I think Gerry is just being salty because of the changing recruiting landscape in Texas, now that everything runs through Lubbock.62 points

Based on how they played Miami, I'd say most of their commits in the last few cycles have been soft commits46 points

I used to worry about this when pointing out that Billy Liucci is the embodiment of every reason they'll never be a championship program. That their entire fanbase is at fault because they'd rather pay that assclown a bunch of money to tell them how special and unique they are than to pay money to someone who will actually hold the program accountable. But then I realized that I was worried about Texas A&M listening to and implementing advice received from Longhorns. Hahaha. No, we're free to continue pointing out how obvious their institutional problems are and they'll never do jack shit about it. Hell, the only ones who are open-minded enough to understand end up posting on Longhorn boards. The leading figure on the A&M internet is a guy who has been telling them leading up to every season, without fail, for over two decades that: Their players are more talented than Texas's players. Their players are more skilled than Texas's players. Their coaches are better gameday coaches than Texas's coaches. Their coaches are better recruiters than Texas's coaches. Their recruits are better prospects than Texas's recruits. For over two decades he has said every single year that everything about their program is better than Texas, and yet they've accomplished jack shit compared to Texas. Not just during our great run in the 2000s, but they haven't even accomplished more than us since they joined the SEC. They won a Cotton Bowl. They beat Alabama. That's it. They haven't even accomplished more than Texas has during one of the dark eras of our program. But if you point out that he's been selling them a load of bullshit you're hated for being a 2%er then banned. Common sense says Liucci is either lying to them on purpose to make money off of them or he's the worst fucking football analyst of all time. Either way why in the hell are you giving him your money? But they don't want to hear that because it might mean they're not as special as their moms told them they are. So he will continue to rake it in.28 points

As fans of a team that won a couple of titles relatively recently, Clemson fans would presumably know what high level football looks like. On the Clemson 247 board, they had a thread on the Texas-Alabama game. Here are a few comments from that thread. When is the last time we heard comments such as these, about Texas? 2005?27 points

Per Gerry (IT): 4 star safety out of Judson (A&M commit) Myles Davis has scheduled a visit to Texas for the Texas Tech game. Lots of time still left in this recruitment. https://247sports.com/player/myles-davis-46136111/24 points

From Stewart Mandel's mailbag on The Athletic website: Texas A&M keeps punishing me every time I choose them to win in my fantasy football contest. Are there any other top teams that I should avoid taking to win? — Timothy C. What is your criteria for “top teams,” and why was A&M ever in it?15 points

Some of y’all are trying to tell them what they are doing wrong then give them help on how to fix it. What agricultural &mechanical did in the past, is currently doing, and will do in the future is fine. Keep being you aggy! Don’t listen to the haters! 😎15 points

Gerry always throws jabs at Micah Hudson. He put in an RPM for 99% months ago that basically ruined the "shock" he was hoping to create. This is coming from a guy that rarely if ever ruins a kids moment and is quite intelligent and careful about the info he spills. It makes me think that Hudson has probably done somethings to piss off the $9.95ers and Texas or he wouldn't be constantly throwing jabs and digs Hudson's way. Just an observation on my part.15 points

Not an amazing story but figured some people on this thread might appreciate. I went to LA last weekend to hang with @henrygandorf and we watched the game at a bar where Texas Exes go. Game started at 4pm PST, we decided to get there around noon to eat lunch and get a good table for rest of our group that would join later. The restaurant/bar was pretty much empty when we arrived. There was a dude in a Bama shirt sitting by himself at the bar. HG and I sit at a table, and the Bama guy comes over to talk. Nice kid, knows football, not a trash talker at all. Grew up in Birmingham and lifelong Tide fan. Probably shot the shit with him for a good 2 hours. Asked him what he does for a living...says he's an actor/producter/writer and just moved to LA about a year ago. That's the story you always hear in LA, so didn't think much of it. But later he mentioned that he was on an episode of The Righteous Gemstones. That perked my ears, I took a closer look at him, and was like holy shit! He played young Eli (aka The Maniac Kid) in Season 2 premiere that started with a long flashback. He was surrounded by Texas fans all night and handled it well when we pulled away for the W. After the game was over he came by our table again and asked for our numbers so we could text about Texas and Bama as the year goes on.13 points

There are a few other expense factors that need to be accounted for in some capacity. 1) The assistants all have buyouts. 2) Buying out and hiring assistants from elsewhere requires money as well. 3) They have a payroll to meet with the roster. 4) They'll have a payroll to meet if they want to win in the portal. 5) They have a payroll to meet with their recruiting class. That all adds up to another 8 digits. I know the roster expense is over $4M, so if they want to retain a bunch of those guys, they'll need that. If new coach is to win in the portal, he's going to need $2M+ given expected attrition. They've got at least mid-6 figures committed to this current recruiting class. Petrino's buyout alone is likely easily into the 7 figures since he was a moneywhip hire in the first place. ATM is going to need $40M minimum from its donor base to cover the full freight of all of the moving parts for firing Fisher if it happens after 2023. If they don't, next year's roster will look like something akin to the SMU post-death penalty rebuild. On top of all of this, who the hell is going to want to come to that school at this point? It looks freaking cursed. They'd need someone trying to pull a Fisher and get out of a big job before the big job pushes them out violently, or they'd need to take a bet on an up and comer. So they won't be able to argue about a sure thing with the BMDs. Part of the support in getting Fisher and in funding the 2022 class was that the BMDs believed that the guy was a sure thing for a national title.13 points

It was orgasmic. When we needed 3 first downs to run out the game, Brooks bulldozed his way for 2 of them and then we absolutely fooled Alabama into giving us the game ending one. Been a long fucking time that we got the first down(s) we needed to seal a game. No turtling, just straight up mauled them for 5 minutes and then took a couple knees.13 points

Ana is uniformly, comprehensively 100% skeptical of every single thing he reads in the media… except rightwing propaganda and absurd conspiracy fan fiction, which he accepts without hesitation or even momentary examination. The only thing that separates him from the typical “Do your own research!” rube is generally proper grammar and the occasional SAT word.13 points

We deservedly shit on Russia a lot here, but it's important to give credit to them when the occasion calls for it. The Russian Navy has a long and distinguished career of failure, but even considering that, losing so many boats to a country with no navy is a monumental accomplishment. Achievements like this are special and should be celebrated. Maybe aggy can loan them a space in the Hall Of Champions* to put up a plaque. That's the second or third time they've hit Romania in a short amount of time. Clearly, our deterrence is not working and needs to be significantly expanded. At a minimum, we should set up an air defense bubble over Western Ukraine and allow the Ukrainians to move their equipment further east to protect citizens and Ukrainian troops.12 points

In fairness, I guess there is a third option: Musk told Issacson an embellished or untrue story thinking it would make him look good. And then when it blew up he told a second untrue account to walk it back. This is entirely in keeping with his demonstrated character. What is hilarious to me is how all the sophisticated, impervious to info ops independent thinkers are falling for this transparent PR spin. Billionaire: “I didn’t really do the bad thing! My PR flack who said I did just didn’t understand me correctly. I really did the good thing.” PR Flack: “My billionaire patron is right. I said the wrong thing. What the billionaire says now is correct, he did the good thing. My bad.” Independent thinkers: “The media has it out for the billionaire.”12 points

Liucci: Jimbo Fisher's extension will be another 'bargain' for Texas A&M By Billy Liucci September 1, 2021 Key notes from Billy Liucci interview You're going to see this contract be 10 years, starting from now, with an average right around $9 million per year. You're starting the existing deal over with a significant raise to make him the second-highest paid coach in the SEC behind Nick Saban and one of the highest-paid in college football. This is a great deal. We're going to look at it again as a great bargain. We've been talking about it for the last three years and how wrong people were the first time. Now they're doing it again. People don't seem to understand the no-buyout thing, and that makes me laugh. The buyout is $9 million a year, $90 million guaranteed. Nick Saban doesn't look like he's going to retire anytime soon, but say Alabama comes after Jimbo Fisher in three years when Saban is done. That's the only school that could take Fisher with the money that Texas A&M is paying. If Alabama does that, it means the next three years have been really good in Aggieland. A buyout does nothing. When was the last time a school didn't hire a coach they wanted because of a buyout? Do you think a one-year buyout, another $9 million, would keep A&M from going to get a coach? The buyout is $90 million. It also keeps the coach here. It's like the SEC not having a grant of rights. The SEC basically says, "You want to leave? Go." I don't think there is any danger of Fisher leaving. The danger is losing money. If it doesn't work, you lose money. Everyone is making a big deal about it, but it's like me and Olin living in the same neighborhood. If I saw him driving a Maserati, that's Olin's business. Not mine. The way the media is acting would be like me walking around the neighborhood calling Olin an idiot for spending that money on a car. Who's the idiot in that scenario? A&M is three years into this, and they have a pretty good idea of what they're investing in. People are saying it's only one good year, but it's not. It's one great year and three years of progress. Jimbo's first year was a nice, strong season. They finished ranked and won a bowl game, playing great football at the end of the year. His third year was a top-five finish, an Orange Bowl championship and a legitimate argument to be in the playoff. In 12 years as a coach, Fisher has a national title, a playoff berth and another top-five finish. He probably has five top-ten finishes in 12 years to go along with that. At what point do you look at that resume and say that Fisher is an elite head coach in this game? He is. It's not debatable. Texas A&M has a coach that is among the very best, the top five, in this game. If you look at what Fisher is doing in recruiting and don't feel extremely confident in your investment, I don't know what to tell you.Regarding the timing, coaches don't like negotiating during the season. What if Texas A&M reached the playoff this year and LSU spiraled? I think Texas A&M did the right thing. We got our guy, and he's locked up for as long as he wants to coach. This guy won a national title. He won 27 of 28 games with Jameis Winston in 2013 and 2014. People want to say it was all Winston, but you can't take away a guy's best player. If you take away Vince Young, what did Mack Brown do? Take away Joe Burrow, Ed O doesn't win a championship. I know what Dan Mullen has done, and I know what Jim Harbaugh has done. What in the hell have they done that Jimbo hasn't done? Mullen won a New Year's Six game, and Florida caught some criticism for that extension. The blowback shows how big the spotlight is on Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher. For the people that say A&M isn't relevant, you're hearing most of that from Texas, Oklahoma and some from LSU. They're whining fake tough guys. If you say a negative thing about Oklahoma, the Sooners go insane. Somebody asked me if I'd rather have Lincoln Riley or Jimbo at Texas A&M, at the answer is Jimbo. Riley is a good coach, but he coaches in a league where he has five times the talent as anybody he plays. They're both good coaches, but it's apples to oranges. Jimbo Fisher is a great fit at Texas A&M. Texas might be the most delusional fanbase in American sports. They're loud on Twitter. They get these talking points, and no matter how bad their team is or how good things are going in College Station, they cannot come off their talking points. How much money did they pay to fire Herman and hire Steve Sarkisian? We know what Sark has done. You want to boil it down to Fisher not winning a title in three years? You spent $75 million to hire Sarkisian. LSU is just scared. They had that great year and smoked the Aggies in 2019, but they've lost two of three to Texas A&M. Jimbo Fisher is the guy they've tried to hire twice. Ed Orgeron is a trainwreck of a coach, and they know it. They were hoping they could possibly hire Fisher at some point, and the Aggies just put up a wall around College Station. A day ago, what was the big cry coming out of Austin, Baton Rouge and Norman? That Fisher would be in Baton Rouge in a year. That was the battle cry from those three fanbases, and they wouldn't shut up about it. Today, 10 years and $90 million later, A&M is stupid for paying it? It's a constantly moving target.12 points
