  1. I would like to try some.  But that bottle is ass my dude...
Ha, honestly never even thought of the looks of the bottle.

I would imagine they are using a dark bottle to hide 4 year old juice though.
  2. Man the New Riff bottle sure is offputting looking like bad you know?
People don't like the bottle? That's interesting, I live very close to new riff, have done a private barrel pick there, etc and haven't heard that before, honestly only heard the opposite that everyone loves the bottle designs. Suppose that is a hometown bias.

Like what was said above, the single barrel rye is great, sib bourbon can be fantastic depending on pick, and balboa rye is also great. They do good things for the whiskey being young and they've spared no expense with equipment, process, and aging.
  3. I hope you guys can hold on to him. I want to believe that there are still coaches who desire more than money.
Kolar (tight end) and eisworth (safety) both coming back and with Campbell's last tweet it makes me hopeful he sticks around a while at least

  4. Interesting blind tasting kit I got from a local place, too bad it ended up being makers mark, bulleit rye, basil Hayden, and woodford reserve.

It was fun trying to guess though. Amazing how much the basil Hayden sucked compared to even the other 35b788a3a52aaaeaa68c542a7ed99e104.jpg

  5. Which is why I spend my money there - Places like Total Wine are purely about mid-tier and new curiosities.

Outside of the place down the road where I can routinely find BT for $23 and ER for $30, I shop almost exclusively at two privately owned stores.

1 - Mom and pop that does big volume and gives me BTAC at least once a year (2500-3k yearly spend)
2 - Fine wine shop owned by the city‘s second biggest restauranteurs where I can now get everything but god-tier simply by asking (1k yearly spend)

Next year should be interesting as I have the bar mostly built out and it’s gonna take me a decent clip to move through this hooch... will likely lean on #1 as that’s where we buy the bulk of our daily drinker wine.
Jesus fuck I'm jealous you get btac for 200 per month spending. I spend more than that at a few different local places now after my main one got bought out and don't get a second look. You have to spend at least a grand a month to even register as a priority customer here. Or throw some big ass parties to get enough "points" in order to buy something for retail.

I'm also drunk and disgruntled from the sooners beating Iowa state today, so that doesn't help.

  6. Apparently there was a line wrapping around Specs Midtown this morning at open. What were people getting in line for? Nothing. It was a "just in case line", which apparently picked up steam once people saw that there were a dozen people in line.

    Nothing dropped.

I see this daily around my parts. Insanity

  7. Who can explain to me the fireball sales on secondary boards? The phrasing of "sip as you pick" makes no sense to me and of course it can never be explained fully in light of being shut down.
Pay when you pick your number basically

  8. I think Penn State, Pitt, Ohio State, and possibly Tenn & Notre Dame are jobs Campbell would leave Iowa State for...
Also one of the jobs in Virginia...
He turned down Tennessee once and no way on Pitt. The other 3 are the main worries I think.
  9. I have 20,000 bottles open because I never drink the same bourbon twice.
Hell yeah, invite me over ha.

I definitely have some I prefer though. Four roses, Weller sr or antique, or 1792 bib and full proof are go tos.

  10. I don’t believe in having a daily drinker. I mean, I get the concept but I personally reject it. I have ~60 open bottles ranging from $25 up to $200 and I am constantly switching it up. I greatly prefer variety and basically never drink the same bottle more than once in a week.
My philosophy as well with around the same amount open

  11. Justin's hob is pretty cool but the prices on the rare stuff are mostly meant to keep things there as a museum. They want people to come in to be impressed and either get single pours or buy other non rare bottles. I was in their about a month ago in Lexington and snagged a 1792 sweet wheat for 35 bucks on the retail side of the store, while the "rare" side of the store had literally the same bottle of sweet wheat for $350.

  12. Of all the outstanding whiskey I’ve had in Tennessee this week, tonight’s 1-2 punch may have left the most inedible impression.

Dinner at Husk tonight demanded quality, so I opened up with 2017 ER17. Just a beautiful pour, taking everything I love about ER, extending the mouthfeel and softening the backend. If I could, I would drink this every day.

After dinner I went down to the bar to see if they had anything off list, and was stunned to find this year’s Heaven Hill 27 BP sitting next to a Yellowstone from the 70’s. Was able to convince them to give me a 1oz pour for half-price and good lord what a ride... Soft yet powerful, bright yet layered with darker notes. Just a magnificent pour all the way through and I only wish it had lasted longer.

Perhaps 10-20 mins after I emptied the glass, multiple people at the table where picking up the sweetness of the most wafting through the room, which is pretty remarkable coming out of a glencairn.
Party taco takes down Tennessee, nice
  13. I've heard nothing but positive things about the Weller Full Proof. Is it really that good? Seems like a good comp would be another strong wheater like Larceny BP. How do they compare?
I really want this bottle, but it has eluded me.

Never had the larceny BP but this was an excellent pour. Would highly recommend at retail.
