well, our defense was good about social distancing. they were always 6 feet away from the opposing offense. and most of our receivers couldn't catch shit, so they were safe.27 points

I cannot think of a better avatar for the current Republican Party than a dude who tells the President to fuck off on Christmas Eve then tries to claim he was joking and ACTUALLY he is the real victim in the situation. If you're gonna tell the President to fuck off on Christmas Eve after he takes time to talk to your kids, then at least be man enough to own it. Fucking pussy.15 points

Harris subtweeted at Anderson when Anderson committed to A&M, which was an amazingly stupid and immature thing to do at a recruit, especially one that you're hoping to flip or get a transfer from down the line11 points

man, i went round and round with Dr. Beeper before he banned himself, he was IRATE and appalled that a UT Longhorn fanboard allowed such strident criticism of Abbott, a fellow alum 😕 i first tried pointing out how that actually was a positive reflection on UT but got nowhere, so i provided him the link to texags since it seemed important to him that we all think the same way. that offended him as well.10 points

Sarkisian keeping Brandon Harris simply confirms that Seven Loss Steve is going to prove to be an unmitigated failure at this job. He flat out knows that Harris was an underperformer i. this cycle. So we’re looking at a guy that fired one coach after one of the worst seasons in UT history. The guy he fired overtly failed in every facet of his role on a constant basis for a second consecutive year. Sarkisian retained him for idiotic reasons while he could have kept the terrific LB coach instead for the same purposes. I’m interested in seeing which posters poo poo this and then inevitably come back to the recruiting threads to lament the next round of self-inflicted gunshot wounds in recruiting the next cycle. Also, the idiotic notion of “just hire other guys to do this guy’s job for him” is self-identifying posters as naive imbeciles who have never competently managed a team in their life.10 points

The logic flaw previously exhibited in Rays' posts (ahead of the one here that I've quoted to move the discussion along) was the same that we witnessed during the Greg Davis era. Plenty of intelligent (and otherwise) posters fell prey to it over the years. "Well, Greg Davis isn't the best OC maybe, but there are a lot of OCs that are worse than him, too." I get the premise, it's just flawed. Here's how you know the premise is flawed, and ultimately destructive: look at what Bob Stoops did with the OC role at our biggest rival during the same timeframe as Davis' tenure at Texas. Stoops hired, in order, Mike Leach, Mark Mangino, Kevin Wilson + Chuck Long, Jay Norvell + Josh Heupel (in 2011, so after Davis was gone, but reflecting the same approach), and then Lincoln Riley. Mack Brown settled for a guy that he was comfortable with who he could defend with enough talent infused into the program. It went pretty well for both men at Texas for a while, but the foundation was not built on bedrock and Texas has paid the price for that kind of behavior from 2010 forward. Bob Stoops produced 7 consecutive OCs who would go on to become head coaches. Only one of those OCs, Chuck Long, was a failure as a HC. Mike Leach went on to win at levels that those programs had never seen before. Mangino took Kansas to a damned Orange Bowl and won the motherfucker. Kevin Wilson made Indiana competitive. Stoops fucking fired Norvell and Heupel in order to raise the heights of the program by grabbing Riley and then Norvell and Heupel both went on to become winning HCs down the line. It is not coincidental, to me at least, that many of these men have deep character flaws that ultimately led to significant schisms with their schools and teams. But that's a feature, not a bug, with what Stoops was looking for and so be it. One approach is "good enough." The other approach has several names, but it is never called "great enough" because the word "great" doesn't need a modifier. I call it "Up or Out" and I'm sure that's because I read it or picked it up early in my career and it stuck with me, so I'm not claiming originality on it, just that it's the term I attach to the behavior. Accenture (when guys like PhxHorn were founding partners and building it after the breakoff from Andersen), GE (under Welch), Netflix, Amazon, Apple (under Jobs), McKinsey, etc., all follow some version of it. Stoops used it, Saban still does. Start-ups almost require the mentality due to the fact that weak links with small teams cannot hide and erode morale (and the P&L). We can shoot holes in the problems of those orgs, and there are plenty, but you cannot argue their success when Up or Out is the organizational development tactic being deployed.9 points

Y'all saw a guy who was actually good at connecting with recruits with Carrington. Dude got raves from recruits who couldn't wait to take pictures with him, mothers tweeted about him, he was featured in commitment videos. Do you really think occasional generic "he's a nice guy" quotes about Harris in 9.95er reports are the same thing?9 points

Biden has been around the block a few times. Not the first time a constituent shared displeasure, either in a coherent or chickenshit manner. Also, Biden is not a psychotic toddler who takes offense at everything like TFG. Shit, at least GWB could stand there and take it like a man when a mother of a wounded soldier let him have it. TFG would have slandered her on Twitter within 5 minutes of her outraged berating at him. Biden and W are at least functioning adults. TFG and his supporters are fucking toddlers.9 points

who is they? Sarkisian and CDC? No one is holding them accountable for fielding the worst Texas team of the modern era. Uhm, WUT? Montana State was a fucking top 10 team and won the Patriot 3 years running only to be eliminated from the playoffs by NDSU, and SHSU twice. They won their conference 7 times in 10 years with Kramer and Ash before Choate was hired. Choate built fuckall. The dropoff in our LBs from Hutzler to Choate was a fucking cliff and there's no reason that he should still be employed at Texas.9 points

It's funny but my teenage kid has not had school closures because of Covid or anything like that. Now his school has been shut down 2 times so far this year due to gun threats that a kid "may" be coming to school to kill a bunch of kids. That seems to be a under reported story and definitely has an effect on children's mental health when they know that at any time some kid could show up to their school with a weapon and go on a killing spree. I wonder why nobody is willing to fix that problem.9 points

Travis County updated deaths today with "week ending" being noted as 12/27 so not a true weekend. This is a 10 day run (last update was week ending 121/7) so the good news is even better in terms of the positive trend Only 4 deaths 12/17 to 12/27. They break down as follows: 40 to 49 (1) 60 to 69 (1) 70 to 79 (1) 80+ (1)8 points

Miller flat out didn't like him. Anderson was the same. In the waning days of the cycle, Harris was tasked with "connecting" to Anderson after Elko left and he basically just cemented that guy's disinterest in playing for Sarkisian at Texas. If you guys need a longer list, we could probably get one, but why would we need it? If the guy in Harris' position is alienating any of the program's targets, he's a fucking bust. If you can simply put aside the stupid shit that whoever it is you're parroting spews and take a basic look at the situation, there's no way propping this kind of position up shouldn't make you blush. The starting TE for a national playoff number 1 seed reigning champion with a 3rd round draft grade isn't transferring to Texas. There shouldn't be a "but". If a manager knowingly keeps an inferior employee on staff after a lengthy evaluation period, for any reason, the manager is inferior as well. There is no reason to give September Wins Steve a fucking benefit of the doubt. It's asinine. Texas could upgrade that role in 50 different ways today and be better tomorrow for it. You guys that take a guy like Arch Manning at his word about staff members for various programs when he's talking to reporters should take it to DM so the rest of us don't have to be a party to the nonsense. It's fucking idiotic that you're drawing any conclusions on Arch Manning's recruitment or feelings about assistants based on what he told some $9.95er.8 points

First, I'm not defendimg Harris, assuming he's done a poor job, but the blanket statement in that gif is bullshit. I've managed people for years and the one thing I know is you have to understand the individuals and what they respond to. I've worked with plenty of managers who believed your gif and thought the only way to drive productivity is to overlook a job well done, find some negative to harp on instead, and demand more with no intention of acknowledging when they get it. Some people do respond to being constantly beaten down, but a lot don't. As much as you may want to pretend it isn't the case a lot of people will work their ass off and produce even more when they see their efforts are recognized and acknowledged. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now, and again, none of that is in defense of Harris or someone who truly isn't performing.7 points

Agreed. This article said 37.9% success rate in 2020. Only one year but over 100 drives. So league average in 16 chances would be 6-10 versus his 2-14. https://www.milehighreport.com/platform/amp/2021/8/3/22559449/nfl-quarterback-success-and-failure-in-2020-on-late-game-drives-when-trailing6 points

It could be that expecting one or even two-year turnarounds on an offensive line that has been hemorrhagic explosive dogshit diarrhea since Dubya is the retarded part, not a succession of coaches who came here with varying degrees of success elsewhere. We've been a shambolic succession of teams since 2010. The best programs are just that -- programs. Blue-chips want to join them and are happy to redshirt. Aside from Cosmi, who was the last stud to redshirt on OL? Again, it's the same answer to all such questions about the historic shittiness on our OL: 2003 recruit Tony Hills. It really is going on two decades of futility now. Ever since then the OL has been a nonstop succession of horrible evaluations, a revolving door at OL coach, one new offense after another, a battalion of headcases, and a legion fat and happy underachievers who prioritize film-making or DJ'ing techno nights or whatever. And injuries and medical retirements: I really think that Patrick Hudson kid looked like a stud, and no sooner did he start flexing on the field did his doctor tell him to quit football forever. Sark is finally addressing it the way it has long needed to be addressed: by both weeding out the chaff and succesfully landing a boatload of studs. He is risking his nuts on this, because unless Ewers proves to be the God IT swore Hudson Card was, we won't be much better this year than last, but all that starts to change in 2023, and once you've rid our perennial status as a slapdick team and become a program again, we will be (cue Winwood) back in the high life again. If we have a realistic shot at a portal or grad transfer guy with all-conference ability who wants to play here, by all means, find a way to jump on him. But some of y'all seem to think Sark should just be able to conjure up some stud portal dude with three years eligibility who has a visit list of UT and nowhere else. Just because a good OL goes in the portal does not mean we are entitled to him.6 points
