For the love of Christ woman, stop posting the same fucking thing every 20 mins just to make your neurotic self feel better. Bring something useful to the thread other than your inane babbling of your love for a person and a country you never fucking heard of 8 days ago. Most of us want to see Russia on its ass, but we dont need a god damned cheerleader screaming the same shit over and over.71 points

One of my Romanian guys is still out. On Monday he asked for more time off because him and his wife have been picking up refugees from the border. As of last Monday they had already personally moved over two hundred people into Romania.32 points

So you’re worried if the Russian sanctions are too tough they will lead to the rise of a monomaniacal autocrat who installs only those loyal to him personally in positions of power, imprisons and murders his political opposition, and invades/subjugates neighboring sovereign states?29 points

Time to cancel that trip to Cancun. MEXICO CITY, March 1 (Reuters) - Mexico will not impose any economic sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday. He also criticized what he called censorship of Russian state-sponsored media by social media companies. "We are not going to take any sort of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world," Lopez Obrador told a news conference.21 points

@MaybeACoordinator, Mearshimer is a giant of international relations theory but breaks down when it comes to application. The bottom line is that Ukrainian neutrality in the sense of Austrian or Finnish neutrality, with real independence and guarantees of non-aggression and interference, was not something Russia ever planned to tolerate. Russia has been non-neutral and more or less hostile to Ukraine since 2004. Russian backed agents poisoned the presidential candidate they did not like and then helped rig the subsequent election when he didn’t die as planned. Please note— that’s not what happens in neutral nations, and that’s why they wanted in NATO and asked for it. When Russia’s guy finally got his chance (after fair elections that his pro-West opponent allowed) l, he proceeded to do Russias bidding against the will of his own people and would not sign an EU trade agreement. Russia invaded Crime and the East. Note— this is not neutral behavior or the way to prod a state to neutrality. It’s important to be honest about the terms, Putin’s Russia defines neutrality as “puppet state” when it comes to the near abroad. Finland and Austria and Switzerland were never an option because Russia wouldn’t accept it. Poisoning political candidates and rigging and elections is Kremlin war by other means. Talking about neutrality is like telling the armed intruder in your house “please don’t trespass and we can get along.” Railing against “War, Inc” is really just sloganeering. We have a war because Russia launched a war, the focus needs to be on how to stop it, not flights of fancy about how this is all Raytheon’s fault.19 points

Man, this is where I think we are completely in uncharted territory. As inspiring as the Ukrainians have been so far, they can't hold out forever. And what we are seeing unfold on the ground now is shaping up to be a situation where the oft-repeated refrain of "never again will we stand by and watch wholesale slaughter occur on European soil" will be put to the test. And I think everyone knows that if we step in in any meaningful way, the conflict immediately expands to the worst possible possibilities. And I don't want to sound cynical, because all life is worth protecting, but prior to the last five days I don't think there would have even been the slightest inclination to offer anything more than concerned words re Russian atrocities over there in much of Western Europe. But the Ukrainian actions have been so emotionally inspiring, and their PR demonstrating their resolve and their humanity is fucking onnnnnn point, that I think we are going to see populations in certain corners seriously start to push leaders towards stepping in. And that is an understandable position...we are humans living in the free world, and we are influenced by the brutality that we see. And it is in our nature to want to stop it. But that good and wholesome desire very well kick off something really, really terrible. I can speak for many in Germany when I say that the “other-ization” of Ukrainians that was in place a mere week ago re the Ukrainians has washed away, and they are genuinely respected here now for what they have shown. And there is emotional investment in their safety and success. And with that investment comes willingness to accept steps that could kick off the big one. It truly is a really dangerous moment.18 points

Really awkward work call right now. Long story short, we have had a need for additional Russian lawyers on the transactional side of the Legal Department given the volume of business we do over there, so we hired three new attorneys over there during the last few weeks. Standard protocol in Germany is that people start employment on first day of the month, and offers are typically made 2-3 months before start dates due to longer notice periods in Europe. So all of these were hired late last year/early this year, starting today. Well, in the department-wide call that we have on the first Tuesday per month, all three introduced themselves. That in and of itself was a bit awkward, given the 8 Million KG Elephant in the room of “Y'all even gonna be needed at this stage”…until the below email came in. Literally while the third one was introducing herself...you could see all the heads on the MS Teams call checking emails while the call was going on and their slight reactions: Subject: Internal Memo: Supply of Goods to Russia Stopped Liebe Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter, We will inform all customers today that due to the war in Ukraine and the associated sanctions against Russia, COMPANY has decided to stop all supply of goods to Russia. All shipments have been stopped with immediate effect and production planning has been adjusted accordingly. We understand this decision will create significant challenges for our customers, however, given the current environment, we consider this as the appropriate decision to take. We hope that the conflict will be resolved soon, so that we can re-evaluate the situation and possibly re-initiate deliveries. In addition, we would like to let you know that we are considering ways to help people who are suffering from the war. We will reach out to relief organizations to find out how we can help and support in this difficult situation. On behalf of the Executive Board / Signed CEO Immediately my individual chat messaging service lit up with variations of, “Hope these guys have euro contracts” (which, of course, they don't) or “Wonder what severance for 90 minutes of employment looks like?” Still on the call. Fucking brutal.16 points

I'm extremely surprised that you jumped in at the mention of Romney to take Barack Obama to task for comments made 10 years ago understating the threat Russia has always posed to the United States. Is there anything that's happened in the decade since, specifically with respect to Presidential candidates and Presidents, regarding US public acknowledgement of the threat Russia poses that you may have forgotten to mention every day for over half that decade? Anything at all?15 points
