  1. The 70.3 is less than 6 weeks away and it's amazing how much more prepared I am this year compared to last. I am one of those people that have to do something first and learn the hard way for the next time. I've done several 50 mile rides this time and ran after and have been able to hold a 7:00 mile after the bike ride so I feel like a sub 5:30 is very possible this year. Saturday, I have a 15k race that is very hilly but should be able to hold a 6:42 pace the whole time and then Sunday will do a 60 mile ride and run 4 miles after. I've improved on swimming but still hate it. Thank God for a wetsuit legal race.

The important thing is that his idiot followers have to defend him paying off a porn star, and they have to do it publicly while trying to deny that he had an affair with her.  Or paid her for sex.

    LBJ would be proud.

They’ve already moved on to how unfair this is. When he made fun of John McCain and didn’t catch any shit for it I knew there isn’t anything he can do that they won’t justify. I am sure he will grift the hell out of them with this.

That is a hail marry for a defense team. You either get a really reduced verdict... or you piss the jury off and get absolutely crushed. I don't think you dust this one off in unless you have nothing else for a defense.

and then you piss off the public when they read this online.

My attitude on all of this shit is, "If i really need it, they'll send it again," whether it is a solicitation or otherwise.  Our organization sends out deliberate phishing attempts and I hear co-workers saying they got busted.  Really?

If it doesn't look right from an absolutely established entity, hit the eject button.  I know there are a shit ton of tech-savvy folks in here, but here's some basic indicators or scams:

    1. name of sender will be slightly misspelled, such as appple.com

    2. contains link for you to access

    3. sense of urgency is conveyed.  You must act now!!!

    4. doesn't refer to you by name, but rather 'valued customer' or some shit like that

    5.  Doesn't list a phone number or other legit way to contact

Basically if it doesn't look 100% right, delete that sucker.

Yep. My work got mad when I didn’t respond to something they sent 3 times. I told them if it’s important enough then send it 4 times. I wish they would deactivate my fucking email. All I get are phishing emails from them trying to get me to click on a link which will result in more online training.

I can see where you're coming from.

That said, my wife is *in* autonomous tech and EV. She sits on the board of and advises a few startups and the M-City initiative at the University of Michigan (pretty cool, if you want to click-through: https://mcity.umich.edu/). I am her test audience before she goes and speaks at conferences -- this includes South By a few years ago, shout out to Austin -- or publishes papers or whatever, so I have that spousal "you have to know about this shit because your wife is tits deep in it" thing going on.

In any case, the consensus in the industry is that there were two paths that companies took a few years ago.

Tesla's path was, more or less, a bet on cameras. This was cheap and quick to deploy, and allowed them to jump out to a head start. Consider that you can get a 1080p backup cam for like $20 on Amazon; imagine buying at scale. Anyway, consistent with Elon's patterns, he marketed the hell out of this, including the "vision" you mentioned above. However, it appears to be bearing out that a system founded upon cameras is easy to quickly build up to Level 2 or 2+, but then you hit a wall. This is why Tesla is no longer seriously advancing and is flailing to put together a new hardware stack in hopes that it can move the ball forward. It is unlikely that Tesla will ever reach Level 4 or 5 with its current approach and the consensus is that Tesla is too committed/down the path of to its current approach to pivot and recreate the software side for a more fulsome system.

The majority of the industry uses some combination of cameras, radar, lidar, etc. At first, many companies were well behind Tesla because of some combination of cost (prohibitive to deploy enough sensitive) and the software side (integrating the various sensor systems. Now, the cost of the hardware is plummeting (example: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-25/lidar-sensor-price-plunge-leads-to-orders-from-gm-volkswagen). Also, the physical size of a lot of these systems is shrinking and they're becoming easier to integrate. I wish I had my wife's slide deck showing the change, with the pic of the lidar from a few years back that looks like an old school police siren on top of the car to the little sensors that are coming online now. Anyway, between decreasing hardware costs and increasing hardware availability for the various sensor systems, and realizing the gains from all the investment that has gone into integrating multiple systems for higher-level automation, other players are now leap-frogging Tesla. This is why you see that MB just got their Level 3 approved and GM's Level 3 successor to Super Cruise is coming soon, why Ford's Blue Cruise is considered a leader now, etc.

Trying to think of a good analogy, but maybe it's like a sprinter racing a distance runner over a half-marathon. Tesla jumped out to a big lead but, with its camera-based approach, is not equipped for the long run. Meanwhile, the majority of the industry has been plugging along, saw Tesla jump out to a big lead the first 100 or 200 meters, but is now passing it.

This is why I love this website. Someone on here has a connection to anything and everything.

Been back on the running over the last week after taking about a week off after the Houston Marathon.  I did a 6 mile run about 5 days after the marathon then a casual 10 miler a few days later.  It felt good.  It's nice being back in the gym though.  My 8 mile runs before work are hitting me just right.  Wake up at 5, out the door by 5:30, back home by 6:45 and out the door with the kiddo at 7:30.  I've got a 15k the first weekend of March then a half marathon the last weekend of March.

I absolutely love it when I can cram a run in the morning before the day begins. There is something peaceful about it. We always meet my father in law for breakfast on Saturday morning at 7:20 am so I have to be up at 5 and running by 5:30 if I am going to do 10 miles.

  7. Ran 9 yesterday and then ran 11 today in 28 degree weather and it wasn’t that bad. I will ride Peloton tomorrow for 2 hours and then maybe run3 miles if it isn’t raining. I am starting to have doubts about doing the full Ironman in September but I think when it warms up in March and I can get on the bike outside that will change. I’ve been doing 90 minute spin classes at 5am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it’s just getting annoying waking up at 4 am. One thing that will help for the 70.3 in May is there is a group of 6 of us doing it and 4 are young dudes who are good runners and help push me. We meet at 6:15 am Monday Wednesday and Friday and run. Sometimes pace is sub 7 sometimes pace is 8. It will be fun training with them on the bike and starting together on race day. I look forward to watching them bonk on the run.

i think it's important to note that my poist wasn't directed as a rebuttal to yours. i get what you are saying. i'm sorry if it seemed like i was coming at you - that was not my intention.

i agree with you 100%, and i hope there are no riots, just peaceful marches and candlelight vigils.

i really hope we can get to a point where cops are only accidentally killing people rather than BEATING THEM TO DEATH.

Lol at first I was like what the hell man. It’s all good.
