Bias happens on both sides obviously lol. Currently conservatives dominate the radio with bias and liberals dominate the TV screens with bias.

    lol wut

Personally, I'm not for gun restrictions, but the "old enough to die" argument is silly, IMO.

To you it's silly because (1) they're in the statistical minority and (2) they also lack other liberties. That is a pair of very shitty arguments.

The premise of the gun ownership right is that we need them to defend ourselves and our families, yes? A 20-year-old man in (or out) the military with a wife and kid should or should not be able to buy a pump-action shotgun to protect his family? Yes or no, very simple.

The idea that people want to take away freedoms not because it's a good idea in itself but because it gives the appearance of compromise is disturbing. When it's a blatant "I'll give it up because it doesn't affect me" move then it's just pathetic.

Two people does not = the military.

As for "banning all semi automatics" - so no more semi shotguns for dove season?   No more kids learning to shoot with 10/22's?   No more Glocks?

    Negating veteran voices? #sad

No semi-autos would mean no semi-autos. Why would branding matter?

Tropheus proposed the age restriction. I said I'm willing to compromise. You apparently are not.  You should take it up with her.

Your defense of a ridiculous position is, "Hey I just like to compromise!"? lol

Strengthening NICS actually has the potential to keeps guns out of the hands of people who should not have them. Age limits to a lesser extent, but I don't see a compelling reason for the inconsistency between handguns and long guns. The point about military service is a reasonable one,  but not particularly compelling in light of the age restrictions already in place on handguns and a variety of other activities such as alcohol purchases.

Just got back from basic and can't buy a deer hunting rifle because an older guy decided my fundamental freedoms are an easy sacrifice to align seeming logical incongruities that bother him for some unknowable reason.

This is the problem with having no actual values or beliefs and living only to react to the values and beliefs of others. A walking, breathing middle ground fallacy.

I’d rather not, but you’re gonna have to give more details on that aspect. What size limit, what evidence did you use to arrive at that capacity, how do you handle the millions of standard capacity mags in circulation, what restrictions are you placing on leos? Age and nics are much easier things to come to a compromise solution on, and both actually have the potential to actually impact broader gun violence.

They're much easier things for you to compromise on because they don't affect you. Your position isn't about efficacy, either in the short term or long term, it's about making sure your ox isn't the one getting gored. You're fine with people being old enough to die for the country but not able to enjoy the same freedoms as you when they get back from service? That isn't compromise, that's distraction.

What did the NRA do to make sure people committed of domestic violence (Lautenberg amendment) weren't able to buy guns?  Did they support laws that shared information between states?  Did they support a national database?

    Nothing. No. No.

    The NRA is a disease.

There's no Socratic method.  I try to do three things in an OP:

    1.  Present a story or facts, typically a link to a news article

    2. Pose what I think is the issue

    3. Give my take on the issue.

    You left one out:

    1. Ask questions designed to, once answered, provide an opening for my prepared rant.

Go through your first posts in threads you start. It's like clockwork.

Actually, I suspect the answers to your questions are not as intuitive as you as assuming.

Full auto rifles are very inaccurate.  They are really good at wasting ammo.  They are not so great at hitting targets.

m16 3-round burst is there for a reason, yep

The image of John Rambo accurately spraying down crowds with a SAW is silly, yes. Of course, controlling it with a bipod is not as silly.

So you want to ban the vast majority of handguns and revolvers too because they are semiauto?

Sure. (Also, I think we should ban ALL handguns. No citizens or police with handguns. Everyone with long guns only.)

I know guns well enough to understand what aspects of their function are genuinely useful to mass killers and which are not. What matters more than anything is, to hijack game terminology, DPS (damage per second). If I  have to physically chamber each round and have to replace my mag after 5 shots, way more kids are going to get clear of the scene than if I can put 30 rounds on target without any physical act to chamber each round.

If I can't kill or grievously wound a deer with one shot and I need to spray it down to hunt properly, then I need to practice more before I go out hunting.

The deadliest shooting ever featured 10-round magazines.  The shooter had 15-round magazines in his bag but didn't use them.

I think the magazine limit is not misguided in theory.  I don't think it will have a demonstrable impact.

I agree. The deeper problem is the action of the gun.

Magazine size restriction is simply a compromise point.

    14 minutes ago, BabaYaga said:

Yep.  Sheet metal and springs.  That is what magazines are made from.  Sheet metal and a spring.  Obviously so advanced in manufacturing as to be beyond the mediocre capabilities of the meek pubic to produce on their own....

Good luck getting a reliable extended mag from Cleetus's workshop lol

  11. 19 minutes ago, SDG said:

Yeah, that’s a shit ton of bannings...

Sure, but the semi-automatic action is the common denominator and the actual issue at hand.

"lol stupid lib, the only difference between that AR-15 and my mini-14 is how it looks! You're swayed by the name of something and the look of it because you're an idiot."

    - "Oh ok let's ban that, too, because then it's just as pointlessly deadly as the AR-15."

"NO! That's called a 'ranch rifle' which means it's OK and it's wood stocked not all black! You can't ban it!"

  12. It's why we need to just band the sale, manufacture, gifting, import, export, and inheritance of all fully and semi-automatic weapons. Simple enough to understand and a truly meaningful distinction (unlike bayonet mount or gun color).

    Words mean things.

Definitely, and it's very important that we constantly lament to each other how other people who are not here say that particular phrase in a way we find inaccurate. We must address this epidemic here where zero people actually use it inaccurately in discussions.

I'll assure you that I can find all kinds of causes to get 75%.

Do you need to be told how much your assurances are worth? Not much. I'm not sure I know of someone whose insight into the minds of kids is less valuable or interesting.

But assuming your insight into kids is valuable, which it certainly is not, why do student populations not already do this? Why are kids not skipping en masse all over the nation? Why do they not constantly drum up excuses that would please the LEFTIST MENACE in schools and choose LIBERAL COMMUNIST protest issues that would sway their SOCIALIST SYMPATHIZER teachers and admins to let them run amok?

Past that, how would a school, practically speaking, punish 75% of its student population? Please answer.

At the end of the day, the vast majority of a school's power lies only in its ability to motivate parents to act on their children. And the children themselves, by and large, do not actually want to skip school. If they wanted to, they would do it far more often.

Your view on this has the intellectual depth of a bad comedy routine. You talking about kids sounds like Ron White talking about how much his wife loves to shop, only he's funny and you're tedious.

Them gall-darned kids wanna skip school all day every day and its only Principal Johnson's paddle keepin 'em from doin' it!

You "think" and "believe" school districts altered policy to accommodate liberal protest. Do you know? Do you have evidence? Or is it all reliant on your eternally-aggrieved and perpetually-hurt feelings?

  16. 5 minutes ago, TahoeHorn said:

Some of you are having trouble with the question.  Do you allow the walkout or not?  What are your criteria for sanctioning a school walkout?

    I guess I'll just repost...

I think the tipping point has to do with number of students participating. At a certain point, a popular movement is unstoppable and the smart course of action is to take responsible action to minimize the negative effects. If 75% of your students are going to walk out for CauseX then it's smart to make sure that it all flows safely and with as little disruption as possible; probably even smart to work ahead of time with the organizers.

But if it's 1% of the kids? Then going the hard-ass route makes more sense from a simple numbers standpoint.

  17. Conservatives: Fuck this culture of participation trophies.
ALSO Conservatives: If you don’t pretend to like my awkward, shitty white son it’s your fault if he kills you.

    Conservatives: Shut up and sing.
ALSO Conservatives: I literally vote for celebrities and post their words to back up my arguments.
