Surly has @immamac and maybe a couple of people he hires off craigslist that end up not bringing beer to the tailgate. Oh and me as a 3 times a year podcast host who makes less than the craigslist people and instead actively loses time and money instead

  20. I'll add a hiccup. Since these is the first those knobs have been exposed to actual NIL, they're about...2 years behind us. Good fucking luck hitting up their donor base now. Particularly in light of 2 things: 1) Jimbo Fisher is no longer a feel good, safe bet in regards to soliciting money from folks. I wouldn't peg program enthusiasm as "high" at this point. But even if it were, it gets particularly more complicated going donors who have been under the impression that "they've been leading the way on NIL this entire time." In the parlance of stupid, which i've translated into English, that sounds something like "So uh, as a small or medium donor why do you need my money?" In regards to big donors, they might like the tax relief but these guys might already be tapped out. But most importantly: 2) Timing. I can speak from personal experience that once you have the foundation in place, educating small/medium/large donors about how all this works is a FUCKING TIME CONSUMING KICK TO THE FUCKING BALLS. That means their donor awareness is likely...2 years behind our donor awareness. Also, that gif is particularly delightful for me because it portrays A&M as a black man. Just delicious.

  30. I don't really care if you're wrong or right. I just know it's not realistically going to happen. So I'll leave you to it. He was easily going to be my favorite coach of all time, in any sport. I was fully on board. But he fucked up. I don't see how we get anyone ever who was going to be a better fit for us than pre felony assault arrest Chris Beard. It's pretty simple. Don't make all the decisions that led to getting arrested by the police for felony assault. It wasn't just one. It was a series of them made over the course of at least 6 years. I'm very sad it happened, but it did. I'd say good luck with his next job, but I actually want him to completely implode Hindenburg style, without all the fiery victims involved.

  34. Number of Texans who've won the Powerball Jackpot since 1995: 0 Number of Mass Shooting Events in Texas since 1995: 19 Number of MSE Fatalities just in Texas since 1995: 166 Number of MSE Injuries just in Texas since 1995: ~500 Number of those immediately adjacent to mass shooting events in Texas since 1995, suffering severe emotional damage: ~Tens of Thousands Many of us are guilty of using hyperbolic examples for effect (powerball, lightning strikes, Covid-19 death rates, etc.). But when it comes to gun statistics, you gotta get that shit right. Obviously, there is an extremely small chance any of us are anywhere near a mass shooter event. We get that. The problem I have with them is the randomness, volume of carnage, and inability to substantially de-risk it. I'm 20x more likely to die in a traffic fatality on a motor cycle than in my truck. So I don't ride a motorcycle. Doesn't mean an 18-wheeler can't still kill me, but I've driven the odds down to almost zero. Lightning can still strike me, but it's a slim chance...and effectively zero if I don't make it a habit of being the tallest thing for a mile in any direction during a lightning storm directly overhead. I can do little things each day to reduce already small probabilities to basically zero. Buying weed once a year likely means I will never be involved in gang or drug war shootings, but working as a drug trafficker all week...your chances rise considerably that you'll be involved in a related shooting. So I can pretty easy not get involved in gang or cartel business. What I have to do though, is send my kids to school, I have to go to the grocery store, I have to attend church services, I have to go to work. I can't de-risk that. I can't avoid that like I can avoid drag racing, extreme weather, or the drug trade. I don't live in fear, I live in frustration. If the "good guy with a gun" stopped this shit at even Mendoza line levels, .200, I'd pack in public each and every day. But the reality is closer to the batting average of Dave Dravecky, after he lost his arm.

  35. I agree with a lot of what you said, but two things jump out that make the West’s support a little more concrete, even if the average citizen doesn’t realize it: 1. Russia has beaten the drum over and over that when they finish with Ukraine, they will be going after Moldova and the Baltics and others. This ends with Russian defeat in Ukraine, or begins with Russians shedding European and American blood outside of Ukraine. And they will try and use nuclear blackmail to keep the West from hitting targets inside of Russia 2. If Russia succeeds in Ukraine, Russia would control 30% of the world's wheat, 20% of the world's corn, and 60% of the world's sunflower oil. This is unacceptable to Europe, the US, and many other countries, because it would destabilize the world. People bitch about food prices, but they ain’t seen nothing as Putin would raise prices to rebuild his economy.

  36. Here's a two hour interview with an operational planner from the famous (infamous?) Azov battalion that held Mariupol for 86 days after being encircled (and only surrendered under direct orders). From the interview I learned about Stepan Razin, I learned about the heroes of Kruty, and I was reacquainted with the performance artist Pavlensky. Plus a whole lot more. I highly recommend it, but I'll be honest. I did not make it through the whole thing in one sitting. But it was an absolutely fascinating look into the mind of a major combatant, who survived the siege of Azovstal, months of captivity with the Russians, and is even now planning to return to the front with the objective of taking as many enemy prisoners as possible to use as exchanges for the Azov prisoners still held captive. He also gives a somewhat chilling reassurance that the people who committed the massacre of the Azov prisoners of war are known and will be accounted for.

  39. Gosh, aren't we all just SHOCKED to find out (for, uh, the 11,000th time) that Russia has actively interfered in our domestic elections, almost entirely in favor of one party? Gosh, I mean, I may have to sit down, I'm so thrown off by this revelation. And Tucker Carlson will, tonight, continue his work of openly aiding the Putin regime on America's most-watched news network that is owned by a foreign national and actively foments disinformation in the US. And his audience will 100% parrot that message and try to stop our assistance to Ukraine (no need to guess, they are out there in the open doing exactly that). Move along, nothing to see here.

  40. I am well aware of how Berlin and Japan ended up as well as the road that had to be travelled to get there. You needn't see it as your duty to "inform" me. We all know how you feel about Russia as well, and I share many of the same sentiments. The war needs to be brought home to the average Russian before we will see major attitude adjustments. We disagree about how that is accomplished. It shouldn't be a big disagreement that I'm saying we didn't have to skin anyone alive and salt their wounds to win WWII. Because we didn't. We don't need to now. And the rhetoric of dehumanization is not the the language of winners. It's ultimately self-defeating.
