  1. Speaking of Rice MOB and A&M taking jokes well, this site has scripts of the MOB halftime shows. 1973 was "The Halftime of Infamy" @TexasRenegade referred to. http://mob.rice.edu/archives/scripts/#A&M1973 Texas A&M University vs. Rice Rice Stadium β€” Houston, TX November 17, 1973 Result: W 24β€”20 [Later named β€œThe Halftime of Infamy”] Action: Band lines up on north end of field. Called to attention. Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the 1973 Marching Owl Band, or MOB β€” the only thing funnier than a good Aggie joke. The MOB is directed by Mr. Bert Roth, with twirlers Janet Breston, Suzan McCorkle, Liz Moy, and Karen Blackwell. And, in his last appearance with the MOB today, the person responsible for pulling together the halftime shows this year, Drum Major Bob Hord. Music: Fanfare Announcer: Today the MOB salutes Texas A&M and the Aggie band. So to begin, the band will warm up with a little old-fashioned military marching. [in German accent] You will enjoy! Action: Band goosesteps out to old Germanesque march. Announcer: Before we go any further into our halftime festivities, the MOB takes time to pay tribute to Mr. Marvin Zindler. [pause] Yes, you heard correctly β€” the MOB has formed a large chicken thigh, and Marvin Zindler (the most hated man in Lagrange) will twirl to that famous greeting β€œHello, Dolly.” Formation: Chicken leg Music: Hello, Dolly Announcer: The MOB has formed a famous Senior Boot, the greatest thing to happen to Aggieland since the manure spreader. [pause] Aggie freshmen will agree that at the base of every Senior Boot is a big heel. Formation: Boot Music: Get It On Announcer: The MOB now salutes Reveille, the mascot of the Aggies. This is a little dog with a big responsibility. But even Reveille likes to make that pause that refreshes. [pause] So the MOB has formed a fire hydrant and plays β€œOh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?” Formation: Fire hydrant Music: Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone? Announcer: The MOB now salutes the Marching Band from Aggieland by forming their famous marching T. [pause] Watch now as the MOB has it their way. Formation: T Music: Bugle call into Aggie War Hymn, transitioning into Little Wooden Soldier March Announcer: There you have it, fans, the band that never sounds retreat. Thank you and goodbye. Action: Band runs off while trumpets blow β€œRetreat”

  3. I want you all to know that Bijan last night was as fine as a representative of the University of Texas as I’ve ever seen…this coming from someone who has an inherent bias against all things UT. After listening to him talk last night, and listening to others talk about him, I walked away with so much admiration for this young man and a jealousy of UT for having him be one of your student-athletes. From the charity he started while a student at UT, to his faith, to his long term plans and just simple joy for life, I was just so grateful to have that opportunity to learn so much more about him. And his grandfather, who Bijan considers his only real father and calls him dad, is just as impressive and cool. PAC 10 football official while Bijan was growing up, he was just an absolutely incredible mentor and guide for this young man to emulate. Funny story- his mom has kept everything he has ever broken around the house playing football so that if he ever made it to the nfl, he can reimburse her for all the damages. Got the second biggest laugh of the evening. Just wanted to share. What a special person. You all were truly blessed to have him be a part of your university family. I am a big fan. Now I need to go order some of his mustard.

  5. On the Ukrainian not firing in that video but rather keeping the other one supplied... Studies show that your Upham/Blythe characters that are depicted as one offs are incredibly common in battle and have been in every war studied since the US Civil War. He's actually helping out and I won't talk shit without knowing how I'd react in the same situation.

  10. I went to the seminary for my masters and my wife went to the university. We live nearby and are good friends with the pastor who was preaching in chapel that day. We also know the president of the university well. They are all humble and wise individuals. Absolutely not Christian nationalists. It started not really from the sermon, but from a student who got up and described issues he had been dealing with (confession), and then others did the same and the service hasn't ended since. My wife went to the service last week, but I haven't been able to and, frankly, have been a bit skeptical. It's also not really my scene anymore, but everyone I've spoken with who has been said it's just people singing together and quietly praying. Nothing real crazy or charismatic (in the theology of worship sense). I have greatly appreciated how the leaders have shepherded this movement so far. They've turned down every request from big name preachers, news organizations, and worship leaders who, well meaning or not, risked turning it into something other than a genuine movement. However, it's turned into something massive and truly beyond much of their control. They have like 20k people descending on a small college town of a few thousand. So, will there be crazies? Yes, just like with any gathering this large. They don't even have enough chapels or sanctuaries in the entire town, so people are just worshipping in the green spaces at the university. We'll see what comes of it. I imagine there will be good and bad, but the bad will be more public and the good will be more in the everyday changes people make in their hearts, minds, and actions. I can just tell you that the way this started and the way the leaders have tried to keep it centered on something real and genuine is the most encouraging part. I know they're basically saying they're going to wrap up the actual shutting down of the normal university schedule after next week, so that'll be another significant shift.

Between the non existent response to the dark traffic signals and the lack of a coherent response to this group shutting down a major intersection, APD is showing that even with record funding they refuse to do simple police work like traffic control. Not exactly making the case for a better contract when they don’t even meet simple metrics like this under their current one.

  15. More context for this video that was posted a few days ago. I also wonder if it was the same situation as that other drone video (also below) where the Russian vehicle was hit from the Ukrainian trench just a few dozen yards away. Could be different, but this is impressive regardless. It seems that the other guy was in shock and was only able to help keep him supplied.

I'm sure we can all brag until we're in blue in the face about working as kids this young back in our day. But I'm not sure where the fuck some of y'all grew up but there is no mom 'n pop slaughterhouse passed down from generation to generation. This is slave labor and child exploitation.

  27. Sad to hear, but he is a great man who lived a great long life. When he was running for President in 1975/1976 and I was only 5 or 6 years old my parents took me to a small rally at the Diplomat hotel in FL and I shook his hand while he was leaving. No idea why but I still remember that moment all these years later, but I can still picture him coming up to me and me reaching out my hand. RIP

Not talking fun enthusiasts that like to the range or hunt, I’m talking about the ones they plaster their cars and houses with gun and 2A shit. We get it. But in general, once someone’s hobby:passion becomes what their personalities revolves around, be it cars, boats, sports team…it all becomes cringy as fuck.

Further, China, is now buying oil at near 1/3 of what they were paying a year ago. That's two pretty large wins for them, and again, its cost them really nothing. As to the point of Xi not demonstrating brains, that's a pretty big leap. This is a guy who grew up in poverty after his father was "resettled" during the cultural purge, who is an educated chemical engineer who has managed to rise to premiership of the largest population on earth. I think he's done pretty well for himself, for not being a smart guy. Maybe it was an accident that he got there.

  36. People who try to get upset about baseball recruiting are funny. So let me get this straight, he can’t recruit because of how this years team looks but we should just ignore how the previous 2 years the team was literally 90% home grown talent that he recruited? I follow baseball recruiting pretty closely so to see you come here talking out of your ass about it pisses me off. We just signed a top 10 class this year even if we lose a guy or two to the draft, have a borderline top 10 class in 2024 despite having fewer commits than anyone in the top 10 and the #1 class in 2025 with 8 top 100 commits. In our worst season under Pierce (2019) we went 4-2 against SEC teams so feel free to shove that opinion up your ass. ”This guy will never win a nc”. Really going out on a limb there considering 98% of coaches never do and 95% of coaches never sniff the college World Series once, yet alone 3 times in 5 years.
