  5. I think from my perspective, the challenge we laypersons have is that we see the weakness of our judicial system being exploited time and again and now blatant corruption, absurd decisions, and the supreme court acting like an extremist political group, not a serious group of venerated legal scholars who are interested in providing the best decisions based on their abilities who take ownership and responsibility for their projects. That they get to choose their own cases to take (not by some lottery, but they pick and choose) gives them incredible power to influence and corrupt the judiciary system. That our system allows for the highest court to pass the buck on fact-finding and essentially shrug shoulders and say "facts schmacts" belies a complete failure in the eyes of this layperson. Imagine if other industries acted like this, our physicians, our scientists, our bridge-building engineers. ("Sorry, I told them to give me good building materials but they sent me crap, so I just built it with crap, not my fault it fell down). I think my biggest disappointment is how fucking jaded these assholes are. They do not respect the position they are in, they don't give a shit about the country or those they impact, and they pick and choose cases based on how they want the outcome not about what is good for the country. They are just horrible people and the bribes, thin-skinned reactions to criticism, the demand that they are not allowed to be protested like any other government official, selective review, and contempt they hold for the people indicates to me they are no better or skilled than an average surly lawyer.

  11. Well, while that makes some sense, the legal right to massive amounts of oil and natural gas off Crimea takes this off the table if Ukraine wants a way to pay for the destruction caused by the war. And they need those oil and gas resources to try to achieve energy independence and not be as susceptible to Russia or others’ manipulation of supplies. In my opinion the value to Russia in keeping Crimea is a giant reward for the 2014 & 2022 invasions of Ukraine - a sovereign nation. I think for the long-term it is far more important that Russia be taught that it cannot profit from invading other countries in the 21st-century. If it gets to keep Crimea, it won’t have learned that lesson.

  17. The stolen valor of aggy is what actually makes me angry. All the other stuff is just annoying. But discounting the sacrifice of young men from literally every other university and college in the country is disgusting. Claiming MOH of a guy that transferred away from your school, lettered in football and graduated from a rival, is disgusting. Claiming to be a military academy is disgusting. And Navy and Army were winning at football throughout the 40s and 50s as single-gender institutions, while simultaneously actually winning world wars. STFU aggy.

  21. Okay, this might *officially* be one of the more disturbing things I've seen about the Russians. It started with this meme on a pro-Ukraine account (@KvotheTheArcane): Now, I wasn't really sure what I was looking at, so I went into the comments, and others had the same question. It was explained that the Russian Army is now having to "palletize" their war dead, which is what you see wrapped in plastic. Don't mind the smears. The above is the more viewer-friendly version of what you'd see. In the below [SPOILERED NSFL], a separate account was mentioned that has photos showing bodies before they've been shrinkwrapped.
