The key person to watch here is Greg Sankey. Tennessee had a well-coordinated and planned counteroffensive ready to go once this story broke. You don’t just generate a 20 page federal anti-trust suit on ChatGPT in less than 24 hours, much less with an entirely different state joining in on it. This suggests to me that the SEC is ultimately going to be behind them, and there is message board chatter from posters who have connections that Plowman has Sankey’s backing in this effort.

The reports are the NCAA has up to 20 similar NIL-related investigations against other schools in the works, which looks like a rear-guard, last ditch attempt to assert control that has been slipping away from them the last few years. At some point, Greg Sankey may sit down with Charlie Baker and say:

We have been waiting on this since the summer and Vol Nation and Vol Twitter are ready.

This has kicked my thinking into overdrive, dunno why.

But what could the NCAA really do if a major program just ignored them and told them to fuck off in light of any type of "punishment" they tried to levy?

For example, scholarship reduction. The program either flat out ignores it, or pulls some type of "workaround." Bowl ban? Playoff games aren't bowls, other than those associated in name only.

What can they really do? It's not like they have judicial powers, and lawsuits would be ugly as well as a bad can of worms to open. I'm not sure the NCAA would want a savvy law team putting them into discovery.

Would a conference care at this point? Would it actually light the fuse to blow it all up?

I'm not sure we really know at this point, but I'll grab the popcorn when it happens.

With NIL who gives a fuck about scholarships.

Tennessee Chancellor agrees.     Link 2 is article about States of Tenn and Va filing a lawsuit vs the NCAA.

“The leaders of intercollegiate athletics owe it to student-athletes and their families to establish clear rules and to act in their best interest," she said. "Instead, two and a half years of vague and contradictory NCAA memos, emails and ‘guidance’ about name, image and likeness (NIL) has created extraordinary chaos that student-athletes and institutions are struggling to navigate. In short, the NCAA is failing.”

“Regrettably, in this chaotic environment, the NCAA enforcement staff is trying to retroactively apply unclear guidance to punish and make an example of our institution and others,” Plowman said in the email.

  4. I think something that can put some of y’all at ease is for all of the problems our military has it appears Russia, China and just about everyone else that hates us has more fucked up problems and they are getting worse. Russia is rapidly shrinking it’s population.

I really hope the world gets back to some time of normal soon but I doubt it.

    some excerpts

“Several soldiers and marines spoke to journalists out of concern about the high casualties and what they said were overly optimistic accounts from officials about the progress of the offensive.”

“Soldiers and marines who have taken part in the river crossings described the offensive as brutalizing and futile, as waves of Ukrainian troops have been struck down on the river banks or in the water, even before they reach the other side.

Conditions are so difficult, a half-dozen men involved in the fighting said in interviews, that in most places, there is nowhere to dig in. The first approaches tend to be marshy islands threaded with rivulets or meadows that have become a quagmire of mud and bomb craters filled with water.”

“In the case of the Dnipro, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and other officials have suggested recently that the marines have gained a foothold on the eastern bank. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a statement last month claiming they had established several strongholds.

But marines and soldiers who have been there say these accounts overstate the case.

“There are no positions. There is no such thing as an observation post or position,” said Oleksiy. “It is impossible to gain a foothold there. It’s impossible to move equipment there.”

“It’s not even a fight for survival,” he added. “It’s a suicide mission.”

“Oleksiy said the Ukrainian commanders’ poor preparation and logistics had decimated his battalion. Wounded men were being left behind because of a lack of boats, he said, and the brutal conditions were degrading morale and soldiers’ support for each other.

“People who end up there are not prepared psychologically,” he said. “They don’t even understand where they are going. They are not told by the command that sends them there.”

Oleksiy agreed to let The Times publish his account out of frustration at the losses. “I did not see anything like this in Bakhmut or Soledar,” he said, referring to two of the most intense battles on the eastern front. “It’s so wasteful.”

    Ukraine.

But I’m a realist about how this is going and how it was always going to go if we (US/NATO) didn’t get directly involved. Russia was always going to be willing to go farther than we would to win this.  We’ve wasted a lot of resources, taking the long way, to get to a predictable outcome. This board is emotionally invested in a lost cause.

I don’t completely agree with that. Russia will be in an even more serious population decline by the end of this along with most countries not wanting anything to do with them.

I am 6 IPA’s deep and have an 18 mile trail race tomorrow where I go down Lookout Mountain Ga and the last 3 miles are almost straight back up. I can possibly win my age group even though my first ever trail run was last week. Fuck it, we’ll do it live!!!  Weather will be a balmy 33 at the start.

Things I learned…. It was a 19.3 mile race his year for reasons no one will ever understand. There was 5500 in elevation climbing today. I am not a trail runner.
