  1. Maybe we're waiting until the NFL season ends to find a former college coach who wants to get back into those ranks - one that has taken a QB to NY. Mark Helfrich
  2. Hearing my kids laugh their asses off watching Christmas Vacation for the first time last week.
  3. Are you my neighbor. His wife apparently has so many ornaments that she bought 2 more trees to decorate and put them in their dining room. Their kid hid behind one of them when they were playing hide-n-seek. Nobody could find him.
  4. Technically, yes. He's definitely not in charge of any players.
  5. I'm guessing Canada had more to do with what went down at Maryland than we think. That would explain his lack of employment.
  6. Easy win over a totally outmatched team. We were more aggressive at the service line than we needed to be, but JE has proven he's not going to dial that back. O'Neal was the only starter that got less than 12 swings. UCSB is a slightly better hitting team than Albany, but I still don't see how we lose a set tonight.
  7. Molly is being used mostly in a "jumbo package" where she comes in for Jhenna on the front row when we're serving. She only played 10 total points in 4 sets. As for the tournament, we definitely got a better draw than Baylor. The only B1G seed we'll meet before the FF would be if Minny can get past Fla.
  8. I could be wrong, but this seems like the first week in a while that we're higher in the RPI than the coaches poll. FWIW, Karch predicted last night we would wind up the 3-seed and Baylor the 1-seed, putting us on opposite sides of the bracket.
  9. BTW, did anyone else notice the, um, unique way the Kansas Libero finished a play? My wife called it the "slow grind" and wondered if Nelson knows what it looks like she's doing. The TV cameras may not have picked it up much, but she did it every time a ball hit in front of her. I found a shot of her doing it in a previous match.
  10. Confirmed. I was there and went down to court level to watch Claire serve. It's hard to tell sometimes on tv, but it is filthy. That first set was a bit of a hangover. Kansas scored 4 or 5 points in that set hitting over Jhenna's block. That's something we need to figure out how to defend better.
  11. I pretty much agree with Eddie. I need to dial my wife back regarding your 2nd paragraph above. He's in 6th grade and she has said things to him like, "you need straight As to get into Texas." He qualified for TAG (talented and gifted) early in elementary and has been plenty challenged along the way. My daughter (4th grade) just missed the qualifications, so she has been at the top level of students that aren't getting pulled out of the regular class for TAG. She is the one we have had to "advocate" more for and ask her teachers to help us keep her more engaged and not get bored.
  12. Fair enough. Glad is wasn't related to injury or discipline.
  13. That was a much better performance than the one in Norman - better passing, setting, hitting, and blocking. The jumbo package with White serving destroyed KSU in the second set. Molly had a great game. The question is why did she start? I recorded it and didn't hear much commentary. Did they ever mention O'Neal or why she didn't play? I don't even remember any sideline TV shots of her.
  14. Yeah, it just sucks that we're not going to get to watch this. If any match should get a late pickup, it's #1 vs. #3.
  15. The ou play-by-play guy was an idiot, and the woman had to correct him on multiple occasions. He acted shocked at our 10 service errors, but was clueless to the fact that any coach in the country would take 10 errors to accompany 10 aces. I attribute our below avg hitting in Norman to Jhenna having a sub-par game. She put too many sets too close to the net and couldn't set the middles consistently. They only hit .167. Looking forward, I'm surprised the match in Waco hasn't yet been picked up for TV. It's still listed on Baylor's website as ESPN+.
  16. It's too late now, but for future reference, if these are your tickets, you can log in to your account on texassports.com and transfer tickets to someone. All you need is an email address to send them to.
  17. Is there a better Libero in the conference than Petersen? I have to think she's high on that list.
  18. Both teams served like crap yesterday, but we cleaned up our passing. As usual, we still scored a bunch with Hahn, Micaya, and Logan serving despite the lack of aces. We didn't play down to them much with the exception of getting a little lazy before closing out the 2nd set. When you side out around 70% and hit .384 vs. .146, you're doing fine. I got tickets to senior night. Hopefully we'll be coming off a win in Waco.
  19. We weren't very sharp last night, but fortunately Tech sucks. Logan couldn't serve or pass. Jhenna set a few too low for the middle and back row. The one thing that worked like a champ was subbing Molly for Jhenna on the front row with Claire setting from the back row. Molly had 3 blocks and a kill in very limited action. It also looked like Micaya was only hitting her topspin serve at 80% just to make sure it gets in, specifically when Molly was in. I like that lineup, and it did its job in all 3 sets last night with Micaya or Claire at the service line.
  20. My jaw dropped when I saw that play, as did Paul Sunderland's. I don't know that I've ever seen a slide in front of the setter like that, but I really like it. If Butler is approaching toward the net, the defense knows the ball is going to be at the spot Butler will be at. On that front slide/quick set, they could have that timed for the set to be anywhere within about 6 feet of Jhenna. In this case, only the MB was anywhere close and Butler had a wide open look at the right half of the court to park one. There's a handful of combos you could run off of that as well.
  21. I don't follow recruiting, but there better be a DS or 2 in the 2020 class because we're losing every back row player we have except Peterson. I wonder if Shook might transition into Hahn's role as DS (and part-time setter when JE wants to get Jhenna off the front row for a rotation). I can also see Phillips pushing for more playing time next year over a freshman. Maybe either her or Asjia move to OH.
  22. And 1 or 2 of her 3 hitting errors were Jhenna's fault. Molly was a capable substitute, but Bri makes this team much better.
  23. Logan has clearly been watching film of Hollann Hans from aggy. She switched up her serve from floater to hard hybrid with just enough topspin to make it dip and Baylor wasn't ready for it. That's the 3rd match in a row the team had more aces than errors - right after we were bitching about that ratio a few pages ago. Makes it easy to laugh when Logan launches one like that. Baylor couldn't even handle some of the easier serves tonight. This was a well-coached game. We took away their only dimension and they couldn't do anything else. Their setter's 4 kills were from frustration. She didn't know whom to set, so she just said screw it and dinked it herself. Their coach panicked and used 2 challenges in the first set. The team followed his lead and they stayed in that mode until their one last desperate run at the end of the 3rd set.
  24. One less week between Labor Day and Thanksgiving next year.
