Tackling

I’ve seen it mentioned a few places. In a “get off my lawn” way I would say that tackling in the era since ESPN highlights became a thing has always been less fundamental as guys looking to deliver a highlight hit failed to wrap up.

It seems to be getting worse though, at Texas and elsewhere around football. I feel like I routinely see guys now delivering what I call the folded arms tackle. You know the one where they run up cross their arms in front of them and the ball carrier inevitably bounces off said arms and gets additional chunks of yards.

Is it the fear of leading with the helmet that is doing this? (opening up your arms somewhat naturally puts you in a more head first position when advancing on somebody). It can’t be that being on shitass ESPN is more of a draw now than it was 15 years ago. Am I just imagining things?
