Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot - this is a great film, and Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill were both terrific.

This one hits some spots as a recovering alcoholic. There's some real accurate portrayal of emotions in the movie and Phoenix makes it that way because he's so good.

I thought it was just fair, though. I couldn't really get into it, but didn't dislike it. Just wasn't crazy about it.

Started keto at 216.  Dropped pretty quickly to 209.  For about 10 days, my weight hovered between 209 and 214.  I got pissed and quit keto.  I'm now at 207 w/o doing anything special.  I'd absolutely love to get to 195 but would settle for 200.  Seeing as how I'm about to go balls deep into soccer and cycling, I'm pretty sure the last few lbs will take care of themselves.

I may have found the perfect routine for myself.  I take a small breakfast shake for breakfast to school, usually eat an adult (genoa salami / crackers) lunchable for lunch.  I have no way of snacking since I'm in an elem school and would never eat the cafeteria food.  As a teacher, I probably sit less than 30 mins a day during school. In the evening, I turn into a fatass for one meal.

So few calories (before 5pm) + natural exercise as a teacher + kind of being fat in the evening = losing some weight.

How long did you do keto when you dropped the first 7 pounds you said was quickly? How strict were you with your diet? Counting all your intake and measuring ketones or anything like that? I ask because this is the first time I've tried this diet and still don't know what to expect. Different with everyone, I know.

I've been pretty good I think, but I've kind of plateaued also after losing 6 pounds the first week. This week will start week 3.

thoughts on this from you hammock campers? I’ve been drooling over a Hennessey for a few years, but this looks easier to set up. I have a cheap amazon hammock right now with an integrated bug net, but it is not near as comfy as my regular eno.

Which cheap one do you have? I ask because I have an Everest with the integrated bug net. I like it, but it's the only camping hammock I've had, so I was wondering if you were talking about that one not being nearly as comfortable as your Eno.

At some point, CI/CO does matter and I think that's where I am. Too much fat in the diet, too easy to consume more than I can easily burn. Adios pork rinds, I will miss ya.

Exactly where I am. Matter of fact, I downed a bag of pork rinds last night not even thinking about it, checked the bag and saw I'd put in 1000 calories just like that.

I can't quit those completely though. Gonna have to learn that moderation thing folks talk about.

  5. You guys that are somewhat vigilant on checking your glucose and ketone levels, what have you found with sugar substitutes affecting it? Every Dr., nutritionist, dietitian, homeless guy, pornstar, has a different opinion on it. I drink Sprite Zero and chew sugar free gum quite a bit and it seems like if I have more than 1 or 2 soda's my glucose levels go up. I was at 139 this morning. I think that's the highest I've ever seen it.

I got my insulin levels tested in October and they were a little high (30.3 uU/L, whatever that means), but according to my doctor, nothing to worry about. I've had the hardest time in my life losing weight over the past 8 months and I'm wondering if I'm insulin resistant. That and having to piss all the time seem to be 2 symptoms of it that everyone agrees on.

What kinda gig are you looking for?

Well, my experience is mostly project management for hardware deployments, so I guess I'm looking for that, but I would really do anything that's fairly stable.

I have a lot of experience, but they haven't been the kind of jobs that you network with a lot of people either, so that's why I was wondering about the head hunter route.

  7. That is a good comparison, which makes me sad because I remember my parents watching that show and me thinking "what the fuck is this nonsense"?

But really what makes me sad is that Gary (whatever his real name is) is pretty bad and I loved him and Guster on Psych. One of my favorite shows ever for a laugh.

And I don't think cancer girl is sneaky hot, I think she just is, but petite blonde is kind of my wheelhouse. On the subject, John's wife really does it for me for some reason.

  8. I'm gonna piggyback here because I was thinking of asking an employment question, too. I was wondering if looking into a headhunter, recruiter, career coach, etc... would be worth it. I've never talked to one, as a friend or job or anything, so I really am clueless on that process and how much that could help.

Is a career coach going to get to know me and suggest types of jobs where a headhunter or recruiter would look specifically for my skill set with their clients? I've looked a little, but have never talked to somebody that has done it. A career coach sounds appealing because my skill set is kind of generic, for lack of a better word. Not specialized at all, but needed and versatile, if that makes sense.

    I really don't need 200K myself, but I'm a simple man.

  9. I am. It's alright. It's not well written and is not well acted, but there's something charming or real or some bullshit in there that keeps me watching. Definitely not a profound, deep show that it really wants to be. Might also be because I'm around their age that keeps me tuned in.

I don't think it gets better or worse really as the season goes. Just kinda know what you're going to get.

  10. Can we just legalize hookers already? Man. Poor fella.

272 days and feeling good. No real strong urges, but a bit of an urge yesterday driving home from being out of town for work. Just one of those perfect storms of having a long work week, being out of town the whole week and rolling back into town on a Saturday with perfect weather just had a tug at me of being the perfect day drinking time. Nothing beyond a fleeting feeling of nostalgia, but damn it did sound good.

  11. ^^^^^^^^^ try giving up a 12 pack a night as a supplement to your nightly whiskey and gaining 30 pounds, but that's another thread.

I'm going to try the Keto thing. I put on this 30 pounds so unexpectedly and it's been a nightmare to drop any and it's never been a problem in the past dropping 5 or 10 pounds with just a little effort. Seems like I just can't. I tried to intermittent fast. Started at 16/8, went to 18/6 then to 20/4. Nothing. Granted, I was eating way too much during my window. The only kind of diet I could imagine doing is eating less, but the small 4 hour window didn't slow down my calorie intake at all, it just made it during a shorter period of time.

So now I'm on day 2 of a fast trying to kick this off, then I'll try and stay in ketosis or low carb or whatever I can until I see results. I'm terrible at knowing what to eat because I've never had any interest in nutrition and I have a really hard time learning about something I'm not interested in. But I think I'm just going to have to get a bunch of meals and cheat sheets for a reference and go from there.

I'm 5' 10" and hit 220. My weight for the past 20 years has been between 185 and 195 and I'm ok with that, even though I'm still a little pudgy at that weight, I feel good there and I'm not trying to be on the cover of a magazine. I feel like shit about myself right now when I look in the mirror and my clothes aren't comfortable. I've also been battling a terrible bout of shingles over the summer that still hasn't gone away completely and then I got plantar fasciitis from trying to overdo walking when I was able to again, so that's really putting a damper on how much I can exercise. I guess I need to start biking or something that doesn't impact my feet as much.

Some of you guys are impressive and hardcore. This hitting 40 thing really sucks. That's when it all started a year ago. Don't know why science and nature gotta hate me so much. Fucker.

  12. Black Monday.  Been looking forward to this show. Cheadle is great in everything. I didn't realize you could already watch the pilot. I'll let a few record before I watch anyway. I didn't realize it was only 30 minutes. That kinda sucks.

BBQ2Bayou  If you're interested in backpacking you could hit the Eagle Rock Loop in Ouachita National Forest.  We are starting at the Little Missouri Falls trailhead and doing the loop this weekend.  Supposed to get down to 19 on Saturday, with snow showers.  Should be fun (not really, but screw it).

Yeah, that looks like a good time and the kind of camping I'd like to do. I need to look into that place. Have fun.
