ARC - Audio Return Channel Help

Recommended Posts

I recently had to replace my tv and I got a smart tv with roku built in. Previously I had a stand alone roku in an AV closet attached to an AV receiver that was connected to the TV. Now my tv has the roku built in so I need to get sound from my TV back to the receiver so I can play through the speakers. I think this is what ARC is for but I don’t understand how it works. I think I have it turned on for both the tv and receiver. Anyone familiar with this?

I think you just go from arc port on tv to input on receiver. I think the arc port allows 2-way communication.  From there you can have other crap plugged in to tv or through the receiver.

Doesn’t seem to be working - thought there may be a trick or something I’m missing. I seem to have both the tv and receiver set up for it to work.

You might have to enable it in the menu settings of your tv, and possibly the receiver as well. But try the tv first.

Also, it could be under some proprietary name, since different brands like to make up their own name for the same function. My Samsung has "Anynet", which is their term for HDMI controlled components, which I think has to be turned on to allow ARC.
