misgendered someone. In which case, I hope he would be fired immediately.

Also, that website is a great source of insane right-wing bullshit.

  11. University warned him.
    He kept talking.
    Nothing happened.

The OHRC never once contacted Peterson in any way.

    You’re a liar.

The University felt it might have legal exposure so they asked an employee to stop a behavior that might expose them to legal jeopardy.

He had a conversation with an attorney that mentions the harshest punishment being financial ruin (~12:40 in), but we don’t know for what exactly and certainly no one actually threatened him with it.

    You’re a liar.

OHRC never contacted him. OHRC never threatened to fine him. No one threatened to fine him. He has a hysterical interpretation of an innocuous law based on his paranoid conspiratorial thinking about CULTURAL MARXISTS! (A term the Nazis invented to slander Jews.)

    You're a liar.
