  5. Just got back to Dallas from Lexington. What a trip. We pulled up around 8:30/9 Fri night and were first on the scene. We went to the bar around the corner until they closed at midnight and came back to the bus to find to little groups in front of us. No big deal. Put our camp chairs down and got to know our neighbors. I was still up when Tootsie arrived on the scene around 5 AM. I was a bit of a mess and it was fucking cold so Tootsie “suggested” I go lie down for a couple of hours! Haha. Woke up around 7 and we made our way back to the line. They started serving food around 7:25. I ordered enough for my dad and two of his friends who drove up from SA and then enough to have healthy leftovers. $253 of food to be precise.

  17. In the early 70s, we were pushing a national ethos of “the great American melting pot” - I mean, it was literally one of the Schoolhouse Rock bits. That SHOULD be our national ethos. For fuck’s sake, it’s even on our coinage (e pluribus unum). Even though we were far from perfect, and still had much work to do, our national multi-racial/ethnic identity was moving in the right direction. It sure as shit isn’t anymore. Not until recent years have I ever had anyone question whether I was TRULY a loyal American because of my last name (my family has most likely been here longer than theirs, but whatever). Second issue: the “demonization of white people” when discussing historical actions/injustices. No, it is not demonization of white people qua white people BUT, intellectually lazy people who really don’t want to take ANY ownership of where we are like to say it is. Because it IS distinct from telling a story of one bad thing one white person did. It’s not. Take Tulsa as an example. Tulsa was not am example of “some renegade bad people, who just happened to be white, did some bad stuff to people who just happened to be black.” Nope. 1. Functionally the entirety of Tulsa society took part in the violence. 2. That included the apparatus of the government and law enforcement, which is literally the embodiment of society as a whole. 3. The action was against ALL blacks people in Greenwood, BECAUSE THEY WERE BLACK. “A bad guy” didn’t attack Greenwood. White Tulsa - functionally ALL of White Tulsa - did. Look at the photos of lynchings. It’s not a picture of the town’s there embarrassing retrograde racists smiling next to the dead body. It’s huge swaths of the town. Look at the mob savaging black students at Little Rock High. Look at the crowd harassing black students at the lunch counter. These were not isolated bad actors. They were a system and society as a whole attacking black people, perpetuating racism, etc. Jim Crow laws weren’t passed by one bad guy; they were passed with broad local support. Were there white people who did right? Of course. Off the top of my head, two of the most revered pieces of American literature are about white people who did right by black people (To Kill a Mockingbird and Huck Finn). Interestingly, they have historically been books that white America has wanted to ban. Or on a personal note, I’ve told the story of the Koy family (Longhorn legends). My great uncle was one of the first Hispanic lettermen in the SWC, nearly 100 years ago now (sheesh). He told stories of being harassed for his ethnicity by opposing fans, merchants, etc. But he also spoke reverently about Ernie Koy Sr, a white guy from Bellville, who had his back. He proudly spoke of the time they had to keep Ernie from going up into the stands to whoop the ass of a fan who’d been spewing racist bullshit all game. So, yeah…be an Ernie Koy (also, no Koy will ever pay for his drinks while I’m in the room - that family is what honor and decency look like). TLDR; no, not all individual white people were racist. But white society as a whole sure as shit was, and it wasn’t a quirk, it was a core function (Jim Crow). We need to stop being pussies and running away from that truth. It doesn’t mean that you and I are racist, but it DOES mean that we inherited racist institutions. If we want credit for doing the right thing, then maybe…we should do it.

  20. Dude you really have no idea what you are talking about. All district high school offensive lineman checking in here, who grew up racing bmx and dirtbikes, who has also been getting his cock sucked by other guys since middle school, and sucking his fair share along the way. As a little kid (6-8), I did have a lot of stuffed animals, but we kept them to act as cushions because I slept on the top bunk, and we'd put them all on the floor and jump off the top while we were trying to be Superfly Snuka or one of the Von Erich's. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of these topics because you are basing this on stereotypes you've been fed your whole life. I get that you may not have much exposure to real live LGBT+ people, but you need to listen when people tell you that your stereotypes are woefully incorrect a large majority of the time.

  26. This. I will never understand the “why would Coach XYZ leave to come to Texas?” posts. Unless it’s a Self or Saban type. Moody Center and brand new practice facility (and facilities in general) $$$ (salary and assistant pool money) Natural recruiting base (don’t tell me coaches wouldn’t love to have DFW and Houston in their backyard to recruit from) Great boss NIL machine FFS, if you can win a couple NCCA game in a 6 year period and not choke your fiancée/girlfriend, we’ll probably keep you for a decade and a half

  28. So NATO countries are not willing to make Ukraine a NATO country and sign something that immediately puts them and all of NATO at war with Russia? Shocking! … and if it is something the current UK government will sign then based on repeated statements backed up by actions they are not trying to limit Ukraine in their fight against Russia. Seems like made up headlines and Russian media trying to stir the pot.

  30. Ok so briefly. Sometime around circa 1977 my dad decides, while looking out at the boats in Channel Islands Harbor, “we’re going to sail around the world.” Mind you he was from Minnesota and we had never sailed in our lives. Within a year we had an Ericson 29 and we learned. All the time. For the next 5 years we sailed all the time. Around ‘80 we purchased a Force 50. June ‘82 we left (after 4 months in Mexico and back) for the South Pacific, having scaled back the ambition and realizing 15 months was not enough time to sail around the world unless you wanted to be on the move most of the time. Ended up only doing French Polynesia. The boat in Bora Bora (hired a photographer but there wasn’t a breath of wind), windsurfing in Maupiti, going surfing with my dad and brother o Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands, our Rott Asta standing guard in the Tuamotus (I think Manihi), aftermath of a tropical cyclone (Veena I think) in Tahiti. We were fine but I spent a week helping people get their boats off the reef. I’ll look for more.

  33. I got this car on TX/OU weekend after it had been hibernating for about 10 years. I've never really worked on a car, but so far I've changed the fuel pump, fuel tank, cleaned out the lines, and installed a new carb. I also changed the oil, plugs, and wires. I finally got it running but I really need to tune the carb. I might pay to do that. It's been frustrating trying to do that. Any good shops in Dallas that are decently priced?

My wife's uncle is moving and he practically gave it to us. The inside is cherry though. It's going to be nice once we get her up and running. I have boating experience on Travis but not for anything this size. I'll be getting lessons for sure.

  36. It’s baseball. That narrative won’t change until he wins titles, it doesn’t matter how many College Workd Series he makes. Frankly I saw a similar - if subdued - narrative regarding Elliott and volleyball before this past season. I don’t believe Texas is alone in this dynamic. If a program is used to a certain level of success, but it can’t seem to get over the hump for a certain amount of time, disgruntled voices can emerge. The truth is Pierce has a huge amount of support. I don’t believe the naysayers are some kind of massive chorus or anything yet. Loop 1604 is certainly no gauge of anything. No offense Loop 1604. I just find your posts are often idiotic.
