All right, my friends. Pull up a chair, grab a beer, and let me tell you the tale. The tale of the Great Algae War of 2024.

I shared already the state of the pool from last month. Here it is again:

    20240319_110857.thumb.jpg.31b80cd2658b80e4ebb6a2a6ee24e79e.jpg

    ca. March 19th.

Now, this is no ordinary mess. To give you some idea, not only was the pool completely full of algae -- we're talking long strands from the surface to the floor, here, but I scooped up a goddamned pinworm off the surface. Yeah, you know those fucking intestinal parasites? Yeah. One of those. It was dead. No idea where it came from.

March 28th. I'm just about to go on vacation. One more glimpse.

    20240328_154550.thumb.jpg.f79420e042ce96e23ac0c76bb0eeb7fa.jpg

    Ew.

I dumped 10 pounds of shock in there and got the pump going. Also skimmed as much as I could off the surface. Went on vacation, came back home.

April 2nd. Back home. OK, that's an improvement. We're sorta bluish green instead of deep forest green.

    20240402_141315.thumb.jpg.ca1fe728d4cad3329a19cd98a5e577a7.jpg

Dumped 10 more pounds of shock in.

Tuesday. OK, now the color is correct, but you can't see deeper than the second step. I've used up about 12 chlorine tabs, too. But now it's clean enough that I can start running the vacuum; there's no huge deposits floating on the surface, and the green is gone.

    20240409_165741.thumb.jpg.fea98eeffab3214b59b61cc76002751e.jpg

Pardon the mess. We're having work done on our house and our yard is being used to store shit that was in what used to be our garage.

Yesterday. Here's the deep end of the pool. By this point I've disassembled and cleaned out the filter completely three times. You can see the bottom of the deep end, but it's still murky.

    20240411_115529.thumb.jpg.844a84941bc9e49b6a0aa81d06391fc4.jpg

And finally: Today. You can read the labeling on the Poolvergnugen all the way down at the bottom of the pool.

    20240412_104949.thumb.jpg.fa9a120ff91e7074103e2559c331e427.jpg

All that's left is -- I'm going to dissassemble the filter one last time, dump in about five pounds of Sodium Carbonate (all that chlorine got my pH down to about 6.5), then put the Solar Blanket over it so it can start warming up. Now the solar blanket ain't clean, so I'll need to keep my eye on chlorine levels more or less daily over the next week. But other than that, we're done here!

    Happy Survivor GIF

Great work, but it would be a few years before I would be able to swim in the pool.

basically if the Yotes don't win that land auction the move to SLC is happening.

sounds like doesn't matter, current team is leaving asap.  The land auction is more of if Arizona gets a new team when it's ready to go - they'll keep the name and imaging to Coyotes.

On Bitwarden, I probably should have stated up front that I only have an android phone and tablet. I do not have a laptop. Only a work one that I cannot add programs or extensions to. It looks like it's not possible to use just the mobile app and you have to have the browser extension to make it work. It won't let me download that on my android. Am I missing something? Or maybe I just need to use a different web browser. Suggestions?

I'm an Android user with Bitwarden, it's works for me. Just have the Bitwarden app installed. Check under settings that AutoFill is on.

When Im using chrome and pull up site looking for credentials, above keyboard I'll get Bitwarden log to fill or click if vault is locked. I use fingerprint to unlock and select item to fill.

    Link for info: https://bitwarden.com/help/auto-fill-android/

Because it’s not even remotely possible. The causes of bad breath have zero to do with stomach contents. Nevermind the fact that the epiglottis doesn’t function that way. Can and do medications cause bad breath? Absolutely, but that’s not how.

Acid reflux is caused by foods hanging out in the stomach longer and is also a cause of bad breath. Lots of people mentioning increased acid reflux when on Ozempic.

I saw an article the other day that Costco will be selling doses of their semiglutide mix via their telemed service for ~$180 a dose. (can't find the link now)

the $180 is for a  3-month "plan" that covers the doctor virtual sessions.

The cost of medication is not included in the $179 three-month plan, and Sesame warned on its website that without insurance, GLP-1s can cost between $950 and $1,600 per month.

So now all of a sudden YTTV has started thinking my current playback area is in Albuquerque instead of Phoenix and it’s fucking with my local channel access. ie, sports.

When I go into settings to update my current playback area, it updates as NM, when I’m clearly sitting at my house in AZ. Home area still showing Phoenix.

Recently switched to Verizon 5G home WiFi system and has been working great. And www.where-am-i.net gets it right.

Of course when you try to send a feedback message to Google I just get the spinning wheel of color and a can’t send feedback message over and over.

    Any ideas?

This is what people say works to correct (last part of post) from Reddit:

It looks like I found the fix for whacky IP related mis-geolocations.

I opened my YT TV app on my fone, went to locations and to set home location. I then went into YT TV settings on my TV, then to location. I clicked into the current playback location (wrong location). With the fone app open and TV app open a message popped up saying "waiting for device to connect". Finally the YT TV app used my fone's GPS and sync'd the TV app to the actual fone location.

I tried different variations of this process with no luck. Having my fone YT TV app open and in location settings, while doing the same on my TV YT TV app the connecting device message came up. I just went thru this process with the four TVs in my home and they all sync'd up to the correct location.

Obviously I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this, so dumb question amnesty please. On Bitwarden when it says I can share my vault with one other person does that mean that I can share it with Mrs. Mo and we both can use the free account, or does she need to have her own account?

IMO it's best to each have an account. One creates the organization and the invites the other account to join. Make then a super admin. You then can have personal as well as shared items. You also each get 2FA ability individually.

For future estate planning it makes much easier to eventually add another user, say kid or someone. With everyone having electronic account with banks, investments etc it's a huge saver in case tragedy strikes that the estate has easier access to where everything is. They just need way to access your BitWarden.

  8. Military spending is the only place where massive cuts can occur and quickly, but Congress (via lobbies) spread its tentacles across pretty much every district so that no one would ever be for it. Our military spending is 40% of the worlds total, 3 times China and more than the next 10 countries combined.  It's going to take something dramatic to change that I'm afraid.

Lets see. The Great Recession was caused by a specific event, the financial crisis of 2008. Covid was a trangible event, an outside force that fucked with jobs.

So uh, what's the suggested outside force in this instance? What's she suggesting? What're you suggesting?

according to Bureau of Labor Statistics household survey source numbers  we are down 1.78 M Full time jobs from Nov til present.

suggestion is - yes jobs are being created, but they aren't full time jobs

Isn't that just pointing out being obese raises the risk of certain cancers, not cutting down is an effective treatment?
